Why do you think revised versions of old cars like that are still being made? Because the community loved the old ones and supported both the company and the product. They better pay homage to what came before, because without it, the new version wouldn’t exist. A huge part of how these new versions can even remotely exist is purely because people love the old ones.

To be honest, I felt like no one gave this car the respect it deserved, and so it felt like the supercar just for me. My family owned an old Acura and every time we went in for servicing I always checked out the NSX in the showroom. I love the looks, I love the technology working behind the scenes, and I loved its message. I would root for it in GT3 races and choose it every racing game. Although I'm sad to see it end its production, I'm happy that it existed and that Acura cared enough to make the type s. It'll still occupy the top of my favorite car list, and I hope that the stars will align, and I can drive it one day!

That's probably because it was a Japanese 'me too!' car that tried to keep up with Italian cars that resulted in an uninteresting, uninspired, _uninspiring_ car that was overpriced for what it was. Japanese car companies ought to stick to what they're good at: building soulless workaday grocery getter sedans.

I agree with you, this is a great car. My dad owned one of the originals back in the '90s and then one of the new ones, in 2017. He made some of the same statements you did, but he loved the fact that he could "daily drive" this car and you CANNOT do that with some of the supercars out now. The NSX is fast, and it was a ton of fun to ride in. Unfortunately, dad passed in 2020 and, since I can't drive, I don't think I'll be riding in one again any time soon, sadly. If my dad were still here I think he would agree with you about the infotainment system, but he was technology challened, but he didn't buy it for the infotainment, he bought it to drive it! RIP Pop!

This is a beautiful car, but the biggest downfall will always be the price and performance. Similar to the LFA, I think the NSX took too long to develop that by the time it hit production, it was already obsolete compared to its competitors. If the NSX was released 4 years earlier, it might have had a different turnout.

Nah, it suffers from the "stunt" problem. People, unfortunately, will never see Japanese cars as anything other than ecoboxes. Rappers, influences, rich pricks, etc don't ever stunt in a lexus or a acura/honda. It's always Raris, lambos, Mclarens, Mercs, Bimmers, etc. The only ones who care about these cars are Japanese enthusiasts, and there aren't enough of them. I’ll never understand why people complain about the performance. It is literally faster to 60mph than an Aventador, 488, Huracan, GTR, or R8 V10. It costs around the same as a 992 Carrera 4S which is significantly slower to 60, slower over a quarter mile, and comparable in lap time (at worst) on any track. A 2017 NSX has the straight line performance comparable to a new $380,000 Lambo Aventador for half the price, how is that poor performance or value?

The issue was it’s competition at the time. It was more expensive than the Audi R8, Porsche 911, nissan GTR, and BMW i8. The original NSX sold about 1200 units per year. The new one sold about 280 per year. On average. The original was subjectively good looking but certainly a simple elegant bargain. The original nsx isn't even that good looking COMPARE TO IT'S COMPETITION back then, it was not fast compare to the competition back then but it offer reliability and comfortability that other supper car of the same era does not which make it as famous as it's currently. The new nsx pretty much does the same thing as it's predecessor but in an age where most supper car are already comfortable to ride, it doesn't really stand out as much. I concur with Doug, I think these cars are great, I just think they pulled a "horizon zero dawn" and released the new NSX during a flurry of supercar buzz, what with the huracan being new at the time, I believe an updated 488 was coming, and mclaren was really getting ramped up at the time prior to the 720. That, and we were still all particularly incensed about hybrid/electric stuff still. FWIW, I don't think this car disrespects it's legacy at all, and I'm a honda guy. The original NSX is hailed as an incredible analogue driver's experience, which it is, but that's only from the relative viewpoint of our power-everything crossover world today. Back when the NSX was new, it probably seemed like just as much of a spaceship, computer-on-wheels type car as this one seems to us. Hell, NSX stands for "New Sportscar, eXperimental." So we know they weren't going for something traditional. I think the legacy of the car is exactly experimentation with technology.

As others have stated, I think it was a combination of price plus legacy that smothered this car from the outset. The Grand Tour review was fairly telling when, despite the tech and cost, it was basically on par with the R35 GTR, which obviously isn't anything to scoff at, but when you factor in that the NSX also costs around $40-50K more, it becomes a difficult sell. Then there's the legacy aspect, the first gen NSX was a simple driver's car that focused on being "budget friendly" with racing pedigree to boot, as opposed to a hybrid supercar which made it seem overtly complex and that Honda was caught chasing trends instead of doing their own thing as they did with the first gen.

@@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA The problem is, that the NSX isn't comparable to Italian and German supercars. A person who wants an exotic supercar isn't even going to consider a Honda or "Acura", they're going to go for a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Porsche etc. So that leaves things like the GT-R as an actual competitor. There's probably a few reasons why that had to be like maybe they couldn't find a reliable manual gearbox that can handle the power and for the less analog feel, you have to remember that we can't always dwell in the past. Anyways, that's what i think. Edit: Good discussions. Love this community

Amazing styling? Obviously this is subjective, but styling is the primary reason these don't sell. I've seen one in person, and it just doesn't look "$200k", maybe half that at most. Certainly not "beautiful" like so many of the italian competitors are. Aside from not looking that good, it's also just not interesting to look at. Quick glance and walked on, no pictures.

