After 36 years, I still love this song - it brings back such memories. I used to listen to it on my Walkman on my way home from a crappy late-night job at a downtown Toronto hotel during the summer of 1984. At the time, I was very young and very smitten by a another staff-member who clearly had no interest in me. In my own mind, I was the "victim" and the line "You're always there like a ghost in my dreams" rang very true. Nothing ever came of it and I eventually left the job - and the object of my desire went on to enjoy a highly successful international career in the hotel business. I was considerably less successful - and my life hasn't been a particularly happy one.. whoever said it was fair?

@catry7073 жыл бұрын
@@musicus11 That question, dear John, its a small demonstration that some people only know their shopping mall in their city. They did not leave their state only to neighboring states. And that is why they are so ignorant. They think that their little territory is the world, the best and nothing else matters. Arriba John and arriba Canada (I live in NJ)

You are not the only one with such feelings.I in Brasil had many moments of dispair,sadness and some of luck professsionally and emotionally talking and a lot of profound words compound melodies like this rocket my life.Are you happy and graduated?what everybody pursued all the time,all their life. I was 11 then. Let's not romanticise this time period - there was a hell of a lot of utter shit then, just as with every period before and after. But the cream of the early 80's was as good as any era in pop. However, once you get into truly amazing pure musical creativity like the Classical greats (Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Prokofiev, etc, etc) it really gives you context for pop, and you realise just how shallow it is by comparison.

Richard Helliwell me and my girls song at school, she picked it, still a great song and brings back good memes and the crew and girls of school in the 80s, great times, wouldn’t trade today’s crap for that time ever. This song actually turned me around to Culture club as well.

Richard Helliwell I had exactly the same sentiment but later realised how brilliant they were; sound track to my school days, I had the same sentiment towards the likes Duran Duran and Wham too but liked spandau ballet

It's funny how groups make an impact after they have finished or we get older and appreciate the music more. I liked this one originally.....

I was there in the 80's. I bought "Colour By Numbers" when it first hit the store shelves. Enjoyed every track, and I mean every track. The song arrangement, the lyrics, the un-mentioned album hero Helen Tery, and George's voice made this a thoroughly soothing album. But it's amazing how one TV show can add a different facet to something you once thought in the beginning. VH1's "Behind The Music - Culture Club" when George openly admitted that all his songs were about, and to John. And it's like, 'wow, that puts a new spin on things'. Nonetheless, decades later, these songs still resonate a good vibe to all of us who were there during that time. Memories become alive, once again.

as much a i love this song, its my favourite winter/xmas song of all, it never really got recognised as a christmas song, but certainly is in my eyes, its vocals, and its orchestral influences arer fantastic, but im afraid it isnt one of the finest male vocals EVER performed,just saying, too broad a subject matter, his tones are brilliant, the depth is perfect for this song, good day and happy xmas 2019!!

This song actually reminds me of some of MJ's songs (Man In The Mirror, Heal The World, Earth Song, Childhood, The Lost Children). I believe he also could've sung that song (or better yet, a duet with Boy George!)… it's so beautiful but so underrated at the same time (same with the songs mentioned above, or some of them at least) :/
