Yknow, I can relate to Spamton too, kinda. And I'm not talking appearance. (okay there are some similarities, appearance wise but anyways) A few months ago I had like a month long mental breakdown. And looking back at it, I realize that my entire breakdown, surrounded the idea that I could truly never be free, that society turned its back on me, my friends and family turned their backs on me, and that I had to get back at society and that I had to gain my freedom. I had a lot of pretty dark thoughts going through my mind during that time. And my lack of sleep made it 100x worse. Me and Spamton probably would have had similar thoughts to each other. So sadly I would have related to him, mentally. Don't worry though, I'm doing a lot better now! But in the end it wasn't Friendship that saved me, it was just a little luck. My mental health got better not because of therapy, family or friends, but just because it all suddenly got better. No reason at all, it just got better somehow? My mental health improved out of nowhere. I wish Spamton was luckier. Today, I sometimes think about what would happen if I started getting unsuccessful and business went down. Personally, I have always thought the reason Kris is so upset after the Spamton fight isn't simply that he worries about not being able to cut his own strings, but rather, because he saw what happened when Spamton _did_ cut his strings: he collapsed, dead. I feel like that moment made Kris think "what if that happens to me? what if this soul controlling me is also what's keeping me alive?"

Considering Kris looks weaker whenever they take off the heart (the player soul), i think Kris is already aware they can't live without the soul even before meeting spamton, however seeing spamton collapsed/paralyzed and helpless after getting his own strings cut is just a reminder for Kris how they can't be free no matter what powers they have Hence Kris seemed to scream when picking "No" (when ralsei asks you if you're ok), Kris knows if somehow they lose connection with the soul, it'll be the end. If spamton's "death" (i mean he doesn't die really) is connected to what happens if Kris and the player soul are fully disconnected, then i call this great foreshadowing.

@@questionmark8991 (i probably shouldn't, but i can't resist) They/them is used when you cannot specify or ascertain someone’s gender. Source: Primary School. Nowadays, with the whole gender and sexual revolution, the pronouns they/them have earned an additional meaning, which is to refer to non-binary people. And in Undertale, Frisk was always referred to as "they"- does this make Frisk non-binary or demigender? No, because the fandom seems to almost universally agree Frisk is female and she/her. Just because a character is exclusively referred to as "they" doesn't canonically mean they're non-binary, unless it's expressly stated in-game- which it isn't, in DeltaRune's case. With this logic, I could also claim Kris is mute because they're a silent protagonist without any spoken dialogue- just like how some people think Link, for example, is mute because HE doesn't have any spoken dialogue, only various grunts and shouts. If you want to headcanon Kris as non-binary, that's perfectly fine- hell, that's what I headcanon. But don't claim it's *canon* that Kris is non-binary, because there are zero direct sources confirming that.

I'm glad you talked about his perseverance/determination, and how he will always be destined to fail; really interesting points that people rarely bring up when talking about Spamton. I'm also happy you talked about how real his story is. As you said, he isn't an evil leader, or a demon from an alternate universe, he's just a guy. What happened to Spamton is something that happens to a lot of people. Whilst I was expecting you to touch on this a bit, I did not expect you to go into such great detail. I'm really glad you did, as I think it's one of the most important aspects of Spamton's character, and really is the peak of Toby Fox's writing When I heard you were making a video on Spamton, I was expecting some sort of complex, far fetched theory. I was expecting that you'd come up with insane theories that nobody has ever seen before, and again, I'm glad you didn't. Spamton's story is actually very simple: He was just an Addison who got famous, and later got that fame stripped away from him. Sure, it's complex in the sense that there are a lot of missing details, and that the story given to us is very vague, but overall it's a simple, realistic story. It's so realistic it's scary And of course, this incredibly unfortunate and tragic story comes from a character who's full name is 'Spamton G Spamton' and has the most poorly drawn shop art in the game. One thing that has stood out to me is that the phone in the back of Spamton's shop is always ringing. We know that Spamton left mid-conversation the last time he spoke to the person on the phone. The pacifist ending paints a very grim picture of Spamton, the other endings also never end well. Defeating Spamton NEO through violence makes him convinced the body is able to transform into an EX form, however, the body explodes shortly after. In the snowgrave route, Kris helps Spamton not only obtain the smooth taste of NEO, but also take back what he lost to some extent. He had taken over the mansion, and nobody was gonna stop him except his only friend, who had given him everything. Spamton has helped Kris on their quest to committing atrocities by giving the party hints, as well as the very powerful Thorn Ring. Kris/The player's betrayal forces him to attempt to stop Kris from sealing away his ideal world, only to be turned into a chunk of ice by Noelle. One other approach that I think will be *very* prominent in a later chapter is a religious approach to this mentality. The themes of religion and gods are already very apparent to Deltarune, and many forms of religion contain the recurring philosophy of "god's plan / will", where the followers' actions truly do not matter because every major aspect of their life has been laid out, like a script for a movie. In the context of video game creation and the reoccuring theme of "your choices don't matter", I think Toby Fox's approach to this evangelical, hopeful, and depressing character will be super potent.

