You are literally the best teacher i've ever taken lessons from, i mean yea i want to learn japanese and i came here for that so i should be happy i am learning, but it's not only about learning, you make it look very easy and you have structured your lessons very well, but you also joke a few times and say things off script to make us feel like we are learning from a human and not a robot that only reads scripts and shows stuff on screen, you have a type of charisma to you that just makes almost anybody feel comfortable when taking these lessons compared to school where as most teachers just don't really care and want to get the lesson over with and i mean why are you there if you don't want to teach people stuff, teachers in schools are mostly un-charismatic or robot-like and it makes you feel like you are in a medication of some sort, just taking your dose and ending it there with nothing more to it, it's so weird that i feel better learning with some dude i found online than my supposed "teachers" in school.

@@iscreamanimation yeah, idk. for an average english speaker, they likely wouldn't have any prior experience with a sound like that, because it's just not present in english. I'm not sure if "a fusion of D and L" is the best way to put it, but it's a completely understandable explanation. Just showing exactly what it sounds like and what the tongue movement is would probably be a lot easier to follow that "between D and L" though...

@El Malakh Feo It actually couldn't. Learning a language really well isn't about the more the better. It's the other way around, the brain needs tons of time to memorize stuff, especially a language like this. And also, the muscles of the mouth needs tons of practice to learn how to pronounce the sounds of the language well. The fact is, rushing is the antidote to overwhelming, failing and so on. Though I'm not against intensive approaches, don't get me wrong, it depends on the individual.

I'm moving to Japan in a week, and I am going to sit here and watch as many of your videos as is physically possible until I leave - and then watch the rest when I arrive. Thank you, thank you, thank you. They're rehashing things I've already learnt since I have been at it for 12 months, but it's consolidating the information into a much stronger base for going into more advanced study - but still total amaze-balls. Now I can not sound like an idiot talking to Japanese friends on line. I will buy your books when I get to Japan and sign up to your Patreon, that still doesn't feel like thank you enough!!

I think I've found a useful instance where "Tanaka-san desu ka" would mean "Am I Tanaka?", that i think most people could relate to. OK, so you've just woken up in the middle of the night and decide to head downstairs to get something to drink, but sleepy as you are you get lost along the way and end up in an alternate dimension. You're standing in front of a giant obelisk. You lean forward looking at your reflection, but you don't see yourself, you see Mr. Tanaka... "Tanaka-san desu ka".
@japanesefromzero8 жыл бұрын
Interesting theory Snoop. But in this scenario you are looking into a reflection ASSUMING it is another person, and this of course is why you are using SAN. But you forget that in this case you most likely would say "Dare desu ka" instead. I am sure though there is an alternate dimension where putting SAN on someone's name is a considerable insult.

Learning japanese for spanish language speakers is easier. Because in Spanish we don't use the subject either if it's already established. For example, when in English you would say "This is my sister, she is a doctor", we in spanish would say "Esta es mi hermana, ES DOCTORA" ... without saying "ella = she" because we already stablished we're talking about MY SISTER. And we would keep talking about her without saying again "ella = she" unless we change the subject of the conversation.

I started learning first from Rosetta Stone before my nephew turned me onto your books. I had to come up wtih my own theories on why you did not pronounce su in desu. I came up with the idea that they are saying desu but the "oo" portion was spoken as a trail off of the des part and the u/oo sounds was the trail off of the S sound in des. Not sure if this is the case but this is how it made sense to me in learning the pronunciation on my own.
