In this video I'm sharing one of the ways I would play country rhythm guitar over the Ray Price classic tune Heartaches by the Number. Country shuffles are a super popular country music feel and every guitarist should know how to play rhythm on tunes like this.

Fender Partscaster

Hey ☺️ How about covering the lead style that's used in Dwight's "blame the vain" . Most of it seems to start in a bend then go to the natural note. It's very cool but not easy to do 🤔 thanks

Nice compliment to your TrueFire lessons I'm working with. Appreciate your professionalism, no beer, no wine, no begging for 'the tip jar', no cursing, no pushing gear - let those other guys fall into those traps. Thanks for all you do that help us play better. Your heads above the rest.

Full disclosure. I'm learning the ukulele, both tenor and baritone. Most guitar videos are pretty useless, but this was hands down the most practical instructional video I've seen yet. Merci from your most recent sub.

Great stuff, Jason! I stumbled on your video as I was researching a country shuffle I'm writing, and you've given me some great ideas! Thank you! As an FYI... the shuffle feel is actually based on triplets (1 - and - a - 2 - and - a), although it's often written as a dotted-eighth, sixteenth. But dotted-eighth, sixteenth is a different feel (think Willie's On The Road Again). So if someone is struggling getting the shuffle feel just right (or trying to Quantize it), think triplets instead. Anyway, thank you for your video... very helpful! You've earned a Like and a Follow.

That rhythm reminds me of the more staccato jamaican ska feel.

My exact thoughts - whilst the rest of the instrumentation obviously isn't in that vein, it's a ska rhythm guitar part, through & through!

I love country shuffles! I grew up hearing this kind of music quite a bit since my Dad was a huge fan of this type of honkytonk music from guys like Ray Price, Earnest Tubb, etc. One of my favorite modern bands that does style so well is the Mavericks. Awesome stuff as usual Jason!

Very nice lesson! My biggest takeaway is how you built that inbetween lick using the 5th, 6th and 2nd 3rd variants

I wish you'd say what triads you're playing.. from the left hand had position it looks like you're playing strings 2,3,4 vice 1,2,3. Does it make any difference?

I do say every triad I play along with inversions. Maybe you missed it

It makes sense to write a shuffle as 4/4, but in my head I've always been more comfortable thinking 12/16. Anyone else out there who does that?
@JasonLoughlinMusic
@JasonLoughlinMusic 7 ай бұрын
We write shuffles in 4/4 for country music and just indicate that it’s a shuffle by writing it on the chart or saying it to a band. You do feel shuffles as 12/8 though

No putdown sincerely; but I don't understand why guitar teachers show you stuff in Bb.

Um because in the real world you actually have to play in Bb. Also Heartaches By The Number is in Bb. I like to try to prepare my students for the real world not more KZbin videos. Now you know ;)

Guitarists need to break out of only being able to play in the sharp keys. Play some standards with horn players. You’ll be playing in F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db etc. It’s good for you.
@JasonLoughlinMusic

I mean you don't even need to bother with standards. Tons of country standards are in flat keys. Know your fretboard@@alexandergriggs9934
