One thing I like in the kill is how Jason goes for an immediate “closest thing I can stab” while Micheal goes for the head, highlighting what they say in the conclusion and analysis about Micheal being the better killer but loses due to brute force.

I know Michael’s death would end in decapitation but the one thing I would have liked is for Michael to make the same gestures and movements that Pamela Voorhees did when she got decapitated. I know it sounds very picky, but I thought it would be a great idea to add in more references during the fight between Michael and Jason. Edit: I also now think for the tombstone scene, it should have been Judith Myer’s tombstone but when Jason looks at it, it turns into his mother’s tombstone. It would definitely be fitting for both characters.

I'll be honest, with how they were setting up the analysis part, I was half expecting the battle to have been a 2D animation where Wiz and Boomstick were trying to escape as the two still had their battle. That way they could go with a slower fight, and you feel something for some of the victims of the match, while also just having randos die as they go to a Cabin in the Woods, with either Micheal or Jason getting thrown through the door by the other.

The potential was there 100%, but man did it feel like a let down. And I especially feel bad not liking this considering it was animated by DevilArtemis, who is going through a lot of unfortunate shit right now. The fact that this animation was even made in the first place is a feat on its own.

This episode could've used some more polish and better scripting for the fight. I agree with what you said that it was too quick. A lot of what makes Michael and Jason scary is their slow, lumbering pace and the knowledge that no matter how fast or far you run they WILL kill you. The sleeping bag should've had Jason get knocked back, a moment to acknowledge it's there, then he hefts it up and spins it around into Michael. Then with the tombstone they should've had Jason get stunned and show Michael struggling for a moment before plucking the tombstone like a carrot and smashing it over Jason's head. Sorry if this comment is too long ^^; Just thought I'd offer my two cents on how the fight could've been. Enjoyed the vid and loved you reading/responding to the comments at the end. That Starscream impression was great.

I honestly feel like they kind of rushed most of this episode to cash in on it being Halloween. Seeing how most of the cg animation and choreography felt very soulless and slapped together. It also felt like the violence got neutered in this, especially when compared to DBs in the past. Such as when those two werewolf characters fought and one of them ripped open the others abdomen, and began to strangle him with his own intestines.

While not having nearly as much love for these characters as you, I was still really eager to see this Death Battle, not only because I was interested to see how they'd do two slasher villains but also because it seemed like a cool match up in general even if I was completely confident in Jason winning. The actual end product though was meh to me. I like the change in scenery for the analysis section where instead of the lab or wherever they normally do it, its a camping trip which fits the Halloween feel for this fight and there was a comment that mentioned that Jason's rundown felt like a campfire tale while Myers' felt like a psychiatric report which also was pretty good but like...the campfire set up had no pay off or at least nothing I thought was satisfying. All the DB crew gets picked off and I guess Wiz and Boomstick get murdered last? Like, what happened to Jocelyne, Ring Master and Dummy? Who was coming after them? I wish they actually answered this. Honestly, I was expecting Jocelyne, Ring Master and Dummy to be pranking them, they leave when they are distracted with the rundown and then pop out at the very end but that didn't happen so I guess they are actually dead. Another thing that could have been cool was showing off a vague silhouette of the killer to where it could either be Jason or Micheal and after the fight and conclusion, the victor shows up fully with the battle damage they sustained from the Death Battle to go and killer Wiz and Boomstick. That would have been cool but instead we got just some big dude, who from this video I learn is just a re-used asset apparently. They really could have done more with the setting so it seems like more of a waste even if it was still cool. As for the fight, you pretty much said exactly what I was thinking, even to the point of that first interaction seeming like it was about to be the start of a martial arts fight. Everything in this fight moved too fast, it didn't feel natural but in a bad way as opposed to feeling unnatural like how these two characters would feel. Also, this could just be me but some stuff in this fight was hard to follow like the exchange at the start when Myers pins Jason to a tree, I didn't realize at first that Micheal turned him around before this so it just looked like the two swapped positions and then when Joe Victim gets pulled out of the car and is just instantly pulled up, it was like something was missing. Moving objects also looked shit in this fight, the sleeping bag Jason was carrying looked stiff as hell and the ax being picked up didn't look like it was picked up by a person but just levitated off the ground. This fight was too fast and too janky. I think the worst moment for me was Joe Victim trying to get into the car. With how quick the door flew open and him falling on his ass, felt so like...Looney Tunes to me. Its like the animators don't know how humans move or how certain objects react when being interacted with. The campfire setting seemed wasted or not used as much as it could have been, the fight just seemed rushed and moved like it was at mach 10, it makes me wonder if they were trying to quickly rush this out so it came out on Halloween which would be sad though I am not sure if I'd preferred rushed to get to an appropriate date or rushed just because. All in all, it was just meh, not a little disappointing like the last one but still not the best and that's coming from someone with just a normal interest in this fight. Intrigued by the next time as I know nothing about Middle Earth or Warcraft so this will be completely new territory. I do find it funny though, with this season, the battles I didn't care about ended up being the ones I like the most, Jinx vs Harley, Omni-Man vs Homelander, Trunks vs Silver, makes me wonder if the next time won't be as interesting because I am really intrigued.

