Baumkuchen is very popular in Japan, because Karl Juchheim a German prisoner of war during WWI was sent to internment camps in Japan, then opened a German pastry shop in Japan.
@necochan886 жыл бұрын
The name "Baumkuchen" refers to the many layers you see, when you cut it. They look like the annual rings of a tree. Hence the name: Baumkuchen = Treecake

Guys these are not street food but more higher-end stuff, especially the Baumkuchen (it’s not multi-layered butter cake but it’s multi-layered tree cake..). We mostly love to buy the Baumkuchen in high-end department store deli section, never the supermarket and we buy them as a gift as they’re usually expensive ($20 for a small piece) or for a treat and splurge for the weekend to enjoy with a family with a cup of coffee. And the Manneken waffles (the famous Belgian waffles), they’re to die for. The best waffles I’ve had in my life and I’ve lived in so many countries, but these waffles are the best and most fresh tasting waffles of all time!! They’re so buttery, melt in your mouth goodness I almost fell out of chair the first time I had it when I came back from Canada in my early 30s. They’ve been around for ages and they’re traditional high end shops because the quality of their sweets are excellent! Try them when you’re in Tokyo, especially the waffles. You would need to sit down for the waffles they’re so good! 🤣

Flour, sugar, eggs, milk, butter, vanilla, salt & yeast - BOOM! Waffles! For around $10 you can make about 50 waffles. Of course, you need a waffle iron, they're cheap and even cheaper at a thrift store. Master one recipe like waffles and go from there, soon you'll be eating good food and not spending much to do it. One cool thing about waffles is you can make a bunch and freeze them.
