I am right-handed with a left-dominant eye. Yesterday I adjusted my stance according to how you demonstrated yours and it actually worked for me because I could shoot my straight shots in without any hick-ups. Thank you so much Jasmin!! you gave me something that I can take with me to every pool match and work on during training.

I fought being left eye dominant and right handed. I would inexplicably miss shots out of the blue. Then, I had to have eye surgery. My ophthalmologist mentioned that I was left eye dominant. I argued with him so he proved it to me. My game has improved by double. You are spot on. I adjusted by turning more sideways while standing and then dropping into the shot position. Thank you.

I'm cross dominant and even if I'm right handed my dominant eye is the left. When I firstly tried to play pool I tried few shots with my right hand, and it was a nightmare...so 😂 I decided to play pool with my left hand. It's the fifth time I play and I'm loving it so much. I prefer to give priority to the eye. Boxe, batting (I tried batting in cricket), aiming in airsoft and like precision shoots in football (my left one is the precision one, my right one is the power one) I prefer to actually be in line. Ps I feel your struggle, fighting 💪

Good video and worthy of conversation.. Throughout history the best golfers, baseball hitters and pool players have been cross-eye dominant like you are Jasmin. Its a gift. It allows for a more natural head and neck position over the cue and one of the reasons your stance at the table is so perfect. You don't need another 10-20 degrees of head rotation to align your right eye over the cue which is common with same side dominant players like myself. This greater neck rotation required for same side dominant players...like Joshua Filler...his head position is quite extreme as an example...his neck therefore builds more tension to keep his dominant left eye over the cue stick when playing left handed. Also, same side eye dominant players are more prone to neck problems as they age due to this added neck tension beccause pool players stand at an angle to the table. If you play golf, four of the greatest golfers in history are left eye dominant that play right handed. Jack Nichalus,, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, and Sam Sneed and countless more top players. This allows a fuller body rotation away from the ball and keep dominant cross-eye on the ball at the top of the backswing. In baseball, a dominant cross-eye is closer to the pitcher and requires less head rotation at address, just like pool. So many of the greatest pool players that played right handed were left eye dominant from Mosconi to Crane to Balsis to Jimmy Moore....countless. There are notable exceptions like Earl Strickland and of course the great Joshua Filler. A last note. I am profoundly right eye dominant. My right eye is right over the cue stick. Many have profound eye dominance aka a much weaker, weak eye. There have been top level players that have had poor eye sight in their weak eye. Most notable is, famous pool player Niels Feijen, a Dutch professional pool player from The Hague. Niels not only has a very weak left eye but is not cross-eye dominant like many of the greats and in spite of this handicap, he is considered among the top 100-500 players in the world. A player only needs one strong eye to play top tier pool...like shooting a g_n. Love your game Jasmin. You are exceptional.

Thanks for your explanation. I am cross-eye dominant with the left eye. Before this video, I always try to correct 10-20 degrees of head rotation (like another people) because of the "textbook stance". After your explanation, I found the Jimmy Moore video. His stance is exactly your comment "fuller body rotation away from the ball and keep dominant cross-eye on the ball at the top of the backswing". I will try this stance, it's incredible idea. - Tristan from Vietnam -

One remark Jasmin: Dominant eye is not equal vision center. I am also left eye dominant but that doesn´t mean that i have to put my queue more under my left eye. You have to find your vision center when down to acutally shoot because with body (and head) rotation this changes compared to when you stand upright and look straight. What you should do is to align 10 balls dead straight down the table, put your queue behind the 1st ball as if you were about to hit it and align it also dead straight to all the balls. Now go down into your shot and move your head until you see all the balls perfectly aligned in a straight line. Someone should take a picture now and from there you can draw an imaginary line from the queue up through your face to see, where your vision center really is. As I said I am left eye dominant too but my body adjusted to that with a slight head rotation to the right. That brings my vision center back to the middle and the queue is under my chin, not to the left.
@hansheiterkeit
@hansheiterkeit 6 ай бұрын
Correct. It is misleading to use the term ‘dominant eye’ because vision center is all that matters. Many players have their vision center closer to their less ‘dominant’ eye and it’s fine (me included). For more info about sighting correctly, check out videos by coaches like Nic Barrow, Dr. Dave or have a look at the SightRight method by Stephen Feeney. Finally, stepping into the shot from behind the cue ball instead of ‘leaning into the line of aim’ with the leading foot on the line helps with avoiding the so called ‘triangle of error’ that Jasmin is also referring to in the video.

I've studied this for pool and shooting guns. Something people don't talk about is head tilt. Level eyes create a different vision center than unlevel eyes. Usually, for me, my vision center moves toward my lower eye. If your body type doesn't allow level eyes, you must tilt your head very consistently for vision alignment to stay the same. Ever have those days when it seems you can't hit straight? It could be head tilt inconsistencies.

Yea i,m left eye dominant as well and i found that it is not easy to consistantly tilt the head at exactly the same place every time because I dont know a way to have a solid reference point. I tend to go for a straight head and have a consistant point of contact on the left of chin..Ive seen that shooker dude with a youtube channel seems to tilt his head at a wierd angle and he does well so it really is whatever works.

@@hansheiterkeit Hold a cue to your chin and sight down the shaft. Now close one eye. Now close the other. The reason the sight picture changed is because you are using your dominant eye to sight down the shaft.

Right handed/left eye dominant is my situation as well and I never knew how to address that so thank you for your absolutely brilliant advice. I have occasionally wondered if any of the very best shot makers in history (Earl Strickland would be an example) have been right handed/left eye dominant. It's has always seemed like a disadvantage, but I could be mistaken.

Great video. I'm right handed, w/right eye dominate. BUT, I wear contacts using 'monovision'. My right contact is for distance 3' plus and my left is for reading, about 18" focused. Now, in my 60's I need trifocals....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♂🤷🏻‍♂ I'm never focusing on anything with two eyes, even to see if my boots match!🤠 Shooting pool, I get the shot line standing up first and then move into the shot ... but once down, I can't focus on the cue ball at all, just the object ball, if it's far enough away🤔 If I did it 'right' I can stroke the ball and it usually works. I play pretty well, but I'd love to see how well I could play if I could actually see the balls on the table.

My left eye is my dominant eye but my "vision center" is just to the right of my nose (between my nose and right eye) I'm right handed. The vision center happens in the brain and isn't always on the same side as your dominant eye. You find your dominant eye by placing 3 balls in a straight line across the length of the table and using both eyes look down the line of the 3 balls. Have someone stand on the other side of the line and look where the center lines up on your face. I could be the center of your face or right or left. This is what should be squared up and in line with your shot and cue stick and elbow ect

When I was young, my right eye established dominance by staring at my left eye until it wouldn't even look at the right eye. Always looking away when the right eye goes to look in it's direction. The left eye learned to fall in line and now it follows the right eye direction just fine.

I am a four in the APA league and I was wondering if there are any changes that I should make that would help me out. And I know more and more practice will help but I wasn’t sure about lining up shots and trying to play defense since there’s not really any depth perception now. I appreciate any help and advice that you may provide.
