Lyrics:
How do you cool your lips, after a summer's kiss?
How do you rid the sweat, after the body bliss?
How do you turn your eyes, from the romantic glare?
How do you block the sound of a voice
You'd know anywhere?
Oh, I really should've known
By the time you drove me home
By the vagueness in your eyes, your casual goodbyes
By the chill in your embrace
The expression on your face that told me
Maybe you might have some advice to give
On how to be insensitive
Insensitive
Insensitive
How do you numb your skin, after the warmest touch?
How do you slow your blood, after the body rush?
How do you free your soul, after you've found a friend?
How do you teach your heart it's a crime to fall in love again?
Oh, you probably won't remember me
It's probably ancient history
I'm one of the chosen few
Who went ahead and fell for you
I'm out of vogue, I'm out of touch
I fell too fast, I feel too much
I thought that you might have some advice to give
On how to be insensitive
Oh, I really should've known
By the time you drove me home
By the vagueness in your eyes, your casual goodbyes
By the chill in your embrace
The expression on your face that told me
Maybe you might have some advice to give
On how to be insensitive

Hahaha @ Karine Audet. I mean, it’s a nice song, but as far as Canadian “artiste” women go, Alanis Morissette pretty much is top the list for me. Tori Amos is up there too, it’s a tie basically. Lol. Stiff competition…I can’t help but compare Alanis to a lot of other singer songwriters, in what ways? Oh, just lyrically, melodically, rhythmically, vocally, instrumentally, emotionally…mentally. I know she’s intense. Jann Arden is reflective, but her music and lyrics remain decidedly… restrained? Lame? Jk, that’s fine, there’s something for everyone, I guess.

When I was in grade 5, a boy asked me to go to a school dance with him, I said no. He asked me again in grade 6 and in grade 7, I said no both times. For whatever reason, I started to like him back. A snowball dance was coming up and so I worked up the nerve to ask him. He said no!! One evening we were skating at the rink - we pushed over a hockey net and he was pushing it around on the ice as I laid on the netting. He would pick up speed and then jump on the netting beside me while the net slid across the rink. At some point he says to me "ask me again". We did end up going to the dance together and shared our first kiss to this song. We dated for the rest of grade 7 and then again for two years after high school. We're still friends and this is still a sweet memory for both of us.

I’m a total metalhead, but I’ve got a big Apple playlist of my favorite female singers from the ‘90s when I was in college: Lisa Loeb, Sheryl Crow, Jann Arden, Meredith Brooks, Shawn Colvin, Natalie Merchant, Garbage…the list goes on for a lot of songs and they’re all timeless. I miss those days and that music a lot. My kid made fun of me when I first built it, then he realized the talent and sound.

The lyrics hit hard in this, funny how you learn when your about to get dumped by the exact things she describes in this song. "I should've know by the time you drove me home, by the vagueness in your eyes" this cuts so deep. You just know they are gonna end it and this line sums it up so perfectly! "I fell too fast, I feel too much" soo true. Learnt I need to not fall in love at first sight and just harden up and stop being a fool.

It sounds cliche, but hearing this song brings back so many memories. The times when life was much simpler and society wasn't brainwashed by technology and the media. Where the hell did the past 20 years go? It's crazy. The times where you could go places and not worry about anything? Thank you 90s. You'll never be forgotten. RIP. Love you.

+markesqable In my humble opinion, a big part of life died at the turn of the century. I can't explain it but after the year 2000, everything went wrong. Except for some of the carry over from the 90's and even the 80's, everything has gone down hill. It is almost like every year, things keep getting worse. Maybe it is just me. Maybe I think too much and always look for a deeper meaning.

+markesqable - I remember worrying about a lot of things in the 1990s (such as, I sure hope that gas station has a phone booth that has a working phone). And there's always been brainwashing from the media - even before Fox News (which started in 1996 - 2 years after this song). Brainwashing by technology? What exactly is that? Is your smart phone sending you dangerous thoughts? That's not technology's fault, but a reason to seek professional help. I'm glad you didn't have a care in the world back in the 90s, but it was not so simple of a time for everyone else.

I remember watching this video over and over as it was a bonus feature on Bed Of Roses with Christian Slater and Mary Stuart Masterson. I loved it at first listen and her voice and the emotion behind it. Hasn't gotten any less amazing now as a 35 yr old woman from being a 9 almost 10 yr old girl. How do you cool your lips after a summer's kiss? How do you rid the sweat after the body bliss? How do you turn your eyes from the romantic glare? How do you block the sound Of a voice you'd know anywhere? Oh, I really should have known By the time you drove me home By the vagueness in your eyes, your casual goodbyes By the chill in your embrace The expression on your face, told me Maybe, you might have some advice to give On how to be insensitive, insensitive, ooh, insensitive How do you numb your skin after the warmest touch? How do you slow your blood after the body rush? How do you free your soul after you've found a friend? How do you teach your heart It's a crime to fall in love again? Oh, you probably won't remember me It's probably ancient history I'm one of the chosen few Who went ahead and fell for you I'm out of vogue, I'm out of touch I fell too fast I feel too much I thought that you might have some advice to give On how to be insensitive Oh, I really should have known By the time you drove me home By the vagueness in your eyes, your casual goodbyes By the chill in your embrace The expression on your face that told me Maybe, you might have some advice to give On how to be insensitive (how to be) Insensitive (how to be) Insensitive (how to be)
