Not the sexiest solution but for dandruff and scalp sensitivity I like to mix one drop of tea tree oil with whatever shampoo I’m using! Sometimes I will apply shampoo and let it sit on my scalp while I do another step in my shower, then rinse out. I love the tingly feeling and it really balances my roots too!

I always suffer from a dry, itchy, flaky scalp! I tried Briogeo's Scalp Revival Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo and I am in love! It is the only thing that has ever worked for me...and it smells delicious to boot! Plus, no sulfates, no silicones, no pthalates, no parabens, no DEA and no artificial dyes so it is actually good for your hair!

My scalp typically gets super flaky in harsh winter climates too! I used to just massage my scalp with coconut oil before shampooing, which did help a lot, but now I use Aesop's Sage and Cedar Scalp treatment and WOW! First winter I haven't had to deal with any flakes! I use Aesop's Calming Shampoo too.

Ingrid! I am a hairstylist. There is a difference between dandruff and dry scalp. Dandruff is a build up of oils from your scalp and product build up. It is usually yellowish. Dry scalp usually has white dry flakes and is very common this time of year. I recommend tea-tree oil based shampoos. I love Paul Mitchell tea tree lavender shampoo for my dry scalp. If you use a dandruff shampoo for dry scalp it may seem affective at first, but will eventually lead to worsening the problem because it is trying to reduce oil on your scalp making your skin dryer!

I always have problems in the winter with super dry scalp and itchiness and my skin responds really well to eucalyptus and mint. Even though it's not the same as dandruff, I use the OGX eucalyptus mint shampoo and their coconut milk conditioner. The eucalyptus and mint is super calming and the coconut milk is really hydrating. My scalp is picky af and this combo has helped me soooooo much, I don't have nearly as many problems.

Ingrid, I know that dandruff life. What I use to help with it is Neutrogena Tea Tree Shampoo, it's a medicated shampoo that can be bought in a drug store but it does wonders! What I do is lather it in my scalp and let it sit. So while it's sitting in my hair I wash my body etc then rinse it out. I do notice it is rather drying for me personally so I just follow up with a conditioner afterwards, but it does wonders for my dandruff and itchy scalp.

I use olive oli as a hair mask and Head and Shoulders 2 in 1 Shampoo and conditioner to help with dry scalp. I massags olive oil into my scalp and through my hair and leave for about 30 mins. It helps get rid of any crap in my hair. I only do it once a month. I use Head and Shoulders and whenever I have used anything else other than that my hair has hated it! I make sure that no product is left on my scalp when I wash my hair.

For a quick home remedy to help with dry/itch scalp is mixing lemon juice and apple cider vinegar (I also add a couple drops of Rosemary oil) in a travel sized spray bottle. Spray it on the scalp and leave on for about 10-15 minutes and rinse in the shower. I spray mine on my scalp before I got to bed and then take a shower in the morning. Hope this helps :)

My hairdresser recommended adding some peppermint oil to your shampoo. Just a couple of drops straight into it. If my hair is needing some extra care, I put some of the peppermint oil into what ever oil I have available (coconut, avocado, etc.) and just give myself a scalp massage and let it set for awhile (20-30min; always a good time to do a face mask :)). So far it's helped with getting rid of it.

Ingrid please read for a suggestion!!! The only thing that has helped my dandruff is "Nizoral" shampoo. I got mine off of amazon. You can read all of the reviews. I get a lot of flaking along my hair line and even with dandruff shampoos from the drugstore, I was still getting it. After the first use of the nizoral shampoo, I had not one single flake when I got out of the shower! Read the reviews too if you want more input. Also, I use a handheld little scrubber in the shower. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's just a little thing that fits in your palm that has rubber spikes on it to help apply the shampoo to your hair and exfoliates your scalp. It feels amazing, like a scalp massage. I got that from amazon too for maybe only $4. Hope you look into these options!!

Hey Ingrid! For dry scalp or dandruff, I definitely recommend not using dry shampoo. I understand it is definitely something that gives volume and is so nice for those busy days, but you have to make sure that the dry shampoo has good ingredients. A lot of dry shampoos have propane and it can actually be the cause for your dry scalp and dandruff. You should look up dry shampoos with better ingredients or natural alternatives 😁

Ingrid! I'm a licensed cosmetologist, and I'd strongly recommend AGAINST using a medicated dandruff shampoo. There's a difference between dry scalp and dandruff, and it sounds like you just have dry scalp issues (super common in the winter). Dandruff can be caused by lots of different things, but it's typically slightly yellow, and can be clumpy or sort of stick to your hair. With dry scalp you'll have flakes that are dry, white, and easily brush out of your hair. A medicated dandruff shampoo can make dry scalp a lot worse!! I like to mix tea tree and lavender essential oil with a carrier oil (like almond oil or grape seed oil) and then massage it directly into my scalp. I let it sit for a half hour or so under a shower cap, and then shampoo and condition as usual!! Works like a dream, plus it's cheap and all-natural

Hi Ingrid!! The Ducray Kelual DS is the only shampoo that helps me with dandruff. I don’t like it as a shampoo per se, because my hair is oily and in me this doesn’t work, so I use a regular shampoo very quickly afterwards just to finish cleaning my hair. But the Ducray one was recommended to me by a dermatologist. It calms my scalp down, the itch gets better after the first application and I usually only need to use it four to five times. The bottles are tiny and it is expensive but it has been my faithful savior ever since i discovered it.

In regards to your scalp and the dandruff and itchiness. I had this issue for over a month and nothing seemed to help. I finally asked my dermatologist about it and she looked at my scalp and said I had some eczema on my scalp! I have never had eczema before, anywhere on my body. She gave me a prescription shampoo to use 2-3 times a week and after a week of using it the itching was WAY less and the dandruff started to go away little by little. I would go to your dermatologist! :) It’s miserable. And nothing over the counter seemed to help. I get it. Good luck!