It's not as good as other fights in the season and I get why people don't like it, but I'm mostly fine with what we got. Hopefully my boy Freddy gets a more grand outing though.

This whole fight reminds me of Freddy VS Jason. Awesome fighting that's a bit over the top and no realistic (looking at you pinball sound effects), a main focus on joe victims that cut away from the action, and a LOT of blood and injuries that still don't stop them unless there's water or it's a decapitation. in this case, there's no water for Jason to fall into and no visible eyes or mouth on Michael's face to smile and wink, you know because his head was split apart on the tombstone. I still really like this episode as a slasher enthusiast. I'd say it's my 3rd favourite of the season with Omnilander 2nd and Spongebob featuring Aquaman as 1st (and my fave of the show lmao)

Easily the worst episode of the Season for me. Which is a shame since every other episode this season was either decent or a straight up banger. This episode had quite a bit of jank in the animation. Movements felt a bit stiff for all characters. Literally most of the episode it seemed like we were just following some random guy just running around while we occasionally see two killers fighting. Who thought that was a good idea. It's like they watched Freddy VS Jason and thought people would rather see the teens in the movie rather then the killers themselves. Also, Jason and Michael barely interacted in this fight. We were focusing too much on the random camper. I get we’re trying to mimic the feel of the classic horror movies these two came from, but it just felt bare bones. But when they did fight, there were some cool moment too, like them always coming from the shadows or behind to attack one another and the final scene was pretty cool where they gone all out. But there were a lot of flaws with this episode. I like how they were in the woods telling scary stories and all, but it really didn't go anywhere for me to care too much. And the killing blow just felt so abrupt. I was expecting more blows to be dealt to each other. This goes back to my earlier point of these two interacting with each other. It’s especially disappointing since these are two killers who tend to draw out the agony of their victms. Having something like Jason taking multiple strikes to cut off Michael’s head would have been a lot more gruesome. Overall, probably a 4.5/10 for me atleast. Maybe a 5/10 if I rethink it, but I just wasn't a fan that much. Hope yall enjoyed my review lmao.

During my first time watching this episode, I was paying attention enough that the episode was doing good up until the fight itself. Then when it switched over to Joe Victim and he DIDN'T die from the axe straight into his back... I was already getting feelings that I wouldn't be as happy with the battle as I thought. Then I prepared myself some food, look back at the screen and see the final scuffle before the death which, I thought I missed a whole lot because it felt too quick. Then I rewatched it and found it was very much just as long as it was. Yeah, This Is probably the least favourite of the season for me. Even as someone who is usually optimistic about any death battle episode, regardless of the weirdness in the fight for as long as the battle felt fufilling enough... it didn't reach the minimum. It focused too much on the one victim (the first two we got were already good enough), thus making us see less of the actual fight between them. Worst of all, it feels like a re-tread of Freddy vs Jason; a special cross-over between two horror icons that is bogged down by the people that are added in to make a 'story'. In that comparison, it's technically worst as when Freddy and/or Jason had a brawl, it used abilities and the environment well enough to spark creativity. Heck, it gives me Blender Team flashbacks like Akuma Shao Kahn; A team that gave us a pretty good debut episode (Bond VS Wick) that sadly wasn't the best follow-up. Is Akuma Kahn worse than this? ...heck if I know. I personally would put both of these around the same spot. But at least with the former it was a cool kind of match that didn't realistically have too many pre-hype for people. THIS was a match people wanted for ages and it hurts more that it went down like this. It's unfortunate, but hopefully their next battle will be this team's return to greatness.

