Curiosity is one thing but what I don’t like is that people will forget their manners In the presence of people who look different. So I think you giving advice to people about not reaching out to touch black hair is a good thing because I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t simply stick their fingers into the hair of someone who is similar to them even if it was a style they had never seen before. Most people would ask first.

My first year in Japan, I was in a mall going up an escalator when I heard some people laughing. I look up, and it was a group of young people (late teens/ early-20s, maybe?) ahead of me looking directly at me and laughing... HARD. I was used to people staring, but laughing at me? Never. I realised later that it was the first time I'd worn my hair out. So, I crafted an experiment, and sure enough: any time I wore my hair out, there was a dramatic spike in the intensity of the stares, the pointing, the comments, and a laughter that I never got otherwise. I've been natural for over 20 years, and I LIVE for wearing my hair out. My hair is BIG. It's long (BSL) and beautiful, and I love how voluminous it is. But here in Japan, I keep it in plaits or twists (sans extensions). The constant and unending staring from Japanese people every day is one thing, but the added pointing and laughter when I wear my hair out is another. So, I feel you. Serious respect to everyone who wears their fro out regularly.

@LMLification
@LMLification Жыл бұрын
@@anqearlivv That's because they are from an insular, mono-ethnic society and just choose to be dumbfounded in each generation. This is the same society that is a proponent of having white skin over dark. Even the ones that aren't ignorant tend to think straighter hair is the norm over type 4 hair. In their minds, standing out and being different from the "norm" is not good, although you have some of them that like to appropriate our hairstyles, such as kinky twists and braids. Psychological bullying is the norm here (Japan), and they are rather "white yielding" when it comes to dealing with foreigners. Just look at how many of them run after white men, yet hold their own men to a higher standard. Being a foreigner just gives them enough ammunition to start talking sh*t, especially if you are the only one in the given situation.

If we keep hiding it they will never know and continue to act without manners towards us. They are usually just curious. No need to take it personal. I've been in Japan for roughly 7 months and I seldom wear my natural hair out. On only one occasion I wore my hair in a high bun and I had a stray strand dangling and a student came up and smoothed it down and then in surprise commented on how soft my hair was, then a crowd of teenage girls were making quick steps in our direction to also try and cop a feel, I said thank you and politely excused myself and headed to the staff room ahead of the touch session. The following day I was back to wig life. I don't want to be touched, it's just something I don't like, from Japanese people and from any other race, even my own. My students are excited everytime I wear a new wig to school. I have afro textured wigs which I prefer and they say it's cute however when I wear straight wigs, everyone is overly excited and give many nice compliments, so they definitely have a preference. This comment got super long super fast... Oops😳

It's good that the natural hair movement got some more voice honestly its so nice to see more people wearing their natural hair than destroying it to make it look straight 🙈 you're rocking your hair and its interesting to see your opinion about your own hair changed over time!

I've been living in Japan for 7 months and I live in the country side area. So I understand this completely however I mostly put my hair in one. So it would have my big puff in the back and I can feel people watching me and taking photos. However honestly my trick to survive everything is having this main character energy thinking lol. And after awhile everything just fades out and it doesn't bother me how people perceive it. Because I love my hair, and grateful for it and yes I am different so I accept it. Taking care of your hair here is crazy, I have my family ship me products because I can't get anything here lol. And my braiding skills aren't the best , so accepting my hair and just wearing it helps me so much.

This is awful. I feel you, but with less intensity. I'm white, but I have curly hair. I'm a 3c. Even in my own country people touched my hair without permission all the time. I also like to touch curly hair, but I always ask for permission bcs i know how it feels to have your hair constantly touched without consent. I hated my hair for years, only now have i started liking it. It used to annoy me when people wished they had curly hair, bcs I was made fun of when my hair had a frizzy day or had the hairdressers say nasty things throughout entire appointments. As an adult it's different bcs I am a guy, people dont touch you randomly anymore and they don't expect you to have perfect hair always like they do with women.

