Jarrod, just wanna say thanks for your website, I was able to save $902 on my Lenovo 7i 2023 with 4080 and 32gb of ram. I paid 2195 for it and the laptop came in yesterday, love it so far, much quieter than my desktop I7-5960x on rtx 2080ti running AIO cooler!

I just got my 4080 Lp7i two days ago and I'm really enjoying it. Previously, I've had bad experiences with cpu thermals on my last laptop (predator helios 300 with 8th gen intel and 1060) and the Lp7i has the best cooling and temps of all 40 series laptops. The throttling he describes makes me positive the Lp7i was the right choice. Plus the Vantage software is so feature rich. Everything about the laptop just feels so complete, thought out, and easy to use compared to anything I've had. And Lenovos extended warrantys are so cheap and cover everything. Only two downsides is the screen, which is by no means bad just not flagship level, and the keyboard could really benefit from a metal/firmer deck. My previous laptops had S and A tier Keyboards and this is a B, maybe B+. It has great travel and keystroke feel, but just needs something solid behind it for my heavy fingers. Though I tried all the laptops at microcenter (scar, strix, zephyrus, legion, and raider) and really wasn't impressed with any of the keyboards. All about the same.

I only went razer blade as I wanted the extra cores to play around with VMs, but otherwise, this would have been top of my list, especially with that screen and the power to weight ratio being so favorable. My razer blade's 4070 works like a charm, I quite like it for all my use cases (most strenuous games I'm playing are Hogwart's Legacy with DLSS enabled and world of warcraft, both at qhd). how's the thermals? does it get uncomfortably hot/loud?
@hikarisenshi4996
@hikarisenshi4996 Жыл бұрын
@@aybaws Just finished an hour's session of Honkai Star Rail - HSR (pretty graphic intensive) at highest settings (i think?) so I can answer you on this, though its all very subjective hahahaha Didn't check the actual numbers, but its quite hot to the touch at the top part of the body (basically above the F1-F12 part), but its fine because most of the time the fingers are going to be rested on the keys itself or in between the keys, it doesn't feel hot, at most warm on the keys. For the fan noise its pretty much as loud as how Jarrod tested the M16 in this review, its a bit of a sharp kind of noise, something similar to 12.35-12.37 (47-48db) portion of the video, same kind of noise at all levels just at different loudness. It can get pretty darn loud at max fan speed (tried by maxing out in manual mode) but while i'm playing HSR under optimized mode performance mode it sounds like around 47db-48db (judging based on this review), pretty standard and acceptable kind of noise I think. For comparison, gaming on Monster Hunter Rise (the first game I tried) on Max Settings 1440p 120fps capped was nowhere as warm and loud compared to HSR, probably around 60-70% max as warm. I thought it would be quite heavy on the laptop (coming from 2060) but it just felt like no sweat at all. As for normal use out of gaming, (browsing, movie, spreadsheet etc) couldn't hear any fan noise 90% of the time, minimal at most if any, and also just slightly warm to touch at most if you touch the areas out of the keyboard. This is the part where i'm the most satisfied with the G16 because my old laptop has fan noise all the time , even just by turning it on. Just to mention, one thing that happened to me was the bottom right corner of the body (where we rest our palm to the right of the touchpad) felt very warm even on idle because I installed an old, probably low quality SSD on the second SSD slot, according to crystal disk info the temperature of the SSD went up to 70'C while the stock SSD was only around 50'C. This should be the problem of the particular SSD stick because i replaced with it with another spare one i had around and didn't have that issue anymore.

