Started on an old hand me down classical guitar. When I stepped up to an electric my finger picking and hybrid picking was insane compared to my friends who started on electric. Everyone has their opinion feel and comfort to the guitarist is important. Great advice you may change the pick you like so true. Books are great to learn with always and have something to reference. Nice video with great advice.

showing A minor to a minor....epic!!! but seriously starting on an acoustic is the main reason for starting players to quit....when starting out it shouldn't be a struggle, it should more or less effortless......in my opinion starting on an acoustic is the worst advice to give...........sad to say my journey started on an acoustic aswell...so there's that.........anyways, nowadays there are a lot of cheaper end acoustics that basically mid tier quality, they are getting better at making acoustics cheaper and thats a very good thing because starting out on a piece of crap thats cheap your experience will be terrible....awesome video Jason

I definitely can relate to your point about electrics being more inspiring to start on with the ease and playability. But that’s why I went with my friend to pick out an acoustic that was going to be easy for him to play, and the one he got was perfect (heck, I’d even it for live gigs!) To me, there’s just something about the rawness of starting that way. I see it the same as starting out learning to use proper form with free weights as opposed to starting on a machine where it’s easier. Of course, a lot of that is because that was my own journey so I’m a bit biased. And yeah, it doesn’t seem there are far more quality acoustics reasonably priced that my early days!

I have different views on that. I like to see people start with the very basics. I wanted to start out playing metal right away, but I learned the basics on acoustic. That put me further ahead when I got my first electric But in Lou's case here, he wanted to play acoustic anyway

Hi Jason, question for ya or anyone else here with an answer. I just purchased a Jackson Dinky Arch Top JS34 DKA guitar and it came with these really smooth almost nylon looking/feeling strings? Are these just temporary strings to be replaced when you get the guitar home? Should I keep them or replace them? They feel amazing, so smooth!
@jasonstallworth
@jasonstallworth 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not familiar with that particular guitar but nylon strings are normally used for classical style guitars. That’s cool but if it’s not a classical guitar, I’d put regular strings on it.

That's a good point, dude. Yeah, sometimes people will give up because they don't like the guitar. But that's why I recommend getting a quality acoustic, even if you're just starting out. Going cheap is going to kill your motivation.
