@@slkjvlkfsvnlsdfhgdght5447 from "decimation" the practice within Roman Legions as a severe form of punishment. One-tenth of the soldiers would be beaten to death by the rest, selected via a lottery of sorts. Decimated, originally, meant to have one-tenth, or 10%, killed. (Boris, your comment only showed up for me after I typed this. XD)
@GerdiHono4 жыл бұрын
I mean semantics shift. That's normal. That's simply not what the word "to decimate" means anymore in a modern context. It's also a borrowed word into English for that matter. To be far even in the modern context they do have slightly different meanings. "Annihilate" implies complete destruction, nothing left. "Decimate" implies heavy destruction and loss but not necessarily to the point of console annihilation. At least that's how I perceive these words in general parlance.
@Rawrshuga4 жыл бұрын
@@GerdiHono Yup, there are lots of words like that. "Awful" used to mean "fills with awe". Now it's more like "fills with dread". "Decimate" just irritates me, given how often it's used and how many other words could serve. Slaughtered, destroyed, eradicated... not many words mean "killed one in ten".

Funfact: In Japan the Game is as good as sold out from what I've heard. Sony is telling people that, if they can't wait for more physical copies to arrive, they please should buy Digital. Also, the game does not only have the Kurosawa mod, it's also a love letter to the Kurosawa movies, so they weren't going for Historical accuracy to begin with. Hence Katana instead of Tachi and the reverse way of carrying it. Btw. could it be that you forgot to subtitle a few of your parts? I overall did like the video, though i think i'd prefer it with you speaking english, simply for ease of viewing. And I'd say it'd be a bit less work for you as well. :D

@GiRayne Nice Rant, just a tiny little thing: It was the FANS who first called it "Kurosawa Mode". It originaly had been called... i think "Samurai Mode" and the fans called it "Kurosawa Mode". And Sucker Punch just ran with it. Also, have you even finished the game? Because it surely is not just "Look! Samurai are awesome!!!" you'll notice when you finish the second act.
@friedlemons52014 жыл бұрын
@GiRayne I think you're looking way too much into this. All "Kurosawa mode" really adds is a black and white screen which, I think, is just a reference to the fact that many of his films don't have color and has nothing to do with the script and the themes which are a lot more about traditional ideals of honor and the samurai code
@undertakernumberone14 жыл бұрын
@GiRayne I'd say wait with your judgement until you have seen the full game. Because there is more to it than what you see in this video. The game was inspired by Kurosawa movies and was intended as a bit of a tribute to him. That it doesn't completely go with how he told his Story doesn't change it. A "Love letter" does not always have to be exactly in the same way as the person it is a Love letter to did it. And using "Violence Sparingly" in an action open world game is kinda difficult to archieve.
@undertakernumberone14 жыл бұрын

This just proves my theory: That Metatron has the abilities of the highest polyglots, that is, the ability to not only speak another language with fluency but an ability to actually THINK in their other languages as well. That's extremely rare. Edit: I guess I should make it more clear what I mean, and that is that it's hard to translate a 2nd language into a third. Even harder to do that at the same time as listening to the 2nd language being spoken. It's what the best translators in the world do. If you think it's easy, just give it shot. Try doing just half of it. Try listening to someone talk full speed while you type what they say, in your own language. I'll bet you'll find it's not super easy to be both fast and accurate.

Please don't comment on topics you haven't a clue about, it makes you seem dumb. All people who are truly fluent in a language can think in that language. If you still have to translate what you want to say in your head, you're still not truly fluent in that language yet!

I just imagine it as a fictional 3rd invasion of the Mongols on Tsushima set in the late Sengoku period. Since a lot of the things portrayed in the game are Sengoku period. Really the only thing that's missing are samurai with matchlocks. Now that would be badass.

It's complete fiction during the 1st invasion of China. You're absolutely right that it's based on the movies and not the time period. A lot of weapons and armor about 300 years early or so for artistic reasons, I believe. I really hope he does another video or 2 as he plays through the game, too. The Mongols are awesome. Their armor and weapons aren't realistic either but the way they...conduct business... is exactly how they did under Kubilai Khan. Learning the history of the lands they are invading and giving them the option to surrender or suffer grave consequences, to name a couple. They aren't depicted as the overwhelming horde of unintelligent horde of barbarians that movies and games tend to make them out to be.

@@DJWeapon8 that would be cool but this is based on the 1st invasion in 1274. Also, the Mongol Empire was overthrown in 1368, about 100 years before the beginning of the Sengoku Period.

@@anubrakahn2970 Good point. I'm not as educated about the Mongols so I didn't know that they were no longer unified in the 14th century.

@@DJWeapon8 A 3rd invasion is still a really cool idea though and your theory was a good guess knowing that the story is fictional.

When I told to one my Uzbek friend that his Uzbek language sounds to me like stones falling from a mountain, he answered that my native Ukrainian sounds to him like cats meows and hissing. It's all up to language.

Jesus, I speak 3 languages, and it takes me ages to translate from one language to another, and you're just doing it on the spot as they are talking.

If you are fluent enough it’s actually easy in my Case it’s Spanish, I find it easy to translate on the spot.

@@El_Diego86 its not only about fluency. Im 100% fluent in the language in question, been using it more than my native language during the last 5 years. Maybe its like multi-tasking. Im also helpless doing two things at the same time.

Very interesting video concept and execution, good for those wanting some help with the game dialogue. Would love to see more of this style of video if you enjoyed making it.

Pity there's no PC version. As much as I'd love to play this, I'm not buying a console for it.

That was an amazing video! Loved seeing you translate the video as you played it! Great way in my opinion to keep practicing my own Japanese language skills by listening to a professional language teacher!
