Hi Miku, Thanks for all of your videos, you and your friends have helped me a lot with listening and speaking. It can be a bit difficult getting around in Japan without a good level of the language, but each day I'm getting a bit better 😂 Btw this topic is great, I feel like many people are being disconnected from nature, your conversation is a good way to help people connect again. Thanks you 2 ❤👌

English speakers also have a phrase to express the same thing as "komorebi," despite what many internet users seem to think. In English, we use "dappled sunlight." Dappled means spotted, but we mostly use it to describe horses or sunlight (we don't use it to describe, for example, clothes or people with freckles). I don't know why dappled is only used for those things, but "dappled sunlight" is actually a pretty common phrase for people who do outdoors/nature activities - just like "komorebi" would be for a conversation in Japanese about nature.

Huh, I’m 33 and I’ve never heard that phrase, or I heard it and didn’t know what it meant haha. Granted I’m not a very outdoorsy person. Neat!

You're definitely not alone - there are plenty of YT videos of English-speakers claiming there's no equivalent English word for "komorebi." But also on YT, you can actually watch lots of recent gardening videos that use "dappled." Lots of old school poetry used "dappled" - works by poets like Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost that use the word. (But no judgment if you fell asleep in Lit class!)

Very helpful thanks! Prepping for a month in Japan. I lived there and studied NIHONGO deeply for about 2 years (2011-2012) so this is at a perfect level to start dipping back in to it.

みく先生、この動画とチャンネルの全部をありがとうございました。勉強でよく使います。Here are a few English words for ”rain" (besides the word "drizzle" that you added on screen yourself): squall (meaning a violent rain traveling fast over sea or land - probably the closest translation to 月時雨), shower (brief rainfall), sprinkles (just a little bit of rain), downpour (heavy rain), deluge (extremely heavy/long lasting rain). Not 400 certainly. It's worth noting that while most civilizations started with agriculture and a strong dependency on favorable weather for their survival, Japan has more rainfall than most densely populated countries. So perhaps it has more expressions about rain not because it needs the rain more, but possibly it actually gets more of it?

Drizzling, spitting, pouring, raining cats and dogs, really coming down, scotch mist - more often we use verbs not nouns or adverbs to describe rain. (And a few rude expressions.) Canadians also talk about weather a lot. Anyway, great discussion and perfect level for me. Challenging but doable. Thanks!

数週間の前も私の聴解は良くないけど、たくさん日本語でビデオし、シリーズし、を分かるかどうか見ていった。今多く知らない語彙がなかったら多い会話を分かる、そしてこのテキストは正しいかどうか知らないけど、とにかく書く。頑張って👍🏻 For a few weeks my listening skill was bad too but then I started to watch japanese videos and series wether or not I understand them. Now I understand much conversations when they don't have too much vocabulary that I don't know and if this text is correct or not I don't know but I write it anyway. がんばって👍🏻。

Miku san, can you please upload some conversations where you don't put up so much english on screen? It makes it kind of difficult to focus on what you're saying because my brain always reads the english even if I know the words in Japanese. Thanks!
