My problem with programs like this is that tracking itself becomes an additional task to do.

This program is very hit or miss for people with adhd. If you don’t get dopamine from doing tasks, asking someone to do more tasks in order to do the tasks you don’t want to do is a fast way to burn out on anything. Also it’s hard to gamify something if it’s a game you don’t want to play.

as someone with autism and super strong adhd and a similar game system for a few years- its really hard in the beginning but by putting reminders on alarms and sticky notes all over the house and the support of my family, it eventually became second nature!!! its harder to not start my day with a list now and its a lot easier and super fun to get stuff done! its really rewarding and totally worth it in the end trust me!!!!

Thid remonds me of an rpg website my mom had us play as kids called Chore Wars, she could design chores for our characters to attack in the form of monsters, and whenever we cpmpleted tasks the monster was defeated and we gained gold and items and could trade them in for rewards irl and eatch our characters level up (:

Building a profile page would be a plus as part of the game, even if you’re going as yourself. I attended graduate school for art therapy a year ago and building a character profile (like based on DnD) was encouraged as an activity idea to promote self esteem and self love. You can identify your strengths, quirks, weaknesses, goals, even sketch/draw a self portrait if you like to draw, etc…mostly focus on what you like about yourself and what you can do to enhance that. I love the idea of gamification with journaling. This video changed my life perspective into certain video games when doing certain tasks. For example, those point and click beauty games when doing beauty/hygiene routine, dress up games when getting dressed, webkinz when taking care of pets, guitar hero/rock band/rocksmith when practicing guitar. This is a wonderful idea!

Sounds fun. Please tell me more
@Melody-bg2wlАй бұрын
@@halley8105 In essence - breaking the skills down to what they apply to in real life - Strength being strength training, Dexterity being flexibility/acrobatic skill, Constitution = Stamina/endurance training Intelligence = studying (we're both uni students) or reading/learning during holidays, Charisma = Social activities and Wisdom = hobbies and home projects/chores. Easy activities get you 10xp, Moderate are 20xp and Hard are 50xp, and for each skill point the amount required goes up. Like Jess said though, you've gotta work out what the activities are for each point for you and what constitutes an easy/medium/hard activity. I made us both character sheets and like a weekly habit tracker we track the amount of xp gained in a day and add them up at the end of the week to add to the total.

I started to break down complex tasks into quests. They have an intro (the prep), a number of quest steps depending on the complexity, and an end boss which is the last step that finishes the damn thing. I give myself a reward point for every quest step, and for the end boss. When I have 100 reward points, I buy myself something nice.

You’ve provided me with so many useful tips and tricks plus this way of gamifying a bujo that I’m absolutely excited to expand journaling beyond my knitting journal & to make my knitting journal prettier when it comes time to start a new one. I have plans for a tracker journal, which for me is the most approachable and useful, and a reading journal. Honestly, it took you essentially giving permission for trackers to be in their own journal for a bujo to make sense for me… to feel approachable… that and the concept of a reading journal with all its fun trackers. I love to track things and I’m an absolute stats nerd (former math tutor) and total game nut. I’m already planning out my personal development categories or “skills” and have plans for a D20 chore list. I already keep a “dopamenu” so this will be a handy place for it too. I’m also thinking this will give me a better way to keep track of recipes to repeat. I always forget what I liked when it comes time to make dinner (ADHD can be a real PIA) Srsly, thank you for putting your content out there. It’s truly helped me feel like doing this is possible… it’s never felt possible before. It’s always been overwhelming to me… the idea of daily journaling… but coloring in a few boxes and tracking milestones/big events/accomplishments is doable. A few minutes a day at most… and the pages are one time art projects. No need for daily designs. I’m genuinely curious how others do these daily/weekly things. I haven’t done any sort of a daily journal since high school and it was an assignment notebook. I’ll be checking out the discord and maybe people will be showing off how they do daily journaling… or even weekly.

I am all set up for 2025 already - but I love this idea!! I would totally use a spreadsheet for it, too - hahaha, too much math/tracking otherwise!! ;) I am VERY curious if all this planning and prep actually DOES incentivize you for 2025 to Do The Things - cuz that's where I fail every time I have tried a reward system. I could see taking this gamification even further, and making sure you write your why's for each area of your skills because you want to level up to X in order to defeat something - battling the baddies of procrastination, messiness, overwhelm, etc. - but that would involve even MORE prep, and possibly world/story-building too... 🤔🤔🤔

I tried something similar to this at one point, but it fizzled out because I couldn't come up with any rewards. The social outings most other people see as easy-fun-time are just another task for me, and one of the most challenging ones at that. I also can't afford rewards in the form of physical purchases. I couldn't find any kind of dopamine release to relate to the points, so the high of getting a bigger score eventually deflated and felt pointless... Still keeping systems like this at the back of my mind in case I come up with a good tweak though

I've tried something similar, but I struggle to mentally associate actions to rewards. They feel completely separate from the task and therefore not relevant. Doing tasks to get a reward typically makes me not care about the reward by the time I earn it. I would even go as far as saying it ruins it for me. Once I decide that something is going to be a reward, I conveniently no longer even like that thing. I'm extremely talented at mental gymnastics.

