Thanks for all the awesome content over the years Turin! Sorry to hear about your hands, I just learned about psoriatic arthritis in medical school this week. It’s an awful thing to have. Just want you to know your channel has been my favorite study break content for years now. Thanks again!

Love how Turin lost his central cistern and didnt realize the gaping hole in his aquaduct system for ten minutes.

I feel like the Shinto relic generation thing would make way more sense for Byzantines, since a core part of their culture (and modern orthodox culture too) was the construction of Icons that were brought into battle, inspired defenders in sieges, and housed in churches and homes etc. I agree with Turin that it's odd they don't have religious mechanics.
@ΔημητρηςΓιαγκουδης Жыл бұрын
I would have liked to see more religious byzantine stuff, and frankly it would make sense given how much of a centerpiece they were to christainity. But I will give credit to aoe4 for daring to explore other aspects of the empire aside from monks and churches. Even in academic circles people tend to forget that Byzantium was not an empire made of priests. Relic explored the economy and military side of the empire through irrigation and focus on units such as spears and cavalry that were essential parts of byzantine military tactics. They also focused heavily on mercenaries, which is faithful to the latter stages of the empire. It is a fresh take, but a small nod to the rich religious history of the Byzantines would be welcome. It is weird to see the Rus having more of a religious theme, even though the Byzantines were the ones to convert them into orthodoxy.
@FreshlyBakedLePain Жыл бұрын
@@ΔημητρηςΓιαγκουδης Good points! Also its weird that the Rus are called the Rus, but the Byzantines are called "Byzantines" rather than Romaioi or East Romans or something more faithful to their actual self-image. But in fairness I assume that's probably also true of the Mongols and Mali, though I'm not sure how they referred to themselves. And yes, I love the aqueducts feature!
@fridgeking6014 Жыл бұрын
The mercenary system also seems kinda strange. Fighting with Streltsi and longbowmen doesn't really sound Byzantine to me, and why are they paid in olive oil???
@FreshlyBakedLePain Жыл бұрын
@@fridgeking6014 lol yes that is weird. The Varangians were also famously Viking mercenaries but in this they're native troops, so 🤷♂. Also the mercenaries were a symptom of the Empire's decline, rather than one of their strengths, so it doesn't fit for me as one of their unique bonuses.

Turin plays so Aggressive when he doesn't have anyone to fight he just starts mass killing his own units. Hesays its for supply but really just enjoys the bloodshed. Lol

Turin, please just make more gates if you have pathing issues! Even 2 right next to each other makes it like a double door so multiple siege can pass through. Epic plays though love these FFA's

Isn't Japan supposed to be a civilisation characterised by poor natural resources, balanced out by an abundance of foreign trade and military units influenced by the West? Why did the developers opt for another infinite gold printer instead of that?
@lazywalrusHD Жыл бұрын
because people would team up on japan for trading because it'd be even more impactful for them than a different civ? gameplay =/= real life
@turinRTS Жыл бұрын
Japan's eco is strange, they really can't build farm eco away from main TCs. The relic system with shinto is REALLY slow in 1v1 also, and seems decent in ffa, not as good as guild hall imo. Time will tell!
@Scottmw14 Жыл бұрын
Good point, we've only seen the gold printers in FFA eco turtle builds so far. Should probably reserve judgement until I've seen some faster-paced 1v1 games.

No Japan was an isolated country with very little trade with the outer world, compared to other asian civilizations despite historical romance of Japanese trade. But they do have a trade landmark at age 4 though