I knew leading up to the release of the episode that if it was made with anything aside from live action it was going to have action far too fast that fit these two, and once the fight started I was immediately worried how it was going to go. Even on my first watch where I wanted to be excited, I just could not stop noticing the jank and issues that showed throughout the fight. I agree with your perspective as someone who also highly anticipated this matchup, be it that it was the very thing that got me into this kind of debate format and one of my favorite things growing up. The fight had things it wanted to do but it felt way too fast and focused more on victims rather than the actual combatants themselves, which was rather disappointing. I do agree that they should have gone more into the analysis as well instead of reducing it to "they are similar in strength" because that's not even 100% true, Jason's far more frequently performed higher feats of strength than Michael because that's more the kind of killer he is - he's brute force, Michael wasn't about that and had far more mystique to him. (Ignoring how Rob Zombie chose to handle him) I appreciate the result and what they were going for but it left me longing for more, that's all. Good review!

My best guess is that the point of that long ass pause at the end of the fight was to leave the audience in suspense and anxiously think to themselves "is that really it?" While I can appreciate that they tried to capture that sense of anxiety that the movies are known for, even that can't make a pause that long feel not awkward IMO.

As someone who's watched several Halloween movies and has been binging the Friday films, I did have a good time with this episode. I am severely disappointed that it wasn't a live action fight, but that's not enough for me to call the episode bad. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't horrible either. I just hope that if Chara vs Sonic.exe ever happens, they show the amount of potential this fight could've had.

Pretty much completely agree with you on this one. I get what they were trying to do with Joe Victim, capture the classic slasher atmosphere of taking the victims point of view to make the shit going down just out of view all the scarier, but between the janky face, inconsistent animations, and weirdly off model lighting, it just fell flat. Might have worked live action, but that's getting into what if's?

Part of me doesn’t want to keep thinking that when we have a 3D fight, we will have a coin flip for the animation. I wish I knew how to animate myself, and I know it can be a trifle and a half to do. But something about the animation in this fight just rubbed me the wrong way. All I can remember is how the guy turned into a looney tunes sketch after getting hit in the back with an axe. Yeah, that could be adrenaline, but it felt like they hit fast forward on him between him getting hit and him rushing into the car. All the while, the fight between our two slashers felt too short. Maybe because these two are so straightforward you can’t draw them out, but the length did rub me the wrong way since it felt like the fight ended a minute or two early and we needed Jason walking for 16 seconds in order to met the minimum run time or something. It was ok, but I am starting to dread some of the 3D fights since Boba vs Predator was what I thought was the most lackluster 3D fight this season, but now that’s been put into question.

So there is something i've just noticed with this season so far. we have had 3-4 3D battles this season with Harley vs jinx, boba fett vs john and now this and here me out on this one but has anyone else noticed a bit of a decline with the 3D animations this season, like Harley vs jinx was awesome and after that it seems that the 3D side of some of the battles just didn't hit the wow factor anymore. Don't get me wrong i like this Death Battle I love Jason to death (lol) and seeing Boba Fett go up against a Yautja sounded sick as fuck but that felt disappointing as well as here. just a little scuffle between these 2 TITANS of horror just isn't enough for either of them considering (yes i do see this as a factor) Freddy vs Jason had those 2 fight for a while after freddy was brought into the real world and they Threw hands like no tomorrow, i was expecting a fight like that where they have a scuffle to start, get a few kills on the randos who are in the way before having a dragged out bloody showdown leaving 1 killer dead and the other so bloodied up from the fight that when they walk off it looks terrifying. and we didn't get that here sadly which did stink a bit but i did like how they used friday part 3 Jason from his game and the Dead by Daylight Michael model (i think). what we did get was good but like you said before like many other people do want more sometimes and i thought Jason vs Michael was a perfect way to do halloween this year and i hope if we do get another Horror character in DB again that it is a banger.

