@UmmYeahOk
@UmmYeahOk 3 ай бұрын
While yes, it could easily be seen that way, it’s not discriminating against race or nationality. It’s like charging locals a different tuition, or giving residents a locals discount. You can be an American and also a resident of Japan. The idea is that if you’re living in Japan, you either are a student and have no job, or have a job, even if through a work visa. Since you would then have to deal with Japanese income and cost of living expenses, you’re not the same American who shows up for a week or two realizing that their dollar is worth twice as much there, enjoying luxuries locals cannot afford.

@@Madame702 Japan is a resource-poor island nation. Any domestically produced industrial goods intended for export require a large amount of imported resources. The depreciation of the yen does not benefit the import sector at all. Just look at Japan's trade surplus over the recent period to understand this. While moderate currency depreciation can indeed benefit the export economy, the yen's depreciation has become too severe in Japan's case.
@Madame702
@Madame702 3 ай бұрын
@@yulu4835 You think that however it doesn't work that way. Just remember Japan is making value added manufacturing. So their output in exports way more valuable. This why both China and India manipulate their currencies to lower it's value. Japan need exports it doesn't have the internal consumption so a weak Yen benefits Japan's over all economy.

I don't think so. Minimum wage here does not move at all, and has barely moved in decades. A barista at Starbucks in America makes more money than someone with 10~15 years experience working on your favorite anime, or at some of the top game studios. It's crazy expensive here and the cost of items has only gone up. People want to enjoy the local shops at low prices, but if the prices are too high for local people, they will close and chain stores will overtake them. I don't think people want to travel thousands of km to eat at a chain restaurant.

This analysis is superficial. Krugman says Japan would enjoy the merit by low Yen. Japanese export firms and financial ministry are hitting record high. Besides Japan doesn't depend on only export and is earning financial revenue as it's the largest creditor country in the world. Japanese financial ministry has only to re-distribute the biased profit to suffering people.

This is why countries really need to quickly move to using local currencies for trade and move away from total US dollar dependency. The world wide depreciation of currencies are being sparked because of U.S manipulation of their currency. Each time there is an economic crisis the U.S will alway try to raise interest rates to strengthen the USD at the expense of the other currencies around world. Weaker countries especially are hard hit by these policies.

@@6kpda733 It is not because of the U.S economy or political system. It is because after world war 2 most countries were devastated. The U.S offered and, in some way forced thru petro dollar agreement, the use of the USD as an international currency as a convenient way for trading. Back then the U.S promised that the USD will be a neutral currency that everyone can use and that the U.S will never weaponize it. However as history have shown the U.S has increasingly been going against what they promised.

What is it with non-Americans who think the US should weaken its economy and devalue its currency to suit their needs? Japan is in a dire strait because of the policies it pursued in the 60s to 80s, the demographic collapse, and the fact that Japan is resource-poor. Never mind that Japan has in essence crippled its economy when it pursued a negative interest rate policy. Japan has become rich primarily because it traded with the US.

That’s the inevitable consequence of Quantitative Easing, I think that’s still better than the alternative at least the Yen losing value makes Japanese products more competitive hence boosts the economy whereas if the BOJ was to not buy the Japanese debt the government would be paying high amounts of interest rates and have to resort to austerity measures. Austerity hurts the average person just as much as a falling currency but doesn’t bring any benefit to the economy.

Japanese companies can charge whatever they want. But what about foreigners who live and work in Japan. They deal with the same weak yen issues as Japanese people. The man being interviewed probably is discriminating against foreigners. He probably doesn’t get many western customers, but Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese people who lived in Japan for many years or their entire lives probably have been eating at his restaurant. Wonder if he base prices on how well those people speak Japanese. If I was a business owner in Japan and I get a lot of foreign tourists as customers. price advertised should be the regular price. People who present a Japanese ID get 10% discount. This way people who are not Japanese but live and work in Japan get the discount too.

Bitcoin is highly impacted by inflation Moreso that regular currencies. The argument that it is inflation proof is nonsense. The main cause of inflation is banks creating money from nothing by lending money they don't have to each other. They can do that because it's just numbers in a computer. Cash is so rarely used that it doesn't matter if they have enough bills to pay out all the deposits. This is how there is many times more money stored in banks than physically exists in printed form, however the government imposes rules on how much digital money banks can create per physical dollar they possess. Bitcoin transactions have no such regulations. The company that holds your bitcoin wallet does not have nearly enough bitcoin to pay all depositors and there is no limit to how much of it they can lend to each other using your deposit as collateral. Even if you are sure your coins are safe, the fact that other people's banks create more bitcoin out of nothing lowers the value of yours.

Also no company is holding my bitcoin wallet (that one of the reasons we need bitcoin). You hold it yourself, nobody can touch it. Its also impossible to create more bitcoin (that why its deflationary). Just study bitcoin before commenting like this.