My favourite part of spamton is the shop music, despite how wacky and creepy he is, the music is melancholy. It's slow and haunting, it gives me the feeling of something lost and/or broken. It feels like it should be playing over those pictures of old, abandoned shopping centres in the liminal spaces compilations. Spamton isn't dangerous because he's powerful, because he's crazy or because he's got unique knowledge of the world; he's dangerous because he's desperate. He's so desperate for freedom that it's eroded his mind, his personality, and his morality. We obviously don't know what he was like before, maybe he's always been able and willing to hurt others, but I think the fact that he was playing by the rules for so long, not trying to cheat or swindle his way to the top, means that he was originally a decent person. If he didn't fall so hard, if someone had taken him in, given him food (do darkners need food to survive?) and shelter, maybe he'd just be bitter and depressed, but not desperate enough to encourage a mass murder just so he could use the distraction to sneak into Queen's mansion. Then again, I don't think that's the whole issue, figuring out what Spamton is trying to say is difficult but it seems he's trying to escape something greater than just poverty and societal neglect. He seems to believe that he's trapped on a much more fundamental level, and he recognises Kris as being in a similar situation. My theories are that Spamton is either trying to escape the Dark World, seeing it as a kind of prison or lesser world, and is trying to reach the Light World, which is where Lightners, who are apparently like Gods to the Darkners, reside. If the Darkners are really just meant to serve Lightners, then Spamton could see it as slavery that he needs to escape. Almost all of the other Darkners seem perfectly happy with the arrangement, or at least don't seem to think about it or care, so Spamton feels stuck in a world of happy slaves where he's the only one who wants out. If this is the case, it makes sense why Spamton doesn't seem to care about other Darkners, or even Lightners other than Kris that much. They're all blind and happily ignorant to the fundamental injustice of their existence, and trying to teach them otherwise makes them hate and ignore you. After a while, it makes sense that he'd eventually see them as barely alive, barely real. Encouraging Kris to manipulate his friend and slaughter Darkners is fine, Spamton and Kris are the only ones who 'get' it, who understand what things really are, and if everyone else refuses to see what's in front of them, then that's their fault. Alternatively, and perhaps more interestingly, Spamton could be aware of something much greater and far more terrifying than that. Something that entraps them all on a far more deeper and fundamental level. There are constant moments that give the impression that something is pulling the strings, something is making things happen for a reason and moving the world of Deltarune into a dark fate. There seems to be a constant undercurrent of impending doom. That the end is near and can't be avoided or stopped. We know about the Roaring, but that could theoretically be prevented. Things seem to be getting darker and darker, but exactly why is unknown. Obviously, Gaster, he's one possible reason. Gaster could be manipulating things behind the scenes to reach some goal, or to setup/continue an experiment. Maybe he's testing Kris (and us) and so appropriate obstacles need to be placed in our way to observe how we handle them. It would explain why Gaster would drive Jevil and Spamton insane, to provide a challenge for us to overcome. Maybe the theory that Deltarune's world was created by Gaster as an experiment is true, and driving it to ruin was always intended. Exactly what he would get from doing so is unknown and hard to figure out, but perhaps he's focusing on the Player. Clearly he is aware of the Player's unique power and influence on the world, and Deltarune is a safe way to study this strange entity and their capabilities without it affecting any other world. The Player as a outside force affecting the fictional world has been done before, but I think Deltarune is specifically calling attention to the strangeness and inherent horror of it. To the characters in Undertale and Deltarune, we are some invisible force, intelligent and sapient, that manipulates and controls aspects of their world that they can't understand. They don't truly comprehend what we are, or our motivations, or our actions. We know we're just some fat nerd playing a indie game about furries, but they only see the effects of our choices. Noelle doesn't know that Kris is being controlled by a person playing a video game, but she knows that a voice came from Kris that wasn't Kris's voice told her to keep killing and she could not disobey. I think Gaster is fascinated by the Player, and he clearly seems to know about us and how our control over the world works more than anyone else. While it could be purely out of scientific curiosity, it wouldn't be a stretch to suggest that our ability to insert ourselves into a world and inhabit it has special interest to Gaster, who may be struggling to accomplish exactly that. On the other hand, our ability to control the fate of a world and it's narrative is extremely powerful. The potential wouldn't be underestimated by someone as smart as Gaster, whether it's to allow him to save others from unavoidable fates, or to make himself into something greater than ever imagined. There are other things it could be, rather than just Gaster, but at the moment there's just not enough evidence. We still barely know anything about Gaster, whether he's got good intentions or not, his main goals, his personality, his true appearance. I'd say that most evidence seems to paint him in a bad light, I can't say that he's ever had a good impact on anything so far. Everything he does seems manipulative or so vague that any potential good is hard to find. His dialogue to us seems polite and respectful, but that wouldn't be hard to fake. If he is the one who spoke to Jevil and Spamton, then the fact they ended up insane, and seemingly abandoned in Spamton's case, makes him seem sinister and malicious. If Jevil was the only one driven insane, then I'd suggest that Gaster might have tried to explain how the world works out of good intentions, but the knowledge was too much and broke the mind of someone who couldn't handle it. Spamton seems deliberately abandoned, his rise seemed planned and his fall was either deliberate or caused by a massive lack of care about Spamton's wellbeing. It's really hard to justify Spamton's abandonment as something with good intentions, or an accident. If Gaster wasn't the one behind Jevil and Spamton, then that instantly makes everything SO much more complicated. We really don't have the evidence to explain it yet, the only option is crazy theories that really fall into absurdity. Wow I didn't think I'd type this much, I really got away from my original point. I was just gunna say that I liked how his shop music changed the tone of the scene from pure surreal comedy into a tragedy, and makes his creepiness shine through so much more due to the unsettling feeling.

