I LOVE how refreshing and honest and unapologetically Muslim you are! Like it’s so easy to condone or agree or even fall into this narrative but I love how you stand by your views as Muslim and promote the Islamic way of doing things. This is what we, the Muslim youth, need to hear, need to aspire to and it’s so inspirational! Well done on you guys for being such great role models.

As a rare perspective, my husband and I started off in a haram relationship. I was a white American Christian gone atheist using Tinder when I found my husband through Tinder. We went on a few dates and as the relationship grew, I started to do research on his middle eastern culture to learn and understand him and his family better and found Islam and converted a few months after our marriage. I got him back into praying and being more dedicated to god along with his mother and brother. I am by no means saying all haram relationships can turn good, but sometimes god works in mysterious ways. So overall, know yourself and know your partner. A good indicator is how you describe them: partner, boyfriend/girlfriend, lover, friend with benefits, etc.

To add to your perspective with my own similar story.... I met my husband at work and dated for like 4 years... Neither of us were interested in the next step until I found Islam for myself which kind of forced him to get back on the straight path. That really was the turning point...within a year of me converting I moved out (to not live in sin), we brought our parents into the mix to meet each other, and got married. Marriage wasn't part of the initial plan but once you kind of stop fighting the "right thing" the right things tend to just fall in place! Alhamdulillah for everything! Wishing everyone well!

I had a very similar experience! Grew up in an Italian Catholic household (going to Catholic school and everything) and met my now husband out one night with my girlfriends. Grew to understand more about Islam while we dated and converted right before we decided to get married. And every day we each grow in our faith, as I learn so does he and it has only brought us closer. So yes God does work in mysterious ways!!

So if you want to have a healthy serious relationship with your future one, just maturely prepare to learn from your person throughout

Also, about learning from your friends to not make the same mistakes, there's soo much content online, books to help you and prepare you for that serious halal relationship, like just look for advice on marriage on reddit lol. If they're open to talk about it, or just by observing them you can learn a lot from your parents' relationship. However, of course, you'll still be faced with your own set of challenges in your marriage, you'll fail, say things that will hurt the other but you'll learn along the way. You just need to be patient and understanding with each other, communicate honestly and just leave the rest to Allah! Love you guys :), May Allah bless you

Jasmine and Dawoud, this was such a great video and much needed discussion! I absolutely agree that these temptations are difficult to curb (most of us have experienced these things) and having these conversations, from the perspective of big bro/big sis (and without judgment, in a proper islamic manner), will help our youth immensely. I think both of your experiences are valid, as I was someone who not only learned from my own experiences (when younger and now searching for a spouse), but also from others' experiences as well (red flags to look for, types of behaviors to avoid, etc.). I think a mix of both experiences is valuable, but best to avoid things before they get deeper (great point in the vid!). Kudos to you Jasmine for knowing what you wanted! Made me reflect on past experiences and how I am dealing with relationships now. Loved this video, was so well thought out and good points!

I’m not going to lie I was tempted but I knew that if I allowed myself to do one thing that it will make doing something else so much more easier. For me the hardest thing was feeling left out or not completely fitting in as most of my friends were non-Muslims so they didn’t have these restrictions.

Thank you very much for this very relevant topic and advice, Jasmine and Dawoud. The closest thing I've had to relationships was me agreeing to date guys in the past and only talking on the phone without ever meeting them. In all of those cases, it was me who broke up first after a maximum of a week talking to the guy I'm dating because it'd just feel so wrong to be keeping things from my parents. Moreover, it'd feel rushed each time. Like the guy would start calling me sweet names and saying he loves me before even a week has passed since we'd started dating and that'd just feel so fake.

