Well, wasabi isn't so much "spicy" as it is "pungent". In the amounts that come in things like sushi by default, you usually don't get that burning sensation in your nose. I've read in numerous places that most people in Japan don't like wasabi in the amount that burns your nose - I can't confirm because I don't live there, but that seems to be the consensus from the people that have. I imagine it's a lot like the way we in the US would use horseradish. Although, if you're looking for places that do have a lot of spicy food, you're thinking of Thailand and India. Thailand's most popular foods are stir-fry dishes, usually involving Thai Chilis in some form, and India has many spicier dishes, such as curries and chilis.

As a Mexican American who grew up in a Mexican home with only Mexican food and snacks, I can assure you most of these foods are acquired tastes (with the exception of go-gurt). I remember trying all these foods for the first time because of my friends and HATING them. I only grew to like them because I was exposed to them time and time again. Now nothing sounds as comforting as sitting down with a bag of hot cheetos and a Twinkie. Except for Dr.Pepper. I hated dr.pepper for most of my life until I got a craving for something extremely sweet one day and my sister had some in the fridge. I drank it and then just started liking it from there. Now I’m in Japan and when I don’t like something, I try it again a few months later to see if it’s also an acquired taste. Many things are and I’ve also grown to like food here I didn’t like at first.

to be completely fair you have to grow up eating those spicy things. Having eaten them from time to time I developed a resistance to the regular ones but now they have a spicier flavor that is in a black bag and man those things were practically forged in a volcano. Have you tried it with sugar instead of corn syrup? It’s almost a complete different game. You can get it in Texas or just find it on Amazon. Give it a try and you’ll never be the same.

adonian They sell it everywhere atm. It's limited edition. But I think it'll stay around permanently like Mountain Dew made with sugar did.

@TheBoltMaster I agree. I dislike spicy food and I have a horrible tolerance to them. I *love* cheetos but I can't take the hot ones at all.

There are people who say Jalapeno Cheeto's are spicy when I can only barely tell they're warm after eating a hand full of them...

I remember my first problem when I moved to US in my early 20s. Couldn’t stand peanut butter at all. Now you have to hide those reeses from me. The few things I still don’t like is sponge like bread and weak coffee in giant cup.