When the flavor text mentions "The Audience" it's an allegory for Spamton's changing perspective on relying on others. After phone man abandons him, he's desperately looking to anyone else he perceives as a loving supporter to keep his business afloat. "Spamton begs to the audience. Spamton prays to the audience." but now that he's not successful anymore, everyone is leaving and taking their support with them. "Spamton begs the audience to stop taking the furniture out of his room." It's only after this that Spamton realizes the truth. "There is no audience."

VERY fond of your focus on the "the broad strokes of Spamton's story is a very normal and common thing in real life" angle. People get so caught up in the humor and charm of his more surface-level [QUALITY]s that the unrelenting, overwhelming tragedy of his story and its themes are often forgotten. I think Spamton's lack of friends is partly the result of coincidence, having not been given a very large amount of opportunities to make them, but I think it's mostly the result of his main character flaw: his one-mindedness. Despite his loneliness, and his apparent generosity and goodwill towards the friends he's had, Spamton does not seem to make any effort to befriend anyone who could not help his ultimate goal in some obvious tangible way. Every relationship of his that we're shown or told about (which is to say, Mike is still up in the air for my little theory) carries at least a subtext of being transactional. In every relationship, he's only ever buying or selling. Spamton only acts friendly to people who help him. People who can get him further along his chosen path. He only approaches people he wants something from, so it's fitting that once he's at the top that the world treats him the exact same way. At the end of the day, Spamton wants freedom. He wants to stand above everything, ascended to Heaven, unburdened by any limitations or obligations. Rich, powerful, unencumbered. Flying free, without strings. And I think, for the purpose of my little metaphor, that connections with others are ultimately just another type of string. One that, ultimately, at the end of it all, he would not hesitate to cut. Spamton's story is the tragedy of a society that sets people out on an impossible quest for an unattainable ideal, one that punishes their attempts to achieve it; it's the story of someone who truly believed in the [crap]italist [American] Dream and gave everything they had to achieve it. He was sold on a lie, and as a result of believing that lie he was doomed from the very beginning.

I feel like the dark fountain serves as a form of soul, BUT because those that don’t “fit” in certain dark worlds turn to stone, it can be assumed the will of the dark fountains is applied upon the darkners, so spamton could possibly be able to exist in the overworld with one.

