I saw the 'real samurai plays Ghost of Tsushima' video too. Was good.
@EyeOfMagnus4E2014 жыл бұрын
It’s not surprising that Sucker Punch went with the movie version of Bushido for plot reasons. In reality, Jin would likely be considered an idiot by his uncle for fighting “with honor”, because in real Bushido (and chivalry as well), the main point of what was considered honorable was loyalty to your liege and how to best obtain your liege’s goals. In reality, Jin or any other samurai in his situation would have gone full on ghost without hesitation right off the bat if that was the best way to save his uncle and drive out the Mongols.
@darthplagueis134 жыл бұрын
I mean, what he is doing is just stupid even by modern idealized perceptions of honour. I think part of the game is Jin learning to abandon those gullible ideas and instead starting to fight more cunningly and effectively. At this point in the story, Jin still hasn't gotten over the death of his father and is still blaming himself for just hiding and not doing anything to save him, so I guess it kind of makes sense that he's be unreasonably hesitant to take the sneaky approach.
@shawngillogly68734 жыл бұрын
Any except his Uncle, who is so hidebound to his concept of external honor he charged 80 samurai into the Mongel invasion force. And then will continue to think headlong charges are the only way to win. Shimura made Jin read Sun Tzu. But he didn't internalize any of it.
@muhanna10714 жыл бұрын
Actually the shinobi way of fighting is considered cowardly and dishonorable, but no one would care if u used poison
@EyeOfMagnus4E2014 жыл бұрын
Ausaf Kalokhe As historical ninjitsu was actually the study of espionage and not a martial art, shinobi were spies who could be recruited from any walk of life (the concept of a ninja as a distinct class of warrior is a 20th century invention. If you’re curious, Metatron here has done several videos on the topic) and on those occasions where a shinobi with combat skills was needed, a leader would usually chose a samurai or ashigaru to be the spy for that mission. Thus the “shinobi style” of fighting was often “sneaky samurai” fighting. As far as Jin being dishonorable, since samurai judged what was honorable was what their lord wanted them to do, and judged that dishonorable things were only things that their lords disapproved of, Jin’s actions would only be judged as dishonorable by other samurai only because Jin was going against his uncle’s wishes in being the ghost. Most lords who weren’t “romantics” like Jin’s uncle would fully approve of Jin’s stealth tactics as being fully honorable if that was what was needed to get the job done, especially since the opponents the tactics were being used on were mostly foreign invaders and bandits rather than other samurai.

@@RexusprimeIX Or it's just how dubbing is done in some countries. To be fair, they don't call it that in Poland or Russia, its rather something between a fully fledged dubbing and subtitles. The combat in this game does need practise, but you get better the longer you play. By the time you finish all the optional duels, every other fight (including the final bosses) are cakewalks. Max out all your talents and get some nice armour, find all the hot springs and do all the bamboo cutting, and you are a killing machine. As for Bushido, yes this is movie bushido and that's what the developers were going for. They were never shy about the fact that this game is based off Kurosawa and other period movies. So, like the arms and armour being centuries too early, this overblown idea of honour was totally intentional.
@shawngillogly68734 жыл бұрын
And yet they build a narrative around that overblown conviction of uncle's honor, such that other samurai are, and were, willing to critique it. If not contradict the Jito to his face.

Something cool: Jin usually sheathes his sword without cleaning the blood for the sake of keeping the game flowing. But if you swipe the touch pad to the right, you'll trigger a draw/shealth animation that, if his blade is wet with blood, he'll either clean it with his arm or do some cool trick like cleaning the blood by cutting the air. Better yet, if he cleans with his arm, it'll get bloody. If he does the swing trick, the blood will fall on the floor.

It'd be naive to consider either one or the other narrative completely true. One has to remember that this was in the past, before anything like the sort of stable government with state-funded police forces we know today. And even in the present day, there are police officers who oppress the people rather than protect them. Furthermore, if you look at any country with civil unrest, where policing is done by soldiers under a warlord instead of a government-run police force, you'll see much more oppression of the people than what anyone living in a peaceful state is used to. Just look at some third-world nations. Just look at what's happening in the United States at present. Unrest changes how policing appears. However, none of these discounts Jin's attitudes. Note that in the game this topic is discussed several times by Yuna, and, in this episode, is mentioned by his uncle, when he corrects Jin that a samurai's duty is to their lord and the shogun. Protecting the people is Jin's concept of honour. Though protecting the state can be synonymous with protecting the people when states are stable and economically healthy.
