Meanwhile in Japanese: you become rude by using the wrong grammar (or the wrong word), resulting in you being either overly polite with your friends, or too casual with your boss...
@mapl3mage
@mapl3mage 2 жыл бұрын
You can actually be very rude even when you think you are being polite. For example, if you're at work answering a phone call from a business client and you can't hear the other person well. If you say すみません、もう少し大きな声でお願いできますか。it seems fairly polite on the surface. but because it implies that the reason you can't hear well is because of the other person, hence putting blame on the other person, it's rude and can potentially make you lose business with them. Instead, the correct way of handling this is by saying something like すみません、電話が少々遠いのようで、もう一度お願いできますか。 which puts the blame on the phone system instead.

The video is perfect, yes. I may be wrong but, I feel like here, Sora is also giving us a message. So, the people who understands these phrases and laugh, are obviously fluent in English or can understand English. So it's impossible for them to make this kind of mistakes in English. But, they may make mistakes in other languages. For an example, people who love anime or K-pop or something like that, may tend to use phrases and the words they learned there , because they adore that culture, language and everything. I have done it. But when we do so, if we don't know how to use those expressions correctly, the natives might feel awkward. I feel like Sora is telling us to know well, before using the phrases of other languages we grabbed from somewhere. I learned a good lesson and laughed a lot too. Thank you Sora for this amazing video! You are the best!

L337, there's this thing that some people from Korea often do: they put the "ee" sound ("33" sound? lol) after some words. The result is that in English they sound adorable. You'd never want to accidentally offend someone, and it can be very difficult not to smile at the cuteness. It's very challenging in business situations.😊