Currently mid video, just wanted to add a few notes to Spamton's first on screen appearance: It's vaguely hinted that Spamton was stalking Kris around Cyber City, similar to Flowey in Undertale. If true, the fact that Spamton seems to recognize our puppeteering 'immedately' after meeting Kris would make sense. The introduction dumpster ally was likely a split second decision because Kris was alone for the first time since catching up with Noelle. On the more speculative side, it does seem like Spamton has a metagame awareness like sans and Ralsai, but the only clear hint at this capability is that Spamton pops out of the dumpster not specifically because Kris is passing by, but because he senses our ingame view hovering over the dumpster. However, that doesn't mean he has metagame understanding. He could have just noticed our presence overlooking Kris all the time and concluded that it's the view of the puppeteer.
@alexis_electronic2 жыл бұрын
Metagame understanding? Like sight above? Maybe not. But metagame awareness? Definitely, for sure, oh yeah. He knows not only of the Knight, but certainly of WDG. And, also, of the character trapped in the game - the one who he, "didn't hear," but knew they were talking to us, who has been in the game's debug code since Chapter One. ... and what does he think Heaven is? "The Light World"? I don't think so, as he refers to us as "LigHtnErs

i have to say, this is the most touching video ive seen to date this whole video actually managed to make me cry. i dont usually cry anymore so if this manages to bring out just even a singular tear, it just goes to show how powerful this message is what i love about spamton is that his character is so real, hes just like you and me, a man, with a dream, who tried to make it big, but he was ALWAYS doomed to fail, this man. had the will and determination of a thousand suns, he tried tried and TRIED for anything to work, after years of pure torture, abandonment, neglect and wrath. he could never get anywhere. the thing is like you mentioned, he was never harmed, nor he was helped, everyone just watched him suffer. it was merely "just business" the theme with determination is that it can get you everywhere, notice how spamton DID indeed become a big shot with the person behind the phone, but he never found his true freedom, the power to choose his own fate, he couldn't set himself free but the real thing that made me cry was "the heartbreak of lonliness" section notice how he gets far, but the moments he actually gets places is with kris, their only friend. the part where you said they were most likley willing to sacrifice themselves for spamton's plan really got to me, cuz kris really wants to help spamton. what i love is that with the sheer compassion and empathy, they were able to almost reach what spamton calls "heaven" after everything hes been thru, kris managed to get him to the biggest place he could get, by sheer compassion. kris helped spamton when no one did, everyone just idly watched him rot, as he changed and morphed into a corpse that bearly represented himself anymore, just a husk of nothing. but with kris's help, he finally was able to be happy for once the phrase "nows your chance to be a big shot" holds so much meaning, because he after all the betrayal, he was still willing to help kris to be big, to reach heaven, he truly had good intent, after how much his mind was warped and dismembered from his hardships, he just wanted them to BOTH be free. and the aftermath of spamton neo REALLY shows how far the power of friendship can actually get you. you cant defy fate, but you can find your "freedom" the part where he accepts his demise, is one of the best things to happen to him, because kris *finally put him to rest* after everything hes been thru, hes been fighting a war that was predetermined, a war he could never win, but the moment kris helped him get big and "set him free" he stops. hes satisfied. because after all that, he finally found a friend, someone who could help him, relate to him, but mostly someone who was just _willing._ spamton, after everything that happened to him, was finally put to rest, not because he gave up, but because he was _satisfied_ satisfied that *someone was with him in the dark.* i could never find my favorite character in this game, but i think i have one now truly. thank you for this video, the effort, the metaphors, the meaning, everything. truly. thank you, just note that in your toughest times, we're with you in the dark.

I get what your saying about Spamton and nobody being at fault but I still feel the Addisons are partially to blame. Sure you don't have to be freinds with everyone but they were freinds with him and left him behind out of jealousy. They know he lives in a dump and he isn't just a random stranger to them and yet they won't even try to help him out by simply being a freind. I don't know what it's like to be in the position of the addisons but they didn't do a single thing to help him. Also btw, there's no reason to believe Gaster didn't cause Spamton's insanity on purpose so if he did then he is absolutely the villain.

