@skuzzyj3 жыл бұрын
Same. Grabbed it for $3, maybe $4 for the 360, got a case of beer, and me and a buddy fired it up and spent the next couple hours laughing our asses off. This was the time period where me and my friends would go to GameStop and spend $20 on four or five 360/PS3 era games we found because it was cheaper and more fun than going to the movies, the Xbone had just come out so all the previous gen inventory was getting basically given away, and I had my home theater setup with a projector firing at a 10' screen, which none of these games deserved. Played a lot of _BAD_ stuff, started to play some worse stuff and left it alone, never to be touched again (Shellshock 2, I'm looking at you); and then found some nuggets of fools gold like this absolute trainwreck. Fun times. This game was super, crazy ambitious at the start and then they scrapped the whole damn thing because it was so broken, and hired this dev team to basically rewrite the whole thing, and shit the game out in 6 months. It shows.

The biggest loss in all this was the original game that was being built. A 4 player open world campaign behind enemy lines that was essentially a more serious take on the "conflict Series" with survival elements. At the time the publisher couldn't fathom why anyone would want to manage survival elements in a military shooter. Only a few years later DayZ and forks of DayZ took over the gaming landscape. The tiled randomly generated Multiplayer was also ahead of it's time.

I've worked with Rebellion a little in the past, and knowing their sense of humour I've got a guess about how this game got the atmosphere it has. afaik this was one of *two* games developed by Rebellion's then-recent Derby branch, which was in fact, the remnants of Core Design, the original developers of the Tomb Raider franchise. Eidos chose to cut their losses with this studio after the critical and commercial bomb that was Tomb Raider The Angel of Darkness and sold them to Rebellion who was trying to expand, but in turn, that meant a mass exodus of talent, an unqualified junior staff who had no experience in HD development, and extremely tight deadlines to even get two games out of the door. Those two being Shellshock 2 and Rogue Warrior. The last of the old guard at Core understandably despised this experience and chose to get out of the game industry after Rebellion chose to shut it down entirely following this game. It's a total tragedy.