@makutumafwa7496

@@dadao8564 Kongo wasn't an "empire". Kongo is an initiatic state that regroup every muntu ( complete human being with all their bimwelo ( chakras) functioning) who was/is looking to build a connection ( or has already built) to the Ngo ( the Ngo= the Black Sun, the real Sun, not the holographic sun that everyone can do). The Kongo Order was worldwide, this is why Japanese call their language Nihongo. This is why you have the Kongo Rikishi, the Kongo Battleship, the Kongo Gumi company, etc... The Japanese people from the elites know about that. The masses aren't taught this thnigs, usually, but it's not really hidden. When you learn ancient Kikongo ( not the modern-day version that many descendants of Bakongo speak, this version had been butchered by Karl Laman, and his missionaries, to the point that people think that mbi= evil, nzambi= god , kindoki= witchcraft... ), which is the initiatic language by excellence, you rediscover how the ancestors from the previous Ntangu dia Kinatimaza used to see the world. The Kongo Order was present all over Katiopa ( Africa before the invasions), Pelasgia ( Eurasia before the invasions) and Tarabana ( the Americas before the invasions). Gabon might not be the real name of the place. It might be NGABU. Nga= mastery and Bu= the being that begets life. So many places ( Ivory-Coast, Cameroon, South Africa, Congo-Brazzaville : which is the most horrible names of them all. It's like Tel Aviv was called Hitl3rville) in Katiopa don't have their real name, because there is a power behind the name. When people abide to the names left by the Berlin Conference, they are automatically linked to the bizidi ( egregores) left by the European initiated people who carved Katiopa. So, Kongo is not an ethnic group nor a tribe, not even a Kingdom nor an Empire, it is/ was an intiatic Order present worldwide.

Black people, specifically black women doesn't need to teach others how to treat us. We been doing it for centuries, if they know how to portrait us in a mocking area, they know how our hair looks like and colour, so I will ignore them completely, I don't need approval.

Yeah, treating Asian men and women as children when they are fully aware what is and isn't respectful is stupid. They know that they are mocking and making fun of black people. A 2 min lecture isn't gonna change how they treat the next black person they see, let's be foreal.

I feel like a lot of black ppl are avoidant of smacking ppl's hands away from their hair. I see the "without permission, they touched my hair" and I keep looking for the part where y'all say "and I slapped their hand away"

Why is wearing an Afro head used a comedy. Why not other types of hair. Not feeling that at all. We as black people sometimes are too quick to explain or excuse others bigoted and prejudicial behavior away just to make us feel better or accepting of them.

I like that you brought up perceptions of Afro hair in black spaces too like your home country! It reminds me of my family's home country (Jamaica), a lot of people there think there's some big reason I'm natural and wear my afro out regularly instead of straightening it or wearing wigs.

Japan is a lot different than many places because the population is predominantly Japanese. A lot of Japanese people have never been exposed to other races and cultures from every nation. This is mostly curiosity and Awe. To make the decision to live in a country such as Japan, it is very expectant to experience looks that could make one feel not to good. Just remember there’s nothing wrong with you, you’re in a foreign country and should expect this.

I'm white and I have textured, very wavy hair (actually frizzy) and I straighten my hair because it just doesn't lay properly if I don't. Plus, I think when I leave it natural, it makes me look like a crazy bag lady. When I lived in the middle east, I had Indian men constantly sneaking pictures of me when I was shopping or in a coffee shop with my husband. They would even crowd around my side of the car at stop lights to have a closer look. At first it really bothered me until I realized that I was an oddity to them. White, blue eyes, and blonde hair - an oddity. I'm an oddity - LOLOL.

It doesn't matter the location, people need to learn respect. I've been through it in Cairo, Egypt even though it looks like I could blend in. Apparently not. It's everywhere and it comes from ignorance. People are not dumb.. they are just rude. No manners.

Her dog is beautiful I don’t think that’s an insult I think it’s more of a observation a lot of dogs have hair like humans and some dogs look like certain humans and her dog was beautiful so I don’t know what it is to be offended about our hair is different from everybody else is here so it’s not offensive for someone to look at it we are the majority but not in the west and our hair is quite beautiful I would look at it to