A thought that popped up when I was watching was with the whole concept of "You literally cannot win unless you have the aid of friends", might serve a huge purpose in future chapters. While Kris had little to no friends in the beginning, after chapter two, they gained so many friends after their adventures. If Kris never became friends with Susie and Ralsei, the player might as well been under their control for the rest of their life. Now that they do, they have the chance of freedom. On the other hand, who doesn't have any friends in this world...? You don't. No one knows of your existence except only for Kris. And most certainly, Kris doesn't see you as a friend. Also, unfortunately, Susie and Ralsei are most likely not going to be very friendly of you after learning what you have been doing with Kris. At the end of this story, unless you somehow make yourself present without malice, everyone is going to have a happy ending.... except for you, the interloper of this world.

2:52 Right off the bat, I will say this was not how he originally looked. Acid shrinks, after all. 25:07 Masterful story telling on that whole section. I actually teared up a little when Spamton gave up, and I knew the whole story already! Well done. 42:18 This is the point where I disagree. While Spamton becoming destitute and living poorly has no true villain to blame. *_Throwing a homeless, mentally ill man into an acid river, listening to his screams, begging for it to stop burning, as he slowly shrinks and deforms is incredibly cruel,_* even if he was attempting to break in. A prison would have been a much more humane and understandable punishment for trespassing. The fact that this was approved or even commanded by the Queen, and that Swatch seems to carry no particular regret for that event, is clearly inexcusable behaviour. This is worsened by the fact that it is very likely that they literally tried to do the exact same thing to Rouxls Kaard, as said by yours truly, Swatch. (Look below in the replies, I'm not requoting it) Still I agree with the rest of your point, societal neglect clearly seems to be central point Toby is trying to make, just needed to point that out, some are MUCH more to blame than others. 47:07 And so, Jaru called out the entire world for their hypocrisy and willful ignorance... including himself. 59:28 Heh, guess it explains why Kris needs Noelle's help to finish off Spamton even in the solo Snowgrave battle. 98% done through determination alone, need that push to finish them off. After being shrunk by the acid spamton seems to develop an obsession with becoming big. Not big as in a big shot, but big enough to wield physical power so that he can truly be free. Presumably spamton would be competing with Queen for power and her final form is the massive giga Queen. After becoming spamton neo he also remarks about how he is still not big enough to see past the darkness. Perhaps after being shrunk by the acid spamton forms an association of size with power because as spamton was being shrunk by the acid he was losing all success he had.

Spamton's story hits so close to home for me, desperate for any sort of companionship, any sort of control over life when you're at your lowest. The feeling that nothing matters, that one is trapped in a vicious cycle. This is such a good video, and does a wonderful job at covering these topics. Great video. A character to Spamton is so cool because of the themes, and this did not disappoint. I wonder if Spamton haven't actually truly give up, since Spamton projects a lot of himself in Kris, and after failing to, well, be [Big Shot], chose to follow Kris and make them achieve freedom, like if he can't win he will persevere now for Kris. Perhaps like a friend. This to me would be interesting, specially since Darkners are said to find meaning in the Lighteners Also, I wonder if Spamton didn't already know that Kris would be there. He had time to plan and met Kris while alone, even in Snowgrave he don't seems surprised. But I could be mistaken or forgot something

I found this to be an amazing analysis on Spamton's character! though, I found it a bit lacking in terms of what kind of freedom that Spamton was trying to get at, same with Jevil. Darkners are beings made out objects, who don't seem to know that facet of their existence, and knowing about such things would likely drive someone mad as they try to escape this realm that they're trapped in. it has a lot of parallels to how Monsters in UNDERTALE were seeking freedom from the underground, and they only achieved this by ceasing the war on humanity and start to understand each other... meanwhile, in Deltarune, as King puts it: "Your very existence goes against our own". Darkners are made from Lightner's stuff, but as it's going right now, it seems that their very existence was made to not be one that was fair or mutual, but rather one that is put in favor of the Lightners who can just completely ignore the Darkner's struggle and live their lives normally! all the while Darkners are *dependent* on Lightners. if I were to say that there was an essential aspect of this that you failed to mention, it is Ralsei's dismissal of the entire event. as you said in the video, we turn a blind eye to people in need and just say: "That was just a homeless person, it's not my responsibility to care." which was very similar to Ralsei's "he was just a corrupted program". there seems to be many of these Darkners who become aware of their existence, go mad and then are just forgotten. now, to get into THE MEATY STUFF: I believe that Ralsei is one of the people who this theme of freedom is referring to, as he seems to know a fair bit on how Darkners truly work. while Jevil has gone insane and come to the conclusion that nothing he does matters and thus "I CAN DO ANYTHING!", then Ralsei would be one that has come to the conclusion that nothing he does matters and thus "I'll just obey." rather than coming to the conclusion that nothing he does matters and trying to search for that freedom like Spamton, Ralsei is simply *complacent* with his nature and thinks of Darkners as objects to serve Lightners. I will spare you the rest of my thoughts, but if I were to guess at a new character with this sort of theme, I would go with one that is nihilistic, one that doesn't think anything they do matters and they might as well not do anything. either way, that was what I wanted to say.
@JaruJaruJ2 жыл бұрын
The actual meat and potatoes of what kind of "Freedom" it is that they want is a bit too far into theory-crafting territory, and since this video was just meant to be a narrative analysis, not a theory-crafting one, I side-stepped any questions like that for the time being. I'll definitely tackle that in future Spamton videos though! That much is for sure. Thank you for the kind words and comment. x)