I literally have no personal connection to either of these two beyond Jason being in Mortal Kombat X. I'm not a horror movie guy...at all so I had no real connection with these and as a result, fairly middling expectations. But I will admit, I was still on board for this. The matchup was still interesting. New series representation is always a plus on DB. And horror characters especially villains are still a rarity for this show. But without question, after watching it, I felt insanely underwhelmed. Somehow this episode was shorter than the joke episode that came out right before. And fair enough, Jason and Michael aren't exactly the most versatile characters on the show- there's only so much you can talk about but that should've been their excuse to do a more thorough breakdown of the base stats like you said. How much force would it take to cut through metal or skulls? How much TNT would it take to blow up a church? We don't know. And the fight...the fight really is just a big letdown. Despite both being advertised as creative killers capable of turning anything into a lethal weapon, we only get 3 weapons aside from their signature weapons: the fireaxe, the body that Jason throws at the start, and the tombstone...like, what? Like, I wasn't expecting a vat of liquid nitrogen to just be hanging around at a camp but surely you could've done more. How does Jason have ranged weapons when Michael doesn't? Doesn't Jason just throw shit at fleeing people to stop em like rocks or knifes? By that logic, wouldn't Michael be just as much of a ranged fighter? And how do ranged weapons keep Michael at bay when he can just teleport? Like, this whole thing just feels so sloppy. The amount of times the ending analysis not reflecting what actually happens in the animation is somehow giving Fett vs. Predator a run for it's money. Ngl, this is probably the new low of the season for me. And that's sad. I was totally on board for something different but this episode definitely needed a few more minutes to feel complete. But yeah, great video Nem. It was nice to hear an actual Friday/Halloween fan comment on this episode and it's nice to know I wasn't just making up problems in my head- other people are noticing this stuff.

I feel like the concept of the fight happening while they hunt down their victims could work, but only if the victims take a back seat once they start actually fighting, kinda like Freddy vs Jason, but with less characters being launched a hundred feet back by a casual swing

To me, everything felt so half assed and rushed in this episode, it's odd how we had an amazingly animated battle with Spongebob and Aquaman but then we get a terrible animated mess in this battle, I also hate the fact that they used the wrong Jason model for the animation as well Michael vs Jason Fan Films did a much more better job in doing much better fights, and staying in Character between these two, no offense to the person who animated this fight but this animation did not give this fight justice, it's super odd how one of my most requested fights ends up being one of my most least favorite

I did enjoy the episode, I thought it was good enough, but maaan that animation should've been a minute longer, or at most THIRTY SECONDS. I personally didn't mind the way they went with it, a fight that feels out of an actual slasher film sounds great, and the execution is great for the most part. But if you're going to have a matchup that's been requested for 10+ years, you gotta pull out the big guns in the fight man. My one complaint about this almost perfect season so far is the length of some of the fights. The reason why Black Adam vs Apocalypse feels short is because it's only a three minute animation, but there's a lot of time dedicated to the startup of the fight and the death, not leaving a whole lot of actual fighting there. To put that into perspective, Dio vs Alucard had almost four minutes of animation, so when the characters actually fight, it feels like a fight. Jason vs Michael also had a three minute fight animation. I know that animation costs a lot, but some of the extra budget should've been spent on this episode to make the fight longer. And I'm not even a fan of these movies, I haven't seen them. But even then I know about how long people wanted this matchup, and seeing it become less than a minute of actual fighting and mainly about some guy running around that we don't care about feels like a punch to the gut man. All in all, I actually liked this episode, I thought the kill was very cool, and the stuff they did well in the fight really stuck out. I just wished they prioritized thier budget better with this one, since it's technically the shortest Death Battle episode we've gotten in a while. Remove the ad reads and it clocks in around 15 minutes. Didn't hate the episode, just a bit disappointed.

I was personally really hoping for a shot early into the fight where Jason and Michael stab each other in the abdomen with their weapons and do the head tilt to each other when they don't die from it. While there was other things I was really hoping for in the fight, like it going into any building at all, that was the number one thing I was wishing they would add into the fight to match the campyness of the later movies without it feeling out of character for either one of them.

I think there are subtle references to the video games that both characters are in during the Joe Victim sequence Michael hits an (what looks like) uninjured Joe and he gets a burst of sprint away, which is what happens when a survivor is hit in DbD Jason rips Joe out of the car and chokes him, both being more key parts shown in the Friday the 13th game Correct me if I’m wrong but thats what my impression of those sequences were

Yeah this was a massive disappointment. As you said the action felt so off and Mr. Victim just ended up taking time away from what we came for. The worst part for me honestly was the camera. It's like the camera guy got hopped up on coke or sugar. I really hate shakey cam and it was used in the worst way. I'd like to SEE what's going on, not try and picture it myself.

