@Tony Dinh Sorry dude... I actually own Chinese made firearms and they are definitely NOT shit. I also own a lot of Chinese made studio audio equipment and again, they are not shit and made increasingly to higher standards every year. QC is something that many Chinese industries are beginning to truly grasp especially when it comes to military hardware and hi-tech equipment. I also think that's bullshit that you saw a wheel come off. Any armored vehicle requires a number of restraining bolts on that wheel to keep it on. The chances of a failure of all of those bolts is very low if not next to impossible unless an entire mount is sheared off somehow on a huge rock or piece of concrete. BTW I served in the U.S. Army and have helped service a wide range of military vehicles out in the field. So I understand typical wear and tear on military vehicles and points of failure.

The Type 10 isn't intended to replace the Type 90, but supplement the older tank and replace the Type 74. The Type 90 will continue to serve for the foreseeable future because of the high cost of the Type 10 (the same issue that plagued the Type 90 program, and the reason for the Type 74's long service life). I'm glad you pointed these facts out. Most people tend to overlook them, like so much about the JGSDF. Keep up the great work.

As the Type 90 will probably never need to enter actual combat unless the home islands are invaded, I thynk that it will jave a huge "home Court" advantage against even the Armata or Leopsrd 2 plus variants. I can even imagine both the Type 90 and T 10 working together to double team any adversary. In addition, any country tat invades Japan will have to keep in mind that they only know as mich of Japanese Defense Tech as the JSDF is willing to show or admit to. Any still hiffen, but already developed tech will naturally come as a nasty surprise.

You know what is kinda hilarious? When I was like 12y/o I started reading the _Neon Genesis Evangelion_ Manga where the Type 74 still have some decent screen time. Somewhat later/parallel to this there was also the original Anime series where the then Type 90 had its introduction and now there's the, I think, 13y ongoing _Rebuild of Evangelion_ going on that started with the Type 90 and by now has introduced the Type 10. That show is taking too fuckin' long to come to a conclusion... But hey! 2020 appears to be the release date of the final movie soo... On a side note... Has Matsimus ever started a video with something like: _"What a piece of garbage!"_ instead of _"What a beast of a Tank"_ or _"What a glorious piece of tech!"_ ?

Type-90 was not intended to replace Type-74, it was designed for Hokkaido, the least mountainous island of Japan. Therefore Type 90 are only deployed at Hokkaido (besides some army school units), while around 170 Type-74 are still in service. was a good if not great tank in the 90s, modern gun with modern round, modern fcs with commanders panoramic sight, thermal gunners sight and hunter killer capability, composite armor, laser warning receiver (automatically triggering smoke dischurgers, thus technically an soft kill system), hydropneumatic suspension and the best power to weight ratio of all western mbts at this time. Just great. The problem is: up to this day, it is stuck in the early 90s. It didn't receive any extensive upgrades. No commanders thermal viewer, no really up to date battle management system, no add on armor, no L/55 gun and no modern rounds either. Type 90 are still equipped with JM33 APFSDS (license produced DM33) and JM12A1 heat (license produced DM12A1). The latter is intended to act as a multi purpose round to be used against light armored vehicles, infantry and so on, but Germany has phased out the Heat munitions in favor of HE rounds. More problematic is the JM33, introduced in 1987 the DM33 was a good round and is used all over the world, but it's penetration is nowadays really lacking. The reason for the lack of upgrades may be the focus of the jsdf to improve their air force and naval capabilities as well as the the higher priority of protecting the whole mainland instead of Hokkaido after the collapse of the UdSSR (which means that procurement of Type-10 would be more important than upgrading Type-90). By 2028 the jsdf wants to have reduced the number of tanks from 600 to just 300. That means that not only the remaining Type-74 are going to be phased out, but a huge number of the 341 Type-90 as well.

It's interesting looking at the Japanese procurement process, in many ways it seems so backwards. They spread out unit production over such long periods and make the thing costs two or three times more as a result. You said the same thing about the Type 89 IFV and as a result it costs more than the best IFV's out there but for dated equipment. Crazy! Let's hope they don't screw up the Type 10 and Type 16 MCV as bad. If they just build their required numbers in one or two batches (instead of over a decade or more) unit cost would be lower and they'd be able to buy MORE for the same financial cost. Speaking of which, Type 16 MCV or Type 75 soon Matt? The Type 75 in particular has so many variants it would be an interesting video, the MLRS and SPH are pretty cool vehicles :).
@benlex56724 жыл бұрын
The main problem of the type-90 for Japan is it’s way too heavy, which is why Type-10 was designed right after the type-90 entered service. Japan needed a Calvary tank to flank around while the type-90 takes the role of holding off enemy frontal attacks, thus why the Type-10 have such a low weight.
