How do these compare in quality to the Suizan that are well regarded?

Z-saw/Zetsaw/Okada (goes by various names) are kinda the go-to for work. Suizan has done more english influencer stuff, and is better known in the west. Heck, a good distributor of Z-saw has various Katabas for different woods and plunge action. Suizan has one Kataba.

Your movement is keeping the occidental way. It cut by pulling not pushing

That and sightline needs to be kept facing you. For readers, cut diagonally down your side, then you move or flip the workpiece and come down diagonally the other face. The end rake is meant to meet the two cuts and clean out the center.
