Showing them doing what every food facility does (washing hands and disinfecting) makes me wonder if this is not just a show??? Why else focus on it? Come on this is a given!!! And nothing to do with them making meals!!!!!!

The rest of the world has so much to learn from Japan. I'm European and have distinct memories of the foods we were served in school growing up and it doesn't even come close to this. It was more common than not to discover bugs, dirt, rocks, even glass in our food. Even the preparation was lacking. I remember being served food such as hamburger steaks that were burnt on one side, raw and frozen on the other side and just right in the middle (they'd just line them up on a tray and cook them in an oven without flipping them even once to make sure they were evenly cooked). I now live in Japan and am pregnant with my first child. It makes me glad to see that this is the kind of effort and care that is being put into the food that my daughter will one day be eating in school. Thank you so much for your hard work.🙏

Your students are very blessed to have you as their cooks! Efficient, fast, and happy, too! My Mother would say the joy gets into the food.

I love how much respect these people have for the children and in a way their job. I love how clean the food is and how it's prepared. Here in India 🇮🇳, I see street vendors and get nauseous just by looking at how it's prepared and servered. Watching lots of Japanese street food made me realise poverty is not an excuse for poor hygiene. Hats off to you guys.

Japanese students have no idea or maybe they do on how lucky they are to get meals like this. In the United States not everyone adheres to a cleanliness goal which is very disappointing. People who dislike their job will do jobs poorly as well as if the job’s pay isn’t good. The amount of cleanliness and care that goes into these lunches is amazing and shocking. I only wish the younger me got to experience this. Now our meals weren’t bad but there is definitely room for improvement.

You left the part out where prisoners are fed higher quality food than children in public schools. My favorite part was the kitchen staff being entirely illegal aliens that did not speak English.

I grew up in Japan and this lunch here is rather simple. I guess my public school was funded well, but we usually had two more small dishes on top of these, with a calendar that lists the dishes that were planned to be served every single day of the month, with nutritional facts and educational facts about eating healthy. Kids look forward to lunch each day so they look at the calendar a lot, which helped normalize the concept of healthy eating habits. I moved to North America as an adult and learned how amazing that was.

This shows the priority of the government in Japan. The US government would rather allow children to starve at school to punish their parents for being poor. And the food they serve is slop, filled with preservatives and sodium. Michele Obama tried, but the states are constant fighting to overturn the nutrition regulations in the name of profit.

It's so sad to know America falls so far behind Japan in this aspect, our school lunches are terrible!!! Ask any student and they will say the same thing.

I wonder if American kids would even touch any of that. "Oh, stinky green vegetables!" I LOVED asparagus as a kid, just lightly cooked and seasoned.

American school lunches are health concerns. Some of the food on the menu is questionable. Then, kids cross the road for burger joints and soda bars. It's no mystery to why diabetes and other health problems plague our population 🤔 I can understand once in a blue moon, but weekly for some, daily for the majority? Yikes.

I loved it when they lady mentioned that they couldn't hear the kids or get a thank you. Made me think back to all my wonderful "lunch ladies" over the years in school. And then she says the students write them letters and that made me so happy, haha. That's so nice to see!
The amount of onion they put in that beef dish was nuts. I remember getting a Japanese curry roux, and the recipe said to use like 2 or 3 big onions, i cut it down to 1/2 of an onion and is just right. The Japanese obviously like their onions. Everything looked great thou, a million times better than the shite they served up in my English school back in the 1970's.

That looks soooo yummy. I´m glad that I was in a german school were nuns prepared the lunch and we got at most days: Soup, Main Dish and a Dessert - only on Fridays we got some sweet main course so there was no Dessert. It was sooo delicious and I feel so bad for other students - it was really a cultureshock when I graduated and needed to eat in a common Mensa afterwards. It broke a bit my heart when i was surfing the internet and saw that my old school had no longer a "Klosterküche" (monastery kitchen) as I remembered all my favorite dishes during the years. Good food is so important for growing up healthy and motivation. Thank you for your important job

The meal they prepared looked very delicious and nutritious they put a lot of care in making it and the cleanliness is spectacular America should really take notes and strive to provide school lunches like this here instead of all that processed foods and low quality
It is like they are making food for the Emperor. I remember getting food in the 80's from our school canteen and some of the staff would be smoking cigarettes.

Lunch ladies,Janitors, and Teachers in my opinion don’t get enough credit here in the U.S. They work so hard. I wonder how the Japanese feel about lunch ladies, janitors . Then again the children to my understanding help keep the school clean 🤔 I’m also pretty sure they respect teachers…. 🤔 And wow that is super clean. Growing up our lunch ladies washed their hands and wore hair nets that’s it 😅 But I still loved them they were very kind ❤ I have question what happens if a child’s family afford to pay for their child’s lunch? And let’s groceries at home as well….