I really agreed with what Dawoud said at the end about having experience first. In the Muslim world you're either single or married so it cam be hard to get to know a person or connect and build a relationship when you go straight to marriage. My main problem when people say that haram relationships will leave you heartbroken is that in my opinion it paints this picture that muslim marriages or just marriage in general are going to perfect and be better for you. For me personally my parents had a halal marriage. However it was arranged. They are currently divorced, are always yelling at each other, and gave me a lot of problems growing up. Now I don't even want to get married
@schokoladendonut4 жыл бұрын
I get where you are coming from especially when you have experienced your parents relationship being a bad one. It is very important to realise that marriage will not be perfect and it does not mean necessarily that you guys will stay together forever. But the reason that you get married and not just date is because in a marriage both spouses have rights and duties and it case it goes wrong the law (the islamic law as well as the domestic law) is very clear on what happens, money, custody of the kids etc. In a non-marriage relationship you simply don’t have that. Before you get married you should get to know the person, there is no need to rush into the relationship. But of course there are limits on how can get to know them (no physical contact etc.) What Dawaoud said is true, you can learn from your experience BUT as Yasmine pointed out: you should not date just to get experience. If you have done it in the past anyways it’s fine you can learn from it but don’t plan on making mistakes „to learn from them“. Instead learn from other people’s mistakes and get experience in a halal way.

I think Islam is equally harsh to both women and men when it comes to relationships, but when it comes to culture then I think they are more harsher to women. Obviously this isn’t all cultures but it happens a lot.
@sakiyaa7174 жыл бұрын
Sagal Ali You’re absolutely correct. Islam is a perfect religion. But cultures and more specifically each individual family will many times be more lenient with the male making mistakes than they are with a female making that same mistake. Definitely is a no no. But we need to be the change and raise our children Islamically, not culturally.

About the point Dawoud mentioned at the end. Experience is really important, I agree but I feel like in this situation gaining experience doesn't have to be through dating mutiple people. I think in islam is about growing together with your life partner, you will make mistakes, it might be awkward but that's how you will learn about each other, what he/she likes and what he/she doesn't,it will happen naturally. At the end of the day we weren't born knowing things, we are not perfect and it doesn't have to be perfect, it okay to be naive in things. Your partner will not be that experienced either (if never dated too) so you wont be the only one, you guys will learn and understand together, and most importantly grow together. For me even if you dont start with being super experienced, I think the process of starting while knowing nothing to be experienced and doing it with your life partner is perfect in itself. I think this is way better and way more safe than gaining experience with different people that are just temporary and might really damage you while it being haram too because at the end you will reach the same point through both ways and the islamic way its a process far more beautiful and it also protect you. As Jasmine said you can also learn from other people's experiences too. Also, a very important point always have faith and trust in Allah and everything with be fine. I hope this helped someone💕

when jasmine said that She hadn't dating experience, I immediately spoke to myself I'm not the only one then. I really really appreciate this vlog, So Inspiring for me. Thank you ..

I really like this topic because we can see two different perspectives and they both are valid. Everyone goes through different tests, and those who are able to seek forgiveness will definitely understand why those acts were haraam to begin with. It’s also important to note that your level of Imaan can really affect your choices throughout your life, and sometimes stuff happens even if you didn’t plan on it. Alhumdulillah for Islam ❤️

Also loved the videoo😊

All what you have to do girls is to wait until you find the right man for you just trust in god cause he is the only one who know the best thing to you.

Many guys just like to play around but how do u know if a guy is trustworthy and loyal? How to know if someone is the right one? Its really hard to get to know people since people r very good at deception and manipulating. They always put a mask on and sooner or later will fall off. People cant keep up the act. Its scary to commit to someone not knowing that person thoroughly and their intentions
@schokoladendonut4 жыл бұрын
The best way to know if a guy is what he says he is is to ask the people around him about him. Ask his friends, parents, siblings and other people he is around (without him present of course) and just let them tell you about him. And also pray istikhara. If you meet a guy and you guys get introduced to each other’s families and all of that and he seems like a good fit pray istikhara. Allah always knows what’s best for you, and He‘ll guide you.
@waztaz1234 жыл бұрын
As a guy i was thinking the same thing about girls and it can easily be scary. I think the best way is to ask questions about their past and their beliefs and see if they act on their beliefs. Also make an effort to understand guys. Mr charming will be the one who is greatest at deception and unfortunately girls fall mostly for that kind of guy but most other guys are not like that and can’t/will not deceive girls. Also don’t play too much games or tests or be too untrustworthy as that would annoy the other person.
