There's a magic that happens between Mark and his Guitar. It cannot be duplicated. From all the hours I lay on my bed when I started listening to these guys back in 1978 when I was 10, to today when I sit here at my desk working on a project while I tell my own 11 year old, with a little water in my eyes, what this band means to me, that indescribable feeling that I get when I listen to them is ever the same. A metal fan I will always be. But nothing compares to a good stack of Dire Straights on a long night.

I wished I could have been around during the prime time of Dire Straits, but I was born in 2001. I listen to them literally everyday and just saw Knopfler perform in September. Songs like tunnel of love and telegraph road put me in a state of awe at the level of emotion/passion he conveys through the guitar. Never heard anything like it!

@@kmcel190 also one of my favourite songs and I know What you mean and feel i think.. this is also a song i listened thousands of time.. he is talking about a man committed suiced after a depressed live included drugs, alcohol and i think also about an abusive childhood. What is your opinion? Greetings, KumarMusic

Damn right. Its magic. So simpel, so underproduced, but such a delight. So glad I got introduced to the Dire Straits at the age of 12, now 38. It was my friends fathers favorite band, and he always said: good music must be played loud. Awesome memory. Its been my fav. band since. Ofcourse one starts out with the known ever greens, but there is soo much more. Like this one. Mark and his Fender is just plain magic and its gives me goosebumbs and watery eyes more often than not

I loved this album. It was like almost 40 years ago. Loved this song - And this album a lot! Listened to it over and over again, torn out two casette tapes, one LP and got the CD. About 30 years ago I got a son. A couple of years ago he had a friend with a motorbike. He got the license too. And a motorbike, top speed almost 300 km/h. Then they went on a ride together. And crashed into eachother. My son is OK, his friend died. Leaving his wife and two small children behind all alone. He made a line in the news...

The subject of “News” (1979) by Mark Knopfler is not in the least obvious, since the reference to a man climbing onto a horse can easily be misconstrued. The 4 minutes 14 seconds long song is actually about a motorcyclist who is killed in a road accident. It is somewhat similar to Elton John’s “Song For Guy” (1978), a tribute to a record company messenger who lost his life in a road crash. 💙🎶💚
