SINNER THE WINNER!!❤ US men now in a 21 year drought at US Open Championships!!
@kagakai77292 ай бұрын
Americans are taught to serve as big as possible and to always go for winners. This makes sense, as the courts they grow up on are fast. Europeans, however, grow up on clay. They are taught to endure protracted rallies, to play high percentage tennis, and to make as few unforced errors as possible. At the highest level of tennis, where players play hundreds of points over five hours, and where _everyone_ is athletic enough to neutralize pace, the American game plan just doesn't work. Tennis is a marathon, not a knock-out sport.
@choide192 ай бұрын
this is partially true, but Fritz just does not have the physical gifts to play high percentage tennis against Jannik and survive, he just doesn’t move well enough. Fritz knew his only chance of winning was redlining his forehand, taking on a much higher risk profile, and hoping he could hit sinner off the court. His forehand, as could be expected, got a lot more erratic then but tiafoe is an american who plays really high percentage tennis. alcaraz is a european who plays extremely risky and aggressive. its not necessarily american or european, but you’re right in terms of the serve where the natural throwing motion of american sports and the faster courts do encourage faster serving and thus a more aggressive game built more around big serves. but i would also question the idea that a dominant serve forehand player can’t dominate (see roger federer)

@@choide19 True - hoping to outlast him in heavy bombardment baseline exchanges was not an option. Big Strike tennis was the right way to go
@kagakai77292 ай бұрын
@@choide19 Alcaraz can play high percentage tennis and does regularly. His %points won in a rally of more than 3 shots is one of the best on tour, and his "risky" shots aren't as risky as conventionally thought, since he hits with a _ton_ of spin
@mrmitchell40892 ай бұрын
@@kagakai7729 Last line is debatable. It depends who you play. Some players are knock out artists and can dictate the match if allowed.
@choide192 ай бұрын
@@kagakai7729 ughhh, yes, and alexander zverev can hit his forehand really well sometimes, and fritz can volley well sometimes, but that’s not the point. when alcaraz loses, and he does lose, it’s because he’s playing undisciplined tennis, not playing to safe targets, and missing too much. this also tend to happen more when juan carlos ferrero isn’t in the box and carlos is left to fend for himself

Frankly I don't expect to see Fritz winning a major anytime soon... not because of his tennis, that could be up to the task, but because of his mental attitude: he seems incapable to focus on what really matters under that kind of pressure: I watched him addressing the crowd, compulsively touching his hair, verbalising (unneeded) explanations for his mistakes and it looked like he was expecting some kind of help from the outside (the crowd, the box, his muscle memory...) instead of being in the moment (in the game) as needed. The nice Italian, on the contrary, enjoys the pressure and this seemed to widen the gap between the two of them in the last, decisive games of the 3rd set.

Commenter claimed that Jannik initially only spoke German when he arrived at Piatti's school, and then he learned Italian. Where did this man get his information from?🤣
@Dala-q4g2 ай бұрын
It’s true . In nutshell he is German speaker because where he was born is a bilingual place: German and Italian. He learned Italian at school who speak very fluently without accent. The territory called south Tyrol is Italian territory. Before the first war belonged to Austria and after become Italian. So there 98% speak German and the rest Italian.
