Improve your forehand with our free pdf guide - www.top-tennis-training.com/free-guide/

OMG. Out of hundreds of Jannik Sinner forehand video analysis out there, only this one captured the essence of it. Why do I say so? Because it somehow sunk into my head and I tried it on court and holy smoke now my forehand has been transformed from a weakness to almost like a weapon. Before everyone in my club keep hitting to my forehand and wait for me to make error. Now they avoid it like a plague. And it has been only 3 sessions ago that I applied the changes. For me personally it was literally "that game changing breakthrough that you've been missing" as Alex said in the video! To be fair my swing was already fast and compact, but it was very unreliable (60-70% chance of error). After applying these tips, my forehand has more power, spin, and most importantly more reliable (now may be 20-30% chance of error and continuing to improve). Many thanks Alex. You're amazing! (I think this is my first ever youtube comment. I feel obliged to say thank you as I feel so happy)

Alex - this is fantastic! some very nice nuanced insights in this video that go a level deeper into the kinetic chain without overcomplicating things! The flailing of the racket was something I was doing naturally but told by coaches not to - to focus on a more controlled finish... interesting to see your take on it with Jannik's technique
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes that finish is useful for some players especially ones who are slightly stiffer in the wrist that allows the racquet head to maintain momentum. What was the reason they wanted you to stop it?
@dennisfois84142 ай бұрын
@ I think there was a feeling that I was a little too loose but to be honest this is probably on of the drawbacks of feedback on video and slo-mo. There is such an emphasis on what the stroke looks like that the context of the actual result gets lost a bit

Excellent video, Sinner’s forehand is a great model for advanced players. And yet his game will certainly be an inspiration for all players both young and old.

Fantastic breakdown of Sinner's movement and use of natural power and momentum, gained from his proper use of the body's kinetic chain. Great explanation once again, bravo, keep up the good work!!

Hello Alex, this is my first comment since I watch your videos. In general, your videos are amazing but this one is, for me, the best I have ever seen. I will be playing on next Saterday and I will try your advices, I hope it will help to improve my forehand I am struggelling with since a long time now. Many many thanks for the very good job your are doing with Simon. Sorry for my English that is not my mother tong. Philippe (Belgium)

@PhilippeDeGrom2 ай бұрын
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Hi Alex and Simon, in fact I am not that confident on my forehand. I would like to be on automatic pilot when I do a forehand as I am on automatic pilot when I play a backhand. For my forehand I am constantly researching the "same good" movement that will give me an advantage on my opponents. I certainly am thinking too much about technique instead of being more tactical. I will try your advices and will let you know asap. Many thanks for all videos you are doing to help us.

Excellent analysis! However, as a teaching pro for decades, I’m confident most players will end up striking their head with that finish! I do appreciate the looseness!
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 ай бұрын
I think hitting your own head is avoidable if you get the right trajectory so would be interesting to see if that’s a real concern, many juniors use this technique because it allows for a good racquet head momentum without much strength in the arm

The power its not in the swing. Its in the transfer of the legs. The arms only lets you control the shot. Body and legs put the power.

A bit tricky this one imhb. While the importance of the elbow coming forward applies for both eastern forehands and semi/west forehands hitters, the elbow bent and wheelie finish are all trademarks of players hitting forehands with a semi/western grips only

Well shadow swings if you have a mirror even better, as you get better you can shadow swing with two racquets or a racquet head sleeve for more resistance. The practice doing the move when hitting balls form feeds then go into rallies and ultimately points

Hi. Lets start saying Im new with tennis. So I need a lot of help 😂 Can you make a video (if you haven't yet) on why we're hitting the ball long and how to fix it? I had a match last night, lets say it didn't go well 🤷♂️😊
@phillai9930Ай бұрын
Shall we initiate the swing from the leg and hip all the time or our left shoulder for righties? I missed my timing to meet the ball when I focused on the legs. Any remedy on that?Thanks

What is happening at that exact moment of contact and slightly after when sinner hits the ball in involving his wrist when finishing through the shot? does he consciously turn his wrist over after making contact?, or is this part of the stroke just a natural by product of the swing?
@lynyrdskynyrd97422 ай бұрын
Do you think that wrap around might be tough on the rotator cuff? I ask because a lot of club players will try to imitate pro swings... And they don't have the physical reality .. flexibility in this case to do so.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 ай бұрын
I don’t think it should be a problem as it’s a continuous movement through racquet head momentum it allows the racquet to flow without any harsh stops which is usually what strains the rotator cuff

Modern forehand taking over?
@watcher6872 ай бұрын
The biggest problem of rec players is not being able to hit the ball cleanly rather than power. This will make them even worse. Thanks!😀
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 ай бұрын
I think doing an early turn for takeback (giving you more time) then extending through contact making the contact point more predictable and finishing the stroke to make the movement fluid will only help hit the ball cleaner and more consistent so I’m gonna have to disagree with you there
@watcher6872 ай бұрын
@ Isn’t that racket inversion on take back too extreme for a rec player? Isn’t an Agassi type forehand more likely to be hit cleanly and consistently?

Dont copy sinner style . Not for casual player
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 ай бұрын
Why not?
@sawyer7191Ай бұрын
For the casual player there is a fitness level you need to have to do this. I would like to think I’m pretty fit given my background in gymnastics and ballet, and tennis 5 times a week now. In order for me to swing a racquet correctly it took me doing supplementary fitness exercises and building up muscles I didn’t use to not strain my muscles. Sinner’s shot is very technical and requires you to master a lot of elements and knowing how to engage muscles to properly rotate. Plus moving your elbow that fast and bent can hurt, especially if you are trying to be loose. Sinner is my favorite player, but how he hits the ball is not easy to copy for a causal player trying to learn their game or to restructure their swing!
@colinbyer3018Ай бұрын
The way sinner hits it is not bad to copy, the only thing that looks tough is the pat the dog position looks weird, everything else is pretty normal tho
