I wanted more of just Jason playing the bass part so I made it happen.

My favorite song for Metallica. Paced perfectly, songwriting is excellent, and the message is unique.

Best song on the album. And I have to say‐ his first contribution "blackened" is the best song on justice.

I can only assume that @Nicwar19 favors "enter sadbutrueman" and all the other over played metallica tracks. As well as the load and st.anger years. Lmao. Jk. Im just talking shit. But it isnt an inappropriate response. You didnt offer why its the worst. Tbh I'm not particularly that fond of the black album and was disappointed when it was released. I was a teenager at the time and developing a heavier taste in music. and i had higher expectations from metallica. I felt that the prior release - AJFA - missed the mark but i blamed it on the death of Cliff. I figured the tragedy may have inhibited James' creative ability at the time, but it would came back full circle eventually. I was mistaken unfortunately. And I didnt take into consideration at the time that bands usually fall off after the first few albums because everybody eventually evolves. And when they do, it disappoints the old fan base. It's unavoidable. Slayer, pantera and LOG kept themselves painted in a corner the longest. With 5 albums hitting the mark. For Slayer- maybe 6 - because God hates us all was a worthy comeback that just blew the two prior albums out of the water. And to be fair - ALL of pantera's 5 albums hit the mark. And who knows what they would have accomplished assuming the band would have reunited. And after meeting and talking to dimes lady, rita haney, at rocklahoma- they would have rejoined with phil and continued the legacy. But the band was tragically cut short by murder. But - my point is - when it comes to riff mastering - Metallica's first 3 albums are the masterpieces. Nothing can compare.

@@cfhlogisticsMisery could have been a great song it had potential but they ruined it. That chorus doesnt fit the song a bit. There are 2 songs on black album i dont listen misery and struggle. Other than it its flawless. Slayer never had the musicallity that Metallica had. They're just another thrash band to me. Justice and Black has amazing riffs.

@@Nichwar19 I think you may have mistyped What you were saying about struggle. As a guitarist I think I know exactly what you meant. That the guitar solo is flawless correct? Because it indeed is. And I will have to agree with you that it isn't very good song. As for misery, I can see where you're coming from as far as the chorus goes. And it's OK to be off on certain things in a song when it comes to different measures like main riffs, verse, riffs, chorus, breakdowns etc- In fact I don't like it when everything is exactly the same Or overdone in a sharper or minor scale and following the same pattern or notationon on a different scale. The key to good writing in my opinion is primarily what music in itself rides on and what makes a catchy, cutting edge sound. It's a fine line really. And it is riding this fine line between redundancy and Unpredictability. And you certainly don't want too much of either of those. You don't want redundancy for obvious reasons. Because it just gets really boring and annoying to the ears. As for full blown unpredictability - Some people seem to like jazz fusion for this reason. But personally it's not my thing. But when it comes to having parts of a song that don't feel like they fit. It's either because It lacked the proper transition or it was simply way too off that it could never fit regardless. In the case for misery. I don't think it was the latter. But I think it boiled down to the band being so burned out making that album. An interesting fact about that album- There was no thought put into mixing - It was mixed the way it was made from first song written to last. Enter Sandman Was the first track that they made and struggle was the last and everything in between in that order. Misery was the second to last and they had gotten lazy at that point. So my opinion- the chorus could have been a little bit better And it lacked the proper transition. Additionally it was the mark of a different metallica. The reason why it became so mainstream is the same reason That makes Mainstream music mainstream - simplicity. In that it leans more towards predictability than it does unpredictability. In other words the redundancy as I was talking about earlier. Unlike their first three albums that leaned a little bit more towards the unpredictability. But not too much of course, because like I said you don't want too much of either side. The key to good metal is 4 to 5 fundamentals. Or "fundametals" as i like to say. first and foremost. 1. You've got to have something that's catchy 2. You can't take forever to get to it- it's got to hook the listener quickly or 2b. If you're gonna do a long intro And build up to your main hook it better kick ass. 3. For metal you better have some tritones. 4. Keep the harmonies simple. Rule of thumb - If it Can be played with one hand on the piano. In that hand stays in place and isn't moving all over the place Then it is simple enough. 5. Good metal - You can get away without being the greatest guitarist, bassist and vocalist - Because good writing trumps all of that. (Case in point-black sabbath) What you can't get away with is a mediocre drummer. A badass drummer is absolutely essential. There is no getting around it. With that said, Despite metallica, being one of the best they would have been twice as good with a drummer like chris adler or Aaron kitcher. Also, Regarding misery, One of the reasons that I actually adore the song is that it was inspired by Cliff Burton's riff to Anesthesia pulling teeth. If you're not a guitarist You'll have a better understanding as to what I mean by that if you compare the tabletures of those two songs.

Well executed edit, this sounds perfect! The final song is such a missed opportunity imo. Jason's part is absolutely amazing, and the guitar parts that goes with the bass riff are also excellent. I really don't like the chorus riff, it feels completely out of place for me. And like Jason was thinking, this would've been perfect as an instrumental. Add a few more parts that fits the tone, and use Jason's full riff, not just the first part. I've been watching this for 7 minutes now. ❤🤘
