The bowling issue has snowballed over the last decade as a result of many things: 1) youngsters neglecting domestic cricket and showing more interest in league cricket aka the easy way out and a quick paycheck. 2) dead pitches in domestic injuring young players and leading to many matches with no result. 3) PCB barely scheduling any tests, however it is becoming more and more difficult for non-Big 3 teams. 4) Bad injury and load management for injured players like Shaheen, Naseem, Hasnain, Jamal, Dahani etc. 5) Imran Khan's decision to abolish the old domestic setup and introduce a 6-team system like Australia lead to 100s if not 1000s of domestic hopefuls not being able to play, which has now lead to a very dry talent pool. Now that the old domestic system has been reinstated, fans will just have to wait for young talent to reveal itself again, as the current crop has rotted. Fortunately, it won't be long before a new wave of cricketers emerge, however the question is, will they even prioritize Red Ball?
@arnabiitmphyАй бұрын
Add Ehsanullah as well to the list of injured fast bowlers. Was really impressive in the PSL when he emerged. But haven't seen him since then. I have heard his injury was managed very poorly as well by PCB, with doctors doing wrong treatment, and making it even worse. This is just PCB doing PCB things. What a great young talent this lad Ehsanullah is. I hope he returns back completely fit with the same tearaway pace he was bowling earlier. The cricket world needs more genuine quick bowlers. I have been really impressed by Hasnain's bowling in the champion's cup, he seems to have improved a lot with his accuracy, and he always had pace.

You need high pace to take wickets in Pakistan because of flat pitches. Loss of pace is the reason why they have been unsuccessful in the past few years. High pace is not necessary in other conditions where pitch is suited for bolwers or climate is pace friendly. This explains why Pakistani pacers have been doing fine in Away tests but not in Home tests.

Its absolutely the home wickets. Sure they can bowl away and other teams can bowl in Pakistan, but Pakistan's batting in current day really struggles as well when they travel. However, the stocks coming through in Pakistan really arent at the level where they would want to be as far as bowling. I think and this is an oversimplication, but T20 cricket has caused the bowlers to become less creative in Pakistan for the longer format, compared to other conditions where bowlers tend to find it easier to switch formats but bowlers are probably favouring T20 and because of that they have less time to experiment with conjuring mystery in the flat conditions. But lets be real, even the first year back when South Africa toured Pakistan, the pitches were less flat than they have become since after that series.

The worst. It was a hard watch at the best of times for ICT fans but it’s also why Gavaskar and Tendulkar got the god status and attention that they did. The game hinged on their shoulders quite literally. TV stations could probably show the brutal stats of how fast people turned off once those guys got out. Fast bowling used to be a joke of some kind to throw at the ICT. We’d have gloried medium pacers for fast bowler and it was a joke. That only begun to change under Ganguly captaincy and recently under Kohli fast bowling was given another boost and now the whole team is reaping the rewards from it.

The thing I loved about Pakistan cricket growing up was they were the "coolest" team, out of all the subcontinent teams, due to their fast bowling, while other subcontinent teams relied mostly on spinners to get wickets. Pak's fast bowlers would match any of the top "western" teams be it Australia, South Africa, England or West Indies. Pak's fast bowlers not only used to be great, they were genuinely quick too, like rapid. Ricky Ponting was the best Australian batter from late 90s till mid 2000s, and the best player of fast bowling in his era. There is a KZbin video of even Ponting struggling against the pace of Shoaib Akhtar and eventually getting bowled out to a straight ball playing across the line, beaten for pace. That's how good Pak fast bowlers used to be. Mathew Hayden had absolutely no clue against Shoaib Akhtar getting hit multiple times during the early part of his career during the late 90s. And these are some great Aussie batters I am talking about, who have grown up playing genuine quick bowlers on fast bouncy pitches.

Yes i agree there's a problem with Pakistani bowlers, reasons, rushing back after injuries or they aren't serious anymore or they think they have alr done a lot in their careers as they are set in their lifes, play leagues around the world, smth like WI, going after money. But on the point that overseas bowlers have fared better than Pak bowlers at home, it is probably due to Pakistan's batting. We all have seen the road tracks in Pakistan, it doesn't do anything even on the 5th day. So Aus, Eng, they play sensibly, don't play rash shots.. whereas Pakistan, they all have weaknesses which they aren't covering and its resulting in their loss, more like gifting wickets to opposition. E.g Babar, out of form + going for balls that aren't there. Saud Shakeel, struggles when a bowler starts bowling around 140+. Abdullah, just seems to fall over, resulting in LBW mostly. Shan Masood, although he's tried to be more aggressive, but almost always falls while playing the cut shot. So its not like Pakistani bowlers have downgraded, equally Pak batsman are at fault too, you can't gift wickets to opposition on batting tracks. Now see the tour of Aus, Pakistan could have won 2 matches had our batting be a bit more responsible. Khurram, Mir Hamza, Jamal they tried their best. But the batting side let them down. Now also the fact that Pakistan isn't rewarding the players that deserve to be here. Shaheen, Naseem, Rauf, they don't even play first class cricket, maybe once in a blue moon. So they aren't prepared for such challenges, as they are alr accustomed to playing white ball cricket. The only positive thing in test format for Pakistan are the players from domestic circuit i.e Khurram, Agha, Hamza, Saud hasn't hit his potential yet but played well in SL, even M.Ali bowled well so far, he doesn't have the wickets to show but he's consistent and that's what you need in test cricket. Can't really blame Abrar bcz the pitches haven't been easy to him. For red ball, they should get their domestic performers in and get Babar, Shaheen, Naseem out and get Kamran Ghulam, M Ali in. They got Abbas here..Wasim Jr has performed whenever he has got the chance, till then they have to groom Kashif Ali, Ali Raza, Mohammad Shehzad from U-19..Ali Zaryab, Saad Khan, Azan Awais, Usman Salahuddin, Mubasir Khan especially, the players are there in domestic its just that they aren't getting the chance.