Overall I give this episode either a 6 or a 7. I mostly wanted to see all the touches they would add to a fight between these two, a gory suspenseful kill, and to just see them in character (which something like Boba Fett vs Predator didn’t provide for my pred boi….I’m gonna live in depression knowing that’s the weakest episode of the season…also last mention of it I promise) and for the most part I was satisfied, but they really should’ve just gave us more of…well, the titular fight….oh yeah also here’s hoping Sauron vs Arthas is pretty cool, I’m oddly pretty hyped for it despite me not really being a big fantasy guy, let alone for Tolkien or Warcraft.

I think Death Battle spent less time on Jason vs Michael, resulting in it being a janky mess, so that they can pour more budget and time onto Sauron vs Litch King. Mainly because that type of fight definitely requires a lot of effects work and relies heavily on being pure spectacle. But that's just what I think.

Slasher fights are structured way differently to regular fights, they should have tested the waters with something less hyped like Pinhead vs Tallman or something. And then learnt from that to make Jason vs Michael

I think the bigger problem is the duration, is just 15 minutes long the full episode, the another episodes are aprox 18 minutes long, they can use 1 and half minute more to explain more feats and the other 1 and half in the animation, or just 3 minutes to feats and analysis and just cut the final walk and joe victim time in the animation to more jason vs Michael.

I do have a few grievances with the final analysis with this fight and I would love your thoughts. -When the show states that Jason has experience in fighting supernatural foes like Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, and Jason X, it should be said that Leatherface isn’t supernatural by any means… and Jason didn’t actually win any of those fights. Leatherface beat Jason, Jason’s fight with Freddy seemed to end in more of a stalemate (with outside interference with humans), and Jason X beating the original Jason. Not sure why they brought any of this up. - when they said that the only reason Michael faked his death was because he wouldn’t survive being decapitated seems like a stretch. Are they implying Michael can predict the future or something and plan for something like that situation? -And I doubt that Jason can heal from everything. Like Michael, I’m sure decapitation would stop Crystal Lake’s killer. As seen in Freddy vs Jason vs Ash part 2

Honestly ever since I learned this was a fight people wanted, I was a against it because of how cut and dry it felt. Even if we took away all of the reboots, the extra material, all of that, Jason has survived more punishment and dealt more out than Michael ever had. That said, aside from Trunks VS. Silver this was my favorite episode in this half of the season. It was surprisingly well researched and utilized the more campfire story feel to both characters branching canons quite well, and while it was janky, the animation was leagues better than Boba Fett VS. The Predator and James Bond VS. John Wick. I’m not overly excited for the next fight because I would have preferred Ganondorf to fight Sauron, but I also know this was the much more likely opponent for The Lord of the Ring.

I think the 16 second shot of Jason walking a way was "a little too long" on purpose, as with what broomstick said directly at the start of the post fight analysis held true, you can never be too careful. Not being a super fan I wasn't sure if the headless body of Micheal was somehow gonna get back up...

This is nowhere near as bad as Blake vs Mikasa or Akuma vs Shao Khan. I personally loved it, but still have it at 10th in my season ranking. Though that’s a testament to this season in general than a negative feeling towards this episode.

I will say the speed of the fight probably came down to how much the animator was charging per second or however they do that. Budget thing so they made it quick and short rather than giving it the kind of length and speed it should have had. Not to mention the animation overall is really stiff in general. Looks like someone self-taught in Source Filmmaker and in the stage where they're past the ragdolls and noodle limbs but not at the smoother, more natural motions yet.

I think it was one of the best deathbattles of them all, because they didnt overscale the characters this time. Instead it felt like an accurate representation of what a fight between these characters would look like.

I think the main thing that disappointed me about the DB was how much they downplayed Jason's brute strength and Michaels speed by making all thier physical stats equal, when if you look at both these characters feats, they clearly don't have equal strength and speed. I think the fight would have been better if they actually showed Jason's strength and stamina advantage over Michael, so we would see Mike using more of his speed, cunning, and intellect advantage over Jason in the fight.

Personally the final shot going on so long makes sense, especially with Boomstick even going “Ok are we _sure_ he’s dead?” Because yeah, obviously he was. But, it makes sense to fake people out and think he somehow did survive; especially if you know little about Halloween.