So I have a good bit of driving experience with the older and new NSXs, they are very good driving machines, the older ones especially. The new ones felt a bit numb because everything is electronic, even the brakes, but were incredible to drive for sure. The problem with this type s is they made a mistake only doing 300, the body upgrades over the 2017-2021 models are great, but the performance upgrades are still very limited on these. But the biggest issue to me is the interior, it is no better than a TLX, and the price is a major letdown.

Honestly I won't ever understand the hate. I agree that the interior infotainment system is really outdated even more than the 2016 AMG GT that I've owned, however if you use android auto or apple carplay its not that bad since most people use one or the other anyway. Hate it or Love if I compare this to all the other sports cars i've owned the NSX by far attracts the most attention. Every time I'm on the road I see people snapping pictures and videos especially by people of my generation (mid 30s to upper 50's). I agree. The purpose of the nsx is innovation and experimentation. It did so at the time of the original nsx and by just doing the same thing again it wouldn’t have lived up to its namesake. If people got what they “wanted” which is a old school an engine with a manual transmission then there wouldn’t be anything new or experimental about the car. It would just be old and traditional. Times have changed and so has technology. Many of the vocal car enthusiast on the internet seem to be stuck in the past and anything new or innovative is heresy and dogma. It’s odd because tech enthusiasts on the other hand are fanatic about the bleeding edge and rarely would you have someone wish they made computers like the amigas or commodores of the 80s. I like the new nsx and I do think the price was a bit much. But I am also able to understand that Honda was trying to bring technology seen in 700k+ supercars downstream and down market. I agree with Doug that the info system is way out of date. In regard to it going up in value...that I can see. Just look at the original early to mid 90's NSX's. They listed for $65-75K. 10-15 years ago you could've got a nice one with under 50K miles on it for in the $30's...not any more. They are double and triple that from what I've seen. I love the engineering that went into these cars, if you look at the rivals it has, it is far and away the most reliable, most usable and I dare say most fun (After all it's expensive but it's not Ferrari expensive). If you were to look for a pound for pound competitor to the NSX and this Type S variant you'd likely end up looking at Mclaren and almost double the pricetag. If I had the money, I'd already be happily in search of twisty roads to go play with it on!!

@@ToyotaAristo I appreciate your insights, but disagree. I'm disabled, my right leg amputated below the knee and it is much easier to convert an existing automatic transmission than a manual. I've also owned two front engined Porsches over the years and loved them both (924 and 944s) I really like the design of this NSX as well as the engineering involved in creating it. If you're one of those folks who determine that no sports cars can be automatics I suggest a trip to a Jaguar dealer and find an old Jaguar XKR with a whack of miles o the clock and tell me it isn't a sports car, or at very least one hell of a GT car.
@ToyotaAristo

In your specific case certainly an automatic is better. Still a Porsche is the better and more fun car overall imo, for that price you can get a NA engine wich is a masterpiece with only 4.0 liters and over 500hp with manual or PDK. For me there isn't a Japanese car today that is more fun than that despite you choose manual or automatic there isn't for me. Or go budget and pick up the Corvette. For me it doesn't make sense the new nsx. But if you like the nsx i totally respect it.

Its not a Type R because the Type R line is reserved for stripped out track performance. Type S is for higher performance/luxury trim. Doug… as the owner of a 2017 NSX (chassis #0131), I would like to thank you VERY much for: a) helping to boost my car’s re-sale value, and b) helping get the car the respect it deserves. I have owned my NSX for 18 months and put 10,000km on it. I agree with almost everything Doug said. It is EXTREMELY fast in a straight line, handles very well but a handful at the limit, infotainment is garbage (although functional), it’s super comfortable and usable as a daily… but most importantly it’s gorgeous. Every time I drive it people approach and compliment it or take pics when I drive by. The badge may be less “showy” and “prestige” than a Lambo or Ferrari but the car is definitely not. It’s a great car with a couple of major flaws that you can absolutely live with. I plan to put at least 40-50,000 kms on mine with zero concerns about reliability or maintenance and it’ll still look modern and beautiful in 2026.

(To a fault even, look at the 11th gen civic 🤮) Just saying, I would buy this if I had a cool 200k sitting around. I was coming of automotive age when the original NSX hit the market and I watched it from its beginning to the very end as prices went up and sales went down as the competition kicked its backside pretty badly. From the moment the new Model (finally) arrived, it had more in common with the original than people wanted to notice. Is it still a understated supercar with everyday car reliability? YES. Is it still not as fast around the track, pretentious or loud as its immediate rivals? YES. Is it somewhat old-school in area's, while being cutting edge in the area's that matters most? YES. Will it be a future classic? undoubtedly. Its not easy to design something timeless from the start since inspired thought beyond paint color and exhaust note (GM and Ford) takes alot of effort to not make it the equivalent of rolling pop culture with a predetermined design appeal life. Fortunately, the NSX got the attention it needed before it went into production assuring its place in the future.

My finances are limited, so even if I could afford to buy (finance) an exotic car, I couldn't afford to maintain it, too.
