No that is different. This is only for living things like humans and animals. NEN = year. I don't drink but I think you would say 1885年の赤ワイン or something like that "a year 1885 red wine".

The other way to approach the age game is to answer with an age that is obviously way too low -- the reactions are hilarious! And there actually is a very good reason for asking someone's age upon first meeting: To determine the level of politeness that is appropriate in addressing or speaking about the person. That's why it's not considered rude to ask someone's age upon first meeting; in fact, it's considered de rigeur to ask!

Maaaaan your videos are so awesome. The way you explain things keeps me interested and entertained throughout every lesson! The only one thing I am missing a little bit so far is the use of Hiragana and Kanji. I've spent a whole month learning Hiragana and Katakana with few Kanjis without even being able to say too much. But I wanted to avoid looking at Romanji characters. If you ever re-record the series again perhaps you could include the Hiragana spelling. Anyway, thanks for the vids, great job and can't wait to get the books with it!!

Ah. You mean I said my age when you were expecting your own? If I magically knew your age that would be so amazing!
@SlainByTheWire8 жыл бұрын
Maybe my mixing of Japanese numbers made what I said confusing. So I'm 29 and had 29 in my head, I knew you were 43 so I was expecting you to say 43, but then you said 29 jokingly. So I was expecting you to say your age, but you said my age. But because you were saying it in Japanese, I thought I messed up the numbers.

The age guessing thing is totally going to happen to you in Japan. When I went there on business, some coworkers asked me unsolicited (in English, because no one assumed I could speak Japanese, and they were right), how old I thought they were. It was quite the fun game, clearly it's a common thing in Japan. Wish I had known the hatachi thing then, to flatter the ladies and surprise everyone that I knew the exception :)

However I think Atomic Robo Tesla is right in saying that most likely after course 1 is done I won't release this style on KZbin but will only have them for the paying members on the website. It makes business sense that way. The only thing I get out of putting everything on KZbin now is 80 bucks a month :-), and at 100k users I would get a sweet award for my office, but beyond that I really only gain great comments on KZbin and not actual money.