i also think ralsei might be one of the freedom people. with his knowledge of the legend, the roaring and deltarune's game mechanics (aka possibly knowing that he lives in a video game), i wouldn't be surprised if he also knew about the futility of his actions. i think ralsei wanting to be kind to everyone is his reaction to knowing that his choices dont matter; he started caring more about the journey rather than the end result

At the end of ur comment. Wouldn’t that be sans? Spamton:found out he has no freedom and went insane trying to get it. Jevil:found out he has no freedom and went insane over it but decides that if he has no real choice why not do whatever you want and he freed himself from his morals. And sans:found out he has no freedom but instead of going insane he more goes into a depression and is just like “if nothing I do matters then why really put any effort into anything when it can be gone in a instant”.

@@pepperwithlegs5979 the difference between UNDERTALE's situation and Deltarune's situation is that Sans' entire existence isn't inherently made to serve another species. knowing the true nature of being a Darkner and knowing timeline stuff isn't the same thing at all!

Thanks for the video Jaru Jaru J! Just wanted to add my own Spamton theory to the mix: I always thought that the moment W.D. Gaster fell into the CORE and was scattered through time and space is the moment he was unable to help Spamton anymore. Rather, Gaster corrupted Spamton with garbage data on their last phone call, warping him into the trash zone and leaving him a crazed husk of a man. I suspect Gaster sought freedom from his shattered fate by using Spamton as a vessel for his own agenda. Both Gaster and Spamton sought Kris's soul as a further means of power and freedom. In the moment Kris encounters Spamton NEO, Gaster's head silhouette is visible before pulsating and morphing into Spamton's. This event leads me to believe that the name Spamton G. Spamton is shorthand for Spamton Gaster Spamton, a name that is a testament to their connection.

I think it was notable to mention that Spamton draws parallels to the Saw franchise which has many themes of freedom, your choices not mattering, and things going downhill by chance. Spamton's design is loosely based on Billy the Puppet’s design (created by John Kramer to be used as a avatar) and he calls dark dollars Kromer which can be interpreted as a misspelling of Kramer (aka John Kramer, the main antagonist of the movies). John Kramer could be compared to Spamton, he was a successful businessman but then many unfortunate events led to his downfall and then society rejected him, this then caused him to develop a deep depression. There are probably more comparisons but those are the ones I know from the top of my head.

Something I noticed while watching this video is that Spamton's plan of power absorption happens, but in reverse from his intention. When you defeat Jevil, you're given some of his equipment. But when you defeat Spamton, he BECOMES equipment for you to use. He wanted to absorb Kris' power but was content with letting the reverse happen because that still gives him and Kris a shot at freedom. He's visibly disappointed that his plan didn't work out, but I don't think that means he's given up hope. I think he believes that Kris is more capable than him. Since Spamton believes him and Kris are friends, it makes sense that he trusts Kris with his power. I think that if you beat Spamton NEO in chapter 2, he may pop up again in future chapters since he's now part of your inventory. After all, Lancer did the same, so why not him too?
@TheFlyfly2 жыл бұрын
slight correction 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓: the devilsknife is jevil and you get the devilsknife if you defeat him by attacking. we can visibly see him transforming into it (or becoming the devilsknife through "metamorphosis", in his own words), which is how we know it's jevil.

