A cousin of mine was quite an artist. He once painted a portrait of President Kennedy and sent it off to him. In return he received a signed letter of appreciation. Some years later my cousin committed suicide - a sad situation in a time period where homosexuality was frowned upon and being in the closet was not of much help. I was a small boy and never knew these details until many years after his death. Needless to say this letter from President Kennedy was always on proud display at my aunt’s house and gave us all a sense of pride. If only he lived long enough to witness today’s acceptance…

I am taking a break from work at the moment and using the time to have a big sort out in the home we have lived in for 23 years. It is so cathartic to clean and sort, and after three boots full of items to the charity shop the house feels so much lighter. Good for you for promoting this activity!

I’m glad you are using natural cleaning products since it’s better for you and Sophie. I finally decided to buy a new sofa but have been waiting over two months to receive it. Delayed shipment they say. So be prepared to wait. Little Sophie was determined not to move off the sofa even when you were removing the slipcovers,so cute.

I found your video by searching youtube and the cleaning information you provided was very helpful. I'm going to try your dusting solution. Each Spring I do a complete cleaning of our small cottage and find that lavendar is a fresh scent that is very calming. I feel it is important to treat yourself from time to time. I often buy myself flowers for my home and occasionally purchase either a magazine or a book (anything relating to flowers or flower arranging). I found as I get older that I don't need all the items that clutter my house and often donate items to charity. Please continue to provide more wonderful videos.

Lovely. So happy you bought a mixing bowl. When you take a baking course, one of the first things they’ll teach you is to use weight measurements. Especially when it comes to dry ingredients, such as flour and oats. Using measuring cups for dry ingredients can dramatically alter the actual amount of your ingredients, depending on how dense the ingredients are. It can make all the difference in the quality of your baked goods. Get yourself a quality electronic scale and leave it on your counter.

Nicolas, Thanks for the tips on how to clean the house using natural products. I love doing the same. I made the muffins three times already. Instead of milk, I used cashew milk. Instead of a agave syrup, I used date syrup. Instead of regular yogurt, I used vegan coconut-based yogurt with mixed berries. I also didn’t have large oats, so I used oat bran, and it worked fine. PS. I also love the fact that you don’t use the annoying popular music in the background, but instead you use these pleasantly sounding instrumentals. I especially adore the classical music ones. 👋🏻

The tree painting and the green velvet cushions are clearly meant to share the same space. Have you thought of having new slipcovers made for the sofa? Cheaper than an entire new sofa and since it's a quality piece, that may be all it needs to feel new again. Perhaps something in a dark green? (And great mixing bowl!)

Excellent taste of cushions Nicolas you sparked my motivation I make my own dusting spray I use lemon rinds hot steaming water add to my spray bottle..lemons have a disinfectant cleansing action that I use on my carpet and walls and use a wet and dry vaccum cleanerI see your washing machine is in the kitchen perfect idea because of waste water collection I use sodium hydroxide to clean out my washing machine and septic system..

Wonderful video. I love the painting and particularly your thoughts about it. I don’t know how you will feel about getting advice from an old interior designer but I will charge on. The gold frame really suits the landscape and looks great in your pretty room. I can’t tell but it looks as if the frame may have some of that flocked paper as part of it. If so, your instinct to paint it is good, but don’t whitewash it. Elevate the gold frame. If you spray it with gold metallic then age it with paint and wax it can be beautiful. I always enjoy your vlogs. This is the best time of year to spruce up the home. It takes a lot of effort to accomplish everything you did and in addition bake the muffins. I’m working along the same lines and I too find it quite satisfying. I guess I’m doing more of what they call a California sobriety where when I’m in a social setting I limit myself to 2 glasses of wine otherwise I abstain from drinking alcohol all together. Wonderful video again, Nicolas. I so enjoy watching you and Sophie. Thanks for the dusting solution tip, too. I use essential oils in my home cleaning regimen, too. I have a Miele vacuum cleaner and every time I put a new bag in, I pop a little cotton wool pad soaked in warm water with a few drops of patchouli essential oil on. This diffuses a beautiful aroma around the house as the vacuum is in operation - patchouli is also antiseptic and anti-fungal as well as being anti-bacterial... it is also soothing as a fragrance, but you can use any essential oil in this way! XXX
