I really love the way you explain theory. I've been playing for about 5yrs never formally trained I play by ear. So to hear you explain it and show it really helps me grow. Just wanted you to know that I appreciate you.

Glad this helped! I learned by ear as well but it’s funny how you inadvertently learn some of the theory as you go!

Something to add here, The amazing thing about learning the minor scale is once you learned the minor scale you can play it anywhere depending on your starting note. And if you learn the other four shapes in the traditional 'box' patterns you can shift around everywhere. Bonus points if you learn the seven 3NPS shapes. I'd love to see how you approach connection all the pattern shapes and phrasing ideas.

Great addition. I honestly never think about scales, shapes, patterns, etc. I really try to pay attention to what I’m hearing in my head and allow that to come out freely on the fretboard. For me, it usually starts with some sort of melody I’m hearing and I take it from there

"Hounds" by Savatage uses this scale. One of my favorite songs. The scale approach to these lessons with power chord variations and multiple positions etc. is very productive. Cheers!

Ah, Savatage! I remember Ed (from Siren) sharing the story of when they opened for them in the late 80s!

I personally like to double the 5th on the 6th string when playing power chords with root on the 5th string. It makes everything sound darker :)
@jasonstallworth10 күн бұрын
That does give it a darker sound!

that C#/A sounds amazing, its a A7 . (A, C#, E, B) in 1st inversion.

I’ve always loved that sound and feel with those chords

@@jasonstallworth I think it gives it more space in your version than in a regular 7 chord shape. 👍 i will be using it.

The slight different in same notes on different strings could be 'timbre' perhaps!

Yeah those subtle differences can inspire different riffs and styles
