Currently, the Sri Lankan team is, by far, the second-best in Asia in Test cricket, ahead of both Pakistan and Bangladesh. Historically, the country’s biggest cricketing issue wasn’t a lack of talent or performance, but rather its corrupt, politically influenced board. For decades, this mismanagement derailed Sri Lanka from maintaining its status as a cricketing powerhouse. However, since the ICC imposed a ban in December 2023 due to political interference, there has been a significant shift in the system. This transformation is now evident in Sri Lanka’s on-field performances, with notable highlights including a victory over a formidable Indian team in an ODI series, a comfortable Test series win over Bangladesh, defeating England in England after a decade, and whitewashing a strong New Zealand side. Not to mention, the women’s team winning the Asia Cup has significantly boosted Sri Lankan women's cricket as well. Sri Lankan cricket has made great strides by backing players like Kamindu Mendis, Dunith Wellalage, and Pathum Nissanka, showcasing what can be achieved when talent is given proper support and opportunities. There are still several gems in the domestic circuit poised to make a major impact. A few names to watch include Pasindu Sooriyabandara (Test), Pavan Rathnayake (Test & ODI), Vijayakanth Viyaskanth (T20 & ODI), Kamil Mishara (ODI), Chamindu Wickramasinghe (ODI/T20), Tharindu Rathnayake (Test), Nimesh Vimukthi (Test), Nuwanidu Fernando (ODI), and Mohamed Shiraz (ODI). Under the leadership of new chairman Upul Tharanga and coach Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lankan cricket is set to make significant progress in the coming year. With the appointment of a corruption-free government, I’m hopeful these players will get the chance to shine on the national stage, and we could see the resurgence of the Sri Lankan team sooner than expected.

As good as the batting is, Asitha Fernando is an underrated player in that lineup. He's quite young still but is hugely skilled with the ball and can bowl decent pace. I see him as their best Test pace prospect in a very long time.

Sri lnakan team is lot stronger now than last tme and Sri Lanka is clearly the favourite to win that series. I think most of the credit should go to DDS and Sanath Jayasuriya. Sri Lanka like Pakistan plays inspired cricket when they have great captains. and Sanath has been picking the right players. I still don't get how Kamindu took so long to break into the team. but it probably is for the best. under previous management he probably would have been discarded by now.

At 22 both Kamindu and Pathum had better stats than Kumar, I for one twitted in, at that time to the coach. If you look at the FC records (this is the best way to gauge any potential for Tests), the conversion rates are better than that of Kumar hence they are probably the best two batters ever produced by SL, at least statistically, but they are proving that day by day nowadays.

That’s a lie Dananjaya just turned 33 and he has good 4,5 years left in him no need to think about replacing him. Dimuth and Chandimas look good at least for 2 more years mathews is the only imminent retirement. I think there a enough talent coming through to replace him infact there already pressure to drop him

Very happy that wider cricketing world is now taking note of our recent build. This improvement didn't happen overnight, although Kamindu's meteoric rise feels like it has lol. Consistency is one thing lacking with both the batting unit and the bowling unit though. Hopefully the new batting order; Chandimal at 3, Kamindu at 5, Kusal at 7, can bring that consistency and avert the collapses. All 3 batters made centuries at their new positions this series. For our fast bowlers the key is that they stay fit, as Jarrod mentioned they are very injury prone.

Afghanistan toured SL recently & was thoroughly beaten by SL. SL just won a test in England out of 3 with 1 warmup. I dont think you have considered this list properly at all.
