I concur with Doug, I think these cars are great, I just think they pulled a "horizon zero dawn" and released the new NSX during a flurry of supercar buzz, what with the huracan being new at the time, I believe an updated 488 was coming, and mclaren was really getting ramped up at the time prior to the 720. That, and we were still all particularly incensed about hybrid/electric stuff still. FWIW, I don't think this car disrespects it's legacy at all, and I'm a honda guy. The original NSX is hailed as an incredible analogue driver's experience, which it is, but that's only from the relative viewpoint of our power-everything crossover world today. Back when the NSX was new, it probably seemed like just as much of a spaceship, computer-on-wheels type car as this one seems to us. Hell, NSX stands for "New Sportscar, eXperimental." So we know they weren't going for something traditional. I think the legacy of the car is exactly experimentation with technology.

As others have stated, I think it was a combination of price plus legacy that smothered this car from the outset. The Grand Tour review was fairly telling when, despite the tech and cost, it was basically on par with the R35 GTR, which obviously isn't anything to scoff at, but when you factor in that the NSX also costs around $40-50K more, it becomes a difficult sell. Then there's the legacy aspect, the first gen NSX was a simple driver's car that focused on being "budget friendly" with racing pedigree to boot, as opposed to a hybrid supercar which made it seem overtly complex and that Honda was caught chasing trends instead of doing their own thing as they did with the first gen.

@@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA The problem is, that the NSX isn't comparable to Italian and German supercars. I've had an R8, AMG GT, AMG GTS, SL65 AMG, POSCHE 911 and a C7 z06 and now I've owned the 2nd Gen NSX for couple of months now. I agree that the interior infotainment system is really outdated even more than the 2016 AMG GT that I've owned, however if you use android auto or apple carplay its not that bad since most people use one or the other anyway. Hate it or Love if I compare this to all the other sports cars i've owned the NSX by far attracts the most attention. Every time I'm on the road I see people snapping pictures and videos especially by people of my generation (mid 30s to upper 50's). Common reaction I get from people is that they've never seen one on the road as well.

The NSX is supposed to be the "new sportscar experimental." making a tribute car would not have lived up to the name. I think a tribute definitely would have been better received, but it's not true to the brand like what they built is.
@Biwa_Hayahide2 жыл бұрын
I agree. The purpose of the nsx is innovation and experimentation. It did so at the time of the original nsx and by just doing the same thing again it wouldn’t have lived up to its namesake. If people got what they “wanted” which is a old school an engine with a manual transmission then there wouldn’t be anything new or experimental about the car. It would just be old and traditional. Times have changed and so has technology. Many of the vocal car enthusiast on the internet seem to be stuck in the past and anything new or innovative is heresy and dogma. It’s odd because tech enthusiasts on the other hand are fanatic about the bleeding edge and rarely would you have someone wish they made computers like the amigas or commodores of the 80s. I like the new nsx and I do think the price was a bit much. But I am also able to understand that Honda was trying to bring technology seen in 700k+ supercars downstream and down market. They listed for $65-75K. 10-15 years ago you could've got a nice one with under 50K miles on it for in the $30's...not any more. They are double and triple that from what I've seen. I plan to put at least 40-50,000 kms on mine with zero concerns about reliability or maintenance and it’ll still look modern and beautiful in 2026.

They probably would have sold a lot more if the new NSX was like this from the start. It always fell right in that grey area of sport/super cars where it was too expensive for an average joe to buy, but it wasn't fancy or sport enough for the big spenders to want to invest in (not to mention it was a super car that actually depreciated in value). Had they made it like this right from go, it probably would have been more successful.
@drkilledbydeath872 жыл бұрын
It guaranteed would have sold a lot more if it followed the original nsx's moniker, super car performance for a fraction of the cost. Quite literally the same as the R35 gtr.... When it started. But now Godzilla has ballooned from a $70k car to over $200k. Which is fuckin ridiculous.
@nicstroud2 жыл бұрын
I'd have thought that the top of the range, performance version would be the Type R. What made the original NSX legendary was it performed as well as the supercars of the day but cost half the price. That's a tough formula to replicate today.
@hakeemsd70m2 жыл бұрын
Long before the end of its lifespan, the NSX got hideously expensive. I remember a former Acura employee telling me they had a 2000 NSX at the dealer for more than 2 years because nobody bought them, no one was willing to pay $90K for an Acura back then.
@2A-Jake2 жыл бұрын
I think the NSX is a perfect example of what honda and Acura have always represented. Their trademark practical, reliable, daily drivers. If you have ever owned old and new ones this is no exception. They've also been great about listening to the community and making real changes based on feedback. (To a fault even, look at the 11th gen civic 🤮) Just saying, I would buy this if I had a cool 200k sitting around. I'd venture to bet cost-of-owning would also be MUCH lower compared to other cars in its class.

The new NSX is one of my favorite modern cars. Especially in a age where most modern cars are bloated heavy pieces of garbage, the NSX looks nimble and amazing. It's where I would have wanted the '80s and '90s car aesthetic to have evolved into. It's a shame to get so much hate because it isn't the fastest car in the world but like, if you're really at that level of driving anyway, you would just throw in some giant fucking jet engine anyway so why are you even complaining.

I really like this car. The look is so modern it looks like it was released yesterday. I think the car was wronged by the nostalgia of the previous model. This car was a very important study, bringing various technologies that are in many cars today and this visual language used until today by Acura and Honda.
@jefffaller84742 жыл бұрын
I was coming of automotive age when the original NSX hit the market and I watched it from its beginning to the very end as prices went up and sales went down as the competition kicked its backside pretty badly. From the moment the new Model (finally) arrived, it had more in common with the original than people wanted to notice. Is it still a understated supercar with everyday car reliability? YES. Is it still not as fast around the track, pretentious or loud as its immediate rivals? YES. Is it somewhat old-school in area's, while being cutting edge in the area's that matters most? YES. Will it be a future classic? undoubtedly. Its not easy to design something timeless from the start since inspired thought beyond paint color and exhaust note (GM and Ford) takes alot of effort to not make it the equivalent of rolling pop culture with a predetermined design appeal life. Fortunately, the NSX got the attention it needed before it went into production assuring its place in the future.
@pokerracer2 жыл бұрын
This car with it's limited production was literally sold out within days. Acura had double amount of orders than the units they planned to produce, so if you want one, you would have to pry it out of someone else's hands and possibly pay handsomely for it. This is definitely a car I would want to have in my car collection.

What Honda failed to realize is at the time of the original NSX, the established brands were plagued with poor workmanship, quality control issues, and generally too fragile to be enjoyed. The NSX had the supercar looks and relatively powerful V6. It was quick, had superb handling. It was an analogue masterpiece. The modern NSX competes with the established brands that aren't fragile, have good quality control, and give a better driver experience. The NSX sounds horrible. Each car company around the world really put their hearts out to make both supercars and hypercars come out amazingly good so we should respect the hardwork they do on different model cars.

I have always loved the NSX, including this generation, which I think looks amazing. Honestly, I'll never be able to afford one, but this car appeals to me because it's a more affordable and reliable option for a supercar. My finances are limited, so even if I could afford to buy (finance) an exotic car, I couldn't afford to maintain it, too. So a high end car like this that I could daily drive and which won't also cost me an arm and a leg to maintain is a huge bonus. Again, this is way out of my price range, but I still love the idea of a more affordable/reliable supercar, or whatever you want to call it.

Just connect via bluetooth + USB Audio Pro App and voila - voice control infotainment and App that handles even FLAC and ALAC files. Drive the damn thing!
