The Hansel und Gretel story was told to children to keep them from wandering into the woods and getting lost... by telling them that their sweet dreams about a land of candy beyond their sight was dangerous to seek out, and that the woods harbored a witch who will eat them if they went looking for it. Others have interpreted the story as a warning not to trust strangers, even helpful or kind ones. Perhaps this Japanese tale is a warning against playing around a fire? And that doing so may summon a witch? Interesting video topic. Keep em coming!

There's not much information about this yokai other than the source story. That's from a book called 秋田の民話.
