Thanks again for an interesting video, I love how personable you are with these news stories which can sometimes be a bit "formal" ( is that the correct word? You know what I'm getting at I guess... ) Some of the top news stories from The Netherlands in 2018 ( curated by me :) ): - January 3: For the first time since their initial construction all 5 major flood barriers were secured in anticipation of the arrival of cyclone Burglind. As you may know a large part of our country is below sea-level and whenever nature throws us a curve ball we have to focus our efforts to keep our feet dry :) - June 6: Inés Zorreguieta, youngest sister of Queen consort Máxima of the Netherlands, took her own life in her apartment in Buenos Aires. This sparked a great deal of talk concerning the need to address mental health issues. - Ongoing: On a more positive note; The European wolf has been extinct in The Netherlands for some time now, but in 2018 up to 10 different individual wolves have been spotted in the wild in our forests, indicating a possible revival of the wolf in the Dutch wilderness.

Thanks for the wrap up. I was actually expecting some mention of the gender discrimination in medical universities, which started in one, and then there were revelations at others. It seemed big news when I paid a visit this year...

Having lived in England I guess it would still be the whole Brexit situation and how support/direction for that seems to be up in the air.

What's the significance of the name Yomiuri Shimbun?
@73elephants6 жыл бұрын
Yomi = read, uri = sales, shimbun = newspaper. Yomiuri is the name of the publishing company. Pretty boring, I guess.

idk about the other stories but that earthquake was a big deal for me. I was totally unprepared for it. At least it happened while it was warm... can you imagine if it had been winter?

In Italy it was 4th March election and subsequent formation of a government composed of an unlikely coalition made of an anti-establishment movement (5 Stars) and a right wing party (Lega).

This year Naomi Osaka, because of her age, has to give up her duel citizenship and choose either American or Japanese. Since she has lived in America since she was 3, it seems doubtful she will pick Japan, but who knows. If she chooses American She can't play for the Japanese Tennis Association anymore, I don't know if that effects Olympics or not.

she might not have to, but it is an interesting situation to keep an eye on... www.japantimes.co.jp/community/2018/09/19/how-tos/japans-nationality-act-really-mean-dual-citizens/#.XC9gbM8zY8Y
