I listen to Misa's videos in the background of other tasks I am performing. I Didnt think it was working for me until I watched an old TOHO Kaiju movie that wasn't English dubbed. Turns out I know more words and phrases than I thought. My problem is recalling these words and phrases on my own and reciting them. Thanks Misa.

Actually I passed the N3 without knowing this nuance… but really glad that I watched this as it has always been one of those things that bothered me whenever I would come across these phrases. Feels good to have a solid understanding of it now. Thank you for making this video. Super clear now.

Where I live in Australia at the moment the people collecting the rubbish sometimes check whether you put things in the correct bin, and will leave a card to tell you if you made a mistake. It might be silly, but I always feel happy and proud when I see the green smiley face that says we did it correctly lol, like a kid getting a sticker for doing good work

Just for those wanting some information. I'm black Canadian/Caribbean/Trini. In all of the black people's houses that I have ever been in Canada, in the Caribbean and the USA, we all take off our shoes at the door. To me, this is not a cultural difference, however, it is just dirty if you don't take your show off at the door.

This was so helpful! I've been going crazy trying to figure out the differences between ことにする, ことになる, and ようにする. I do have a question. What if the subject of the sentence is not the speaker? Can I say みさ先生はカナダに行くことにした to mean "Professor Misa decided to go to Canada"? Do the same rules about ことにする and ことになる apply?

みさ先生!質問あります。トランスジェンダの人として、よくある言うこと「I decided Transitioned to female last year.」という表現使います。それが「男性から女性になること」といういみですが、そのようで「去年女性になることにした」とはあっているでしょうか?ちょっと悩んでいます。
@zeroimpact742
@zeroimpact742 2 жыл бұрын
In that case, your true intentions are not clearly communicated to others and you will probably be asked like, "Are you getting sex‐change operation?" If so, it is clearer to say from the beginning, 私は去年、性転換して(性転換手術を受けて)女性になることにしました.

One of the things I often struggle with in Japanese is that patterns like this where you're talking about yourself can't be used or must be modified when you're talking about someone else. Can we use this pattern to say someone else decided / makes a habit of, or it was decided that someone else would do something?