@@TheFlyfly We see him turn into it during battle, but when it’s given to you, he flies up and drops it. So it’s not 100% confirmed that the knife you’re given is the same one he uses in battle. You talking Spamton and perseverance made me facepalm because JUSTICE AND PERSEVERANCE IS HIS GLASSES LENS COLOURS and I feel stupid for not realizing sooner. Because my theory was/is that not only are going to see the secret bosses talk about freedon, but it will all depend on the 7 human souls meanings (if that makes sense). Like how we have the determination soul with Jevil and we had Justice with Spamton, but I didn't realize that we can have a mixure of the souls meanings just like with Sanses muti coloured eye... This was a really good video and although it’s 2 years old I have my own opinions on it and so here is a compilation of theories I found and liked in my own words with the addition of my opinion. (might be kind of messy) 1. (Why Kris yells and their connection to Spamton regarding life and fate) Kris screams at the end of the Spamton NEO fight (pacifist, not snowgrave) regardless of the player’s choice because of the emotion built up from watching someone with a similar story meet their fate. I saw an observation that involved the marbles in hospital and their text regarding which route you choose. Some ending say that the marbles marches steadily and peacefully while others say that fate is approaching and it isn’t on your side. I want to connect this, mostly the fate part, to Spamton. Kris is visibly disturbed after the encounter and here’s why. (This theory was stated above but I’m going to include it anyway) Kris is troubled with thoughts of their future. Kris isn’t in control and they know that. The same goes for Spamton. That’s why their bond was so special, so similar. They could relate to each other, empathize with one another in their struggles. Because of this, after seeing Spamton’s fate, Kris is worried. Spamton tried to break his own strings and look how he ended up. He collapsed, still, cold, and most of all, lifeless. Kris is in a similar situation. They aren’t in control of their body, they have their own “strings”. They’ve just witnessed first hand what happens when you attempt to break your strings, change your fate. You don’t win, you can’t win. A theory I have is that in the future routes and secret bosses of Deltarune, this theme of these thoughts in Kris’s head will linger. Kris is faced with an option. Live as a mindless slave who’s voice is overshadowed by an outside force that has control over their body, or die trying to challenge your fate. To live kneeling, or to die standing. This deeply disturbs Kris and causes him to yell, as it very well may be the same fate that they will face later on. 2. (The two answer choices when Kris is asked if they are ok after Susie noticed they are visually disturbed and the significance of Kris yelling ) Kris has their own opinions, such as the argument that they wanted Spamton to absorb their soul, but most are disregarded in the power of the player. When answering “Yes” to the question of Kris’s well-being after the fight with Spamton NEO, the restraint and tension in their voice from having to maintain and bottle up all of that heartfelt emotion and connection leads Kris to yell. On the contrary, when answering no, Kris is surprised. Not surprised about how they are yelling, but rather about their feelings. The player isn’t restraining them or keeping him from expressing all of that emotion. The player is allowing Kris to express themselves, and in an act of unrestrained instinct, Kris yells, unable to keep the flooding emotions from flowing into their voice. This part is brief but I feel like I should include it anyway. We, the players, never actually hear Kris’s “voice” or see their dialogue unless we are choosing it, although we can infer what was said from the responses we get. Kris’s facial expressions don’t change in game very often, giving us limited material to think of how Kris feels. These combined with the fact that Kris is one of the quietest characters in Deltarune, gives a subjective significance to Kris yelling as it shows how he feels after the experience and the sense of him almost breaking his character, as he portrays his emotions and uses his voice.

All it would take is an insane run of bad luck. Having people in your life to support you really can be the thing that holds madness off. Another comment, this one about the contrast between Spamton and Pinocchio: As someone who experienced various traumas, I appreciate that Spamton actually becomes damaged from his suffering. Too much do people who survive trauma get told we become "stronger" from it, but it's false. We survived it because we had the right people around us and because we were strong, but trauma isn't formative. Trauma damages you irreparably and the best you can do is learn from it and be there for those who live/lived through the same thing. Of course, challenges in life are good, but it's like training a muscle: if you constantly push your muscles enough to feel the burn, it'll become stronger. But force it to lift something over it's capabilties or accidentally tear it and you'll have to nurse it back to health if you're lucky, it will likely never become as strong as it could have before, and at worst you'll never be able to use it again. However, never exercise your muscle and it'll only ever be able to lift light weights.
