Japan isn't allowed to have a standing military like other countries. It was agreed upon after WWII. They do have security defense forces, which is analogous to a standing military.

Probably cost. I'd figure it'll cost the military more to buy individual bikes for each soldier rather than just buy one armored personnel vehicle that can carry a whole squad with it while also providing firepower

Yes the KLX. One of my favourite motorcycles, not as good and cheap like my entry level Yamaha 4-gear auto-clutch though. One question, is it specially made for the military? It looked a bit different, but way more badass. Edit : the description explained everything. With pricetag around 4.5k USD :(

June 25, 2022---Thanks for the video. Got back into modeling but going for realistic 1/35 scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas. Thing is, there's NO modern bikes in this scale unless you want to go to either diecast in 1/32 scale or those from WW 2. And yeah, going to use what I've bought, but as for this and other model kits, will give them different paint jobs along with different kinds of gear on them. This is why I have 6 of Tamiya's 1/35 JSDF bikes like the ones shown in your video.

These bikes are actually quite good at escorting armoured columns. Say, German motorcycles saw some good use in Soviet Union during WW2. Yet, these side safe guards while being useful when putting bike on the side, are not so good when driving in the truck rut. Trust me, when moving in armoured column, sooner or later any motorcycle driver will find himself in 1m deep rut. I would have designed them foldable or easily removable.

i just realized this... motorcycle unit is kinda useful in today's warfare. Not in a direct contact way but like a ambush AT or AA... i saw a video of 2 man team anti tankers (nlaw) in Ukraine riding the fastest electric bike in the world. I'm not sure if they had a kill but I'm pretty use a extremely mobile AT could kill any target and relocate themselves quickly from enemy retaliation.

We had KlR250s and then a diesel KLR 650 in US. Marine Communication Units, until someone realized they were impractical, had zero survivability and Tactically unsound.
