I find the Hagerty work steered him into the wrong direction. He is overworking his video editing guys to create a film like experience at an expense of cutting time for the clear information filled pieces to camera like this. On the other hand sound edit on the newest videos is out of this world good and is far better than what we see here. Best part?, it's all free to watch

Most of your complaints are things I especially like about this bizarre car and Acura in general; that they go their own way. Stubbornly, indefatigably the Acura-only method. I wouldn’t like that if they weren’t capable of building almost magically capable cars. The first Acura I drove was in 1984, at a dealer-run invite for Porsche owners of a certain age. The sedan I drove was spectacular and I just about gave the rep a heart attack. The last one was a 2018 TLX with vectoring and I drove that one regularly. It was simply astounding how perfectly tuned and developed it was, switching lanes at 100mph like a race car while driving effortlessly around town. Never liked the styling but wow, the driving changed everything.

I remember when the orignal Acura NSX sales dropped in the middle of the 90’s and everyone was criticizing the NSX for being a supercar with a Acura badge with cheap interior… Reviews weren’t great and Acura tried to revive it with the 3.2L Now the new NSX is getting the same critic. I have owned Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Audi, Bmw, GTR Nismo, etc… and the NSX is really a supercar that you can daily drive it WITHOUT any stress! It’s easy, fast, comfortable and easy to drive. I like your opinion Jason but The NSX was intended to be a little of the GTR, a Little of the Italian Supercar and a little of a Honda Accord : a well built rear engine everyday reliable supercar The new NSX failed the same way the LFA did : it’s misunderstood BTW I have the same Long Beach Blue with the 2 tone beige/black interior NSX haha

People will argue that this is a budget Porsche 918 and I'm sure in the next few years it will be desirable but it wasn't the car we asked for. They could have sold the "GT3" version that was a simple twin turbo v6 without the hybird shawd and thrown a 6MT and people would have bought it. It's what we were hoping for but never came

Those who have put on better track tires, leave it in track mode, get a science of speed tune, down pipes and exhaust have turned the NSX from Dr Jekyll to Mr. Hyde, AKA, the perfect daily driven supercar, PERIOD, end of statement!!! Years later, Ferrari again, and everyone else are trying to play catch-up. I'm lucky enough to own the 2019 which is awaiting this transformation and a 2022 Type S which is being stored for future generations to admire. Yours was one of the best reviews and appreciate your insight because I felt the same way after tracking it the first time. Would love and can't wait for you to test drive and review the new Type S.

its a different interpretation of what an nsx would be in the current sports car market. its design i was not such a big fan of at first, but after seeing it in person it is a absolute looker and very different from all the other sports car designs imo. honda/acura did a descent job with this car and i think it will only be remembered more fondly as more and more exotic and sports car makers adopt such technologies into their car due to regulations. just like the first nsx, honda was just a bit earlier than everyone else in what everyone else eventually would do, just not accepted in the same ways by the masses.

The newer Acura NSX had a lot of very strong and very fresh Supercar competition. The Audi R8, McLaren 570S, Porsche 911 Turbo, BMW M8, BMW i8, Aston Martin Vantage, Lamborghini Huracan, Nissan GT-R NISMO, even the new V6 Ford GT, and any Ferarri. And in the end the spiritual successor to the original 1990 Acura NSX became the Lotus Evora and C8 Chevorlet Corvette.

As a life long Honda fan, I was massively disappointed to at the "new" NSX design/styling. Jason is right; a huge missed opportunity by Honda to style it in the vein of the original. I realize it's a different world with so many now regulations regarding crash safety for those in AND out of the car(pedestrians), but without being a retro design, they could have styled to allude to the classic and iconic NSX shape. Maybe why sales have been so damn lackluster the entire run of this "new" version.

Yeah, thankfully, Honda teased two new ev sports cars. While they're both under tarps, you can clearly tell one has more traditional front engine proportions, the other is more exotic looking. My money is on a next gen nsx and s2k. Hopefully they nail the styling I'd the next next time around.

The C8 was exactly what the NSX should of been! Keep the twin turbo v6 to bump the power! Mid Engine, rear drive, limited slip diff, design ques (lines) from our beloved original, keep the weight down and make it available in manual or 8 speed auto! Then target a price of around 70k?! Would of sold like hot cakes all day long. But at $200k.. that's Lambo / Ferrari territory and I'd take one of those over this new NSX any day of the week.

Still have mixed emotions on the 2nd gen NSX. In some ways i think this car was an exercise to see what could be done with all the available tech/running gear. Honda can take all of the crazy tech in new cars, stir it together and make it all work. The other emotion is "Come on Honda" just give us a ripping high revving non turbo engine and that near perfect manual transmission in a 2nd gen that is a continuation of the original.

