I have got into design only 2weeks ago as my close friend, who I saw as one of the best designers, suddenly passed away. We were working on a new business project together and I now owe it to him to make it a success. I have watched this challenge series about 6 times over the last few days to learn from scratch how to use Illustrator CC. I did not make the pug head but instead used the tutorials to create my own PS4 controller as one of the first pieces of work my friend posted to Dribbble was a design of an Xbox controller. You have been a massive help to me Jason during what I can only describe as a really tough time. I can't wait to continue my learning through your great videos and use them to help me grow our business. Thank you.

Hey Jason, quick question. Say you go all through these steps, but you give it say to a client and they want idk, say they want the nose different or something. I find when I go back to my ink layer and change something it just throws everything off. Is there an easy way to go back and edit? Do you ever just have to start all over again?
@JasonSecrest5 жыл бұрын
You should just be able to add on to the value/color layer below with the cutouts. Usually there are the holes with live paint ( you can color without selecting the floating objects so you don’t have gaps under areas you might edit later)

I did have a question. Once it done. Do you ever flatten the artwork? What is the best way to export the character and background? thanks for the response in advance.
@JasonSecrest5 жыл бұрын
I will leave all of the layers so I can come back later to edit. If I was exporting, I copy all of the layers to a new one before grouping and exporting. As soon as you export to a png or jpeg it is flattened anyway.

I always get to this point and when i select my area the entire image plus the outlines get selected. I dont get what im doing wrong...

I separate each layer (lines, flat color, values, and gradients) while I am building. So when I select all, only the color is on that layer. You can also use the Magic Wand to select the color layer if you have your lines and colors on the same layer. Remember to duplicate the flat color layer (expand live paint) to add the gradients (not the value layer) that has already been cut up.