If it's hard for you to do, a simple to-do day to day notebook (one per page) has worked for me for 2yrs now. Takes just a couple of minutes to plan the week or the next day, and ticking boxes

Nice video.+ I am doing that since I was a kid and happy to see another one doing that

Good luck on your quest. Thanks for sharing this.

How about if you think of a monster like a zombie for example and give it hit points and every time you do a task you take off the points obtained from completing the task off its hit points. The greater the monster, the more hit points etc.

❤ I love this so much. It is exactly what I need to be focused & manage my year & be present with all the aspects of life in 12 months. I'm going to share this with my writing groups too 😊

Extra tasks that you notice along the way could also be skills, feats, and experience that you have either gained or learned when you've levelled up as well 😄

Brilliant! This has me thinking of ways to gamify my classroom and my life! I love your content, thanks!

İ actually tried this a few years ago i felt more exhausted and anxious bc managing this added to my workload. So it seems exciting but for those want to try this my advice is to start small

A very fair piece of advice 👏 Want it to be fun, not overwhelming 👌

Are you Gary Gygax? Your exponential leveling up (rather than a flat # for every level) is cruel and diabolically effective! I love it. I mean, I'll hate it. But I love it. :D

I've been doing this and it's amazing! It's also a lot of fun. But I had to start before I got my character fleshed out, because I keep changing what I am!

This looks like fun 😊 my problem with treards is I think it had to be something like I get to buy something, while one of the things i really want to get better at is less shopping - for the planet and for my wallets sake. So I need to come up with rewards that feels rewarding and is something i dont already do regulary for fun

I love this video. Also, I could listen to your voice for relaxation for hours, even if you weren't saying actual words haha is that so creepy to say? But yeah, one more video that I love. What I like the most is taking what resonates with me and putting it together. Thanks!

I came up with something very similar two weeks ago and it's been so much fun to do it, I set up rewards and penalities (nothing too big) but it's keeping motivated to get more and more points 😂
@anndaniels4034Ай бұрын
i'm definitely doing this! yay - I might not keep track of points because i need to keep my journal simple to keep up with it. But I love the categories except i'm going to swap Spirit to Aura so they all have different initials.
@anndaniels4034Ай бұрын
okay, I just decided. it's like you are counting by XP but I'll do it by milestones so mostly the same ideas but i'll mark some of the tasks/project as a milestone to complete in order to level up. This way I can do a similar game to what you're doing, but I won't risk distracting or discouraging myself with trying to track each individual task with a number of points. :)

Heck yeah for finding a system that works for you 💪 Glad you got some ideas out of this one 😄💜

That's a great format, I tried to do something similar last year but struggled with the layout so I ended up using Habitica app instead lol I'm hoping I'll do a better job this year with you as inspiration

I don't get anything out of gamification for some reason. I feel a very weak sense of accomplishment (or none) regardless of how much I actually accomplish. I can't remember the last time I felt reward. I'm so jealous of people who feel purpose.

Wow this is so fun! I have so many ideas how to improve my productivity tracking now. I really like the idea with leveling up skills! I think I'll skip the idea about points because I don't like being graded or keeping scores though 😅 what I'll do is: having daily quests (this is my healthy routine) and big quests (these are the projects I need to complete) . I think instead of counting points, every time I complete all "daily quests" or a "big quest" I'll just paste an animal sticker on a dedicated page of my journal like I'm collecting animals in a zoo or smth. The more quests I accomplish, the more animals I would have collected. And maybe if if I collect a certain amount of animals then my character would level up. Thank you for inspiring me ❤️

oooooh, I love this! quickie quests and big quests. now i get to look for some fun animal stickers yesyesyes Oh, I could get duckling stickers, and daily quests each get a duckling behind a big Mama duck in a pond, so it's okay if they're not perfectly lined up... yesyes this could be fun!

My family and I used to have a similar system that was tied to screen time. Instead of points, we had minutes. After a week or two though, we all stopped sticking to it