@@aybaws Glad I could help, I was in a dilemma too because there isn't many reviews yet for the 2023 Zephyrus lineups, especially for the 16 inch ones. My concern was more on battery life, for the first 2023 releases it doesn't seem like there is any AMD for the Zephyrus, and I was quite skeptical for intel's battery life, as Jarrod always reminds us of it in his battery tests. But I ended up deciding to take the leap of faith for the 4000 series' frame gen and DLSS 3. I picked up one of the mobile RTX 4090 versions of this laptop and I'm really enjoying it. Regular power is more than enough to max out all of my games at over 90 FPS with low fan noise and heat (except PT Cyberpunk) and putting the full Turbo mode power on easily makes Cyberpunk PT smooth. The display is awesome (I wish it were glass covered and glossy though) and the brightness is fantastic. The HDR feature is a game changer for me, especially in Cyberpunk with Path Tracing since the differences between high and low brightness elements in the game is dramatically enhanced. Many neon elements in the game are so bright they actually hurt my eyes, which is amazing. The sound is very good too, especially coming from a Blade. The size is not too bad, but it's borderline too large for me. It is *just* portable enough, but my previous Blade was perfect. Battery life is not great, but I expected that with this generation's most powerful laptops, so meh.

How's the build quality? Aside from the lid, is the keyboard deck metal too? And how sturdy is it?
@RyneLanders
@RyneLanders Жыл бұрын
@@uzoochogu copying from some of my other posts: I think build quality wise it's decent, it feels very solid, no loose pieces or gaps or anything, but the Blade is definitely still better. The Blade, like the MacBooks or Dell XPS just feels like a single, dense, solid unit. It's very reassuring. But going from the 14" Blade (which IMHO is the perfect form factor) to the new M16, the M16 is just on the edge of good portability to me because I can just use it on the plane and it's only about half a pound heavier than the 14" Blade. The new Blades are bigger all around, so that was another consideration I weighed. So for the same price as the Blade 4080, the Zephyrus M16 is better equipped in 2 very important areas, is otherwise thinner/lighter/slightly more portable than the new Blades, and still well built and fairly minimal in design.
@RyneLanders
@RyneLanders Жыл бұрын
@@uzoochogu the keyboard deck I'm not sure about. Supposedly the main chassis is magnesium alloy, very light and rigid. The top feels like plastic, but I've read that it's a coating to achieve that and that it was changed from the 2022 model which had a soft-touch coating. No flex, but if you push extremely hard you can get some. That would be consistent with either a thin and light metal like aluminum paneling or magnesium alloy paneling, or plastic. It feels different from the plastic bottom cover, so I'm guessing mag alloy.

Soldering was so bad on my G14 2021 model that it shorted its own MB and the local distributor claimed that it was Liquid Metal repasting done by the user, when the 21 model didn’t even use Liquid Metal. It took 3 months of emailing between the distributor and ASUS to get have it returned under warranty. 2022 model had a really bad wifi chip and what was more insulting that an external wifi adapter would cause every other plugged device to USB ports to disconnect.

@@Ronaldo-se3ff you can easily brick your MB because ASUS still likes to use the metal battery release instead of a plastic one. I’ve already had a bad experience with disconnecting the battery off my 2021 G14 that ended up completely killing the board because of a notorious short at the battery connector. This is the sort of thing reviewers will never tell you.

I was really looking forward to this laptop and immediately ordered the 4090 model. However i ended up very disappointed. The 4090 provided equal - sometimes inferior - performance compared to my friends strix 4080 in terms of average FPS. The fans are very loud and don't expect to game on your lap as it gets very hot. I'm not sure if my product was defect, but it showed alot of issues such as excessive blooming on dark backgrounds (windows dark mode) and problems with starting the laptop while charging, more often then not requiring forced shutdowns. I read simular posts on reddit regarding poor quality control. I ultimately ended up returning the product.

Hi there, I need some advice on two Asus laptops. I am looking at the M16 and the Strix G18 but cannot decide which one I should go for. I am not a gamer and will be using the laptop for 3D animation and editing. The M16 has the i9 13900H cpu and the G18 has the 13980HX cpu, so the G18 is much more powerful and has the 18" screen. My biggest concern though is choosing option that is the most reliable has the best build quality as I have had endless hardware issues with my Asus Zephyrus 16 to the point where I had to return it for a refund after experiencing 4 breakdowns in only 3 months! So...I am looking for something powerful but simpler in design with less that can fail/break. I'm also not a big fan of the RGB bar lighting so a simpler design would be great, but I also don't want to sacrifice a huge jump in performance with the G18 if it justifies the higher spec. Which model can you recommend the most between Asus M16 vs Strix G18?
