Multi-Grammy-winning musician Jason Newsted is parting with several pieces of his personal guitar and bass collection for the very first time, right here on Reverb.
Set to open its doors on July 24, the Official Jason Newsted Reverb Shop will be filled with over 60 items from throughout the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's illustrious career. Though Newsted is known as an accomplished metal bassist, what may surprise you is his vintage-laden instrument collection.
As he mentions in this, he's spent the last four decades traveling the world and playing with a variety of excellent bands. Along the way, he's also collected a significant cache of fine, rare, and beautiful pieces. Now, for the first time, Newsted is giving fans a chance to own a piece of his legendary collection.

Jason just seems like a genuinely great person, I still cannot understand why rest of Metallica did him so dirty. For me Jason is even more important than Cliff , those late 80´s - mid 90s Metallica gigs are something special, Jason was a BEAST! Especially live.

No doubt. I can’t and won’t get into the nuances of interpersonal relationships. I understand the narrative that the rest of the band “did him dirty”, but I don’t personally subscribe to it. I don’t think we can/will ever know the fine details of how it all went down. Suffice to say, it didn’t work out. But you’re absolutely right about Jason’s importance being right up there with Cliff’s. The fact is that Jason was part of Metallica during the 10-year span where they were at their absolute peak-and he was a big part of it. ‘89 - 2000 or so. They were the biggest, baddest, most epic band on the planet. I hope we get to see Jason play something with those guys again, just for old times sake.

It was because of Jason being such a nice guy that allowed them to walk all over him. Fuck Lars. Fuck James. I don't know about Kirk? He looks like he could be quite the diva. But I think ultimately he was Jason's friend. Imagine how they treat Rob... I saw Jason fill in as front man after James hurt himself riding a jet ski back in 99 or 00. Shit started to go sideways when they announced James wouldn't be there! Jason saved the show! After that many people had huge respect for him. I know I did! Jason is the man!

Just want to say that Jason is aging really well, he looks great and he's gotta be in his early 60s now. As someone in their mid-50s I can tell you it's a lot of work, discipline and dedication every day to achieve that, so whatever he's doing, it's really paying dividends. right? if they care that much about them having a new life it shouldn't be an auction. I don't have a good answer on how to make it fair but eliminating collectors, business' etc is a start but probably impossible to control. I think sellers should settle on a FAIR valuation and do some type of lottery system so money doesn't rule over the "second life intentions". Sounds like he wants collectors prices but would love people to play them, which would devalue the instrument by use over time, it's one or the other mr newsted

Nobody is going to be here forever. Jason is not a young man anymore and has an abundance of wealth and musical equipment he no longer needs. This is a win-win. Jason can get rid of a lot of extra shit he does not need or will use anymore, while being able to still see his gear go to his fans or the next generation to keep the music going.

Happy to see Jason! I’m guessing he’s just moving on from some things. Definitely going to collectors. Not sure if anyone will play them again

I'll never be able to afford it, but that 3-string StingRay is literally exactly what I need for my old, original Funk Fingers (or, yeah, slide like he said).

I've been a big fan of Jason's since he joined Metallica in Sept of '86 and even with him now gone from the band for 23 years he's still awesome. He has a few pieces I'm interested in that he didn't show so I'll see if the one I want might go for sale. That one Alembic he mentioned first was used on the Seattle '89 video and he used it off & on on the '88-'90 Damaged Justice run.

Wonder if he’s got any of Cliff’s gear over there. Could listen to him talk about this stuff forever. Be well, Jasonic.

He has one of Cliff's black and gold Aria SBs. Cliff's sister, Connie, has one, and I think the other is in the Rock Hall with his Rickenbacker. Lars may have one, too.

Back in 92 I went and saw them on the black album tour in Charlotte NC had 6th row seats and almost came to blows with a dude to get one of Jason's picks was so enamored with it I played with it and broke it snapped it in half I was young and dumb wish I'd have kept it now but hindsight is a mf!!

more musicians should do this. I remember my MIND being blown when Corgan off loaded a buncha cool stuff. I was broke and homeless at the time, but would of killed for even a guitar pick, lol.