The NSX did (and does) play by its own rules. Both cars are stunning by a design language that play to no other design.... which is cool (in my humble opinion). They don't need to be similar. To me, I knew the new NSX was the new NSX. They both are great design exercises for their own era without being a slave to those superfluous design trends. Honestly, if I had super-car money, there is no other exotic I would buy over the NSXs. If you value an exotic performance car experience that will provide years of owner satisfaction, without the onus of expensive repairs and maintenance costs, you cannot ask for a better solution. Also, I've seen a new NSX (in red) in person... and its gorgeous, plain and simple, gorgeous. Are there other cars more beautiful? Probably, but it stands as a great design nonetheless. Honda engineers are brilliant and they aim toward a different set of perimeters than Lamborghinis and Ferraris. It's in a class of its own. It needs to appreciate as such. The NSX HAS to be a exhibition of its technological advances and expertise. Therefore, it HAS to show off the best they can execute while looking toward the future. It can't be and should not be 'old school' with a stick shifter and a V-8. Besides, some V6s do sound sexy (read Ferrari Dino) but yet, it doesn't happen here. Too bad they did not adjust the exhaust note to please the ears as much as they pleased the soul with its throttle response.

@damilolaakanni
@damilolaakanni 2 жыл бұрын
It could work if they partner with a brand that makes performance V8s paired with manual transmissions. Toyota is off the list because although they make a great 5.0 V8, it's exclusively paired with a 10 speed automatic transmission. Nissan is also off the list because they make a 5.6 V8, but that's a truck engine. The Germans haven't made an N/A V8 since the W212 E63 AMG, and even that wasn't paired with a manual transmission. Like Toyota, Hyundai had a 5.0 V8, but it was automatic only. The only options are the Americans. Either GM, Ford or Dodge. So it's either Ford's 5.0 or GM's 6.2 (which is more likely since they're already in a partnership to make EVs, and GM already has a MR platform for the C8 corvette), or Dodge's 6.4 for maximum power (the 5.7 is great, but it barely makes 400HP). The question then is, will Honda/Acura do it? If they do it, won't the JDM purists hate on it like they're doing to the MK5 Supra? How many people will actually buy it, assuming they can afford it?

But I think an NA V6 with a hybrid system, torque vectoring rear diff and a curb weight under 3500lb for under $100K could have been something special. Given that Acura basically put all that in a $70K RLX means it was possible. But what's done is done I guess

Acura made the antithesis of the NSX and still called it an NSX. Sure the original represented the state of supercars of its day (maybe minus the V6), and the current iteration (gone now, I know), is a car of today. But as Jason says, imagine what they could have done with a basic, mid engine, rear drive, DCT layout. Maybe coming in 1000 pounds less than this car.

As much as I love the NSX it is unfortunate it was wedged into the Supercar category and price point. Without the same wild, engaging, and passionate character which the competition has learned to master since the first NSX shook their world, it can’t fill the shoes or carry the torch of that legacy. Honda/Acura couldn’t pull the same trick twice; the first NSX worked because super cars were lackluster for huge bucks. I think the new NSX may have worked if they did what the C8 Corvette is now, but years ahead with a Honda badge. The Corvette is really dipping its toes in the Supercar world now, but the base is under $80K which makes it accessible (if you can find one, and the markups don’t make it 6 figures). It’s not beating the supercars all together like the OG NSX did, but it’s crossing lines. And the new NSX just doesn’t quite execute with its mixed identity.

I would love a version of that just RWD with the monster twin turbo V6. They could make it like a Porsche GT2. They could also make a light as possible stick shift version like 3300lbs curb weight. I see missed a opportunity with this machine with simpler, cheaper, purer versions

I also wish Honda could release a simple drivers car in EU but is has officially killed off the fun cars all together, only hybrids available. Type R is coming next year but who can afford that. I am really hoping that once they go fully electric Honda will release something catered towards the enthusiasts.

Still, the new NSX already aged better than the C8.

Got any Subaru content in those archives? I don’t think I’ve ever heard your thoughts on the WRX/STI.

Hot take: The NSX was the inspiration for the SF90 and the Ferrari was just a better execution of this layout

What are those wheels on the first gen? They look just like factory BBS RZ wheels off an Rx7.

Acura five years ago: "Look, hybrid supercars are the future." Ferrari: "I spit on your V6 hybrid." Today? Ferrari: "Feast your eyes on this new 296 hybrid supercar!!!"

There is never a time when it’s acceptable to add weight to a sports car. It should always be as Colin Chapman said. Simplify and add lightness.
