Thank you for your amazing review Jason. The crop at 4k 60p sucks me a lot becase the job Im doing I need a wide lens. I was wondering if you can do a review of the Sony a7IV at 4k60 using the sony apsc lens 10-18mm f4. can it work? can you test the sharpeness and the quality of image ? I'm looking for a solution with this 1.5x croping. Thank you!! Peace :)

15:34 it's because you don't zoom the images to the same level ... I can't believe how many pros make that mistake. You can see the A7iii is zoomed back compared to the A7iv here, therefore it benefits from more surface and less visible noise, whereas the A7iv is handicapped because you zoom more in the image. Make the images look exactly the same size and THEN compare the noise.

4K 60fps is cropped because a technical limitation not because Sony didn't want to give it to us. With the 33megapixel sensor the readout is slow so it creates rolling shutter, and everyone is pointing that on this camera rolling shutter is worst than on the A7III. As it is the A7IV already have a compromise on the 4K 30fps, do you really think they could do 4K60fps on this camera with the full sensor read? With a new processor that might happen.... I think this camera is very good option! Everything I see makes sense to me, even the 4K60p in crop mode makes sense to me. Thanks for the video!
@DaveStern23 жыл бұрын
Exactly. If a faster sensor read is needed, you need one of the more expensive models. This one already has the same processor as A1, it's just that the sensor does as much as it can at that price point. That's the trade-off for more pixels and therefore more data.

@Speak_Out_and_Remove_All_Doubt3 жыл бұрын
Great video Jason thanks, my biggest disappointment about this camera (given the sizable price increase) was that Sony didn't manage to squeeze in a stacked sensor to once again cement them as the mirrorless leaders, offering cutting edge features at a great price like so many A series models have done before it. Sony could have still kept the A7iv artificially capped at 10fps to protect the A9 and A1 sales but I think to have quite a sizable rolling shutter and probably a nasty banding issue too when shooting in silent shutter mode is unacceptable at $2500 in what is essentially 2022. I would love to see some silent shutter banding tests, maybe a comparison shootout against the A9i which is actually the same price as the A7iv and so makes for a very interesting proposition!
@Mary2020Jane3 жыл бұрын
Jason does the best job at explaining this. I use my a7iii for video and love it. Three things might make me jump to a7iv: flip out screen, higher resolution LCD screen (the screen in a7iii is surprisingly poor resolution), and the dust protection mechanism (even when I store my camera in a closet, dust keeps entering the a7iii sensor). And I would add the improved menu navigation and buttons are huge too.

Was excited when I saw this review on my homepage. Great video as always!! As an a6400 user I really eventually want to get into a full frame camera. This one really feels like the logical choice (although a little bummed about the 4K 60 crop). I do think I’ll need to wait a bit to save a justify spending this much on a camera but I don’t think there is a better option for my use in the Sony lineup.
@sidehustlers3362 жыл бұрын
I came from the A6400 as well. I was waiting for an improved APS-C camera, then the A74 came out. I thought the 4K 60 was great because i have some good crop glass I can use for video. The Sigma Trio and the Tamron 11-20mm. Ill be using the tamron for slow mo real estate videos at 4K 60. So the greatthing is you can use your current lenses for 4K 60 stabilized, much better quality video.

As an FX3 user, these specs and price point make me pretty happy. I'm using the A6600 and A7iii as my B and C cams, and they're plenty adequate for my needs for now. But when the time does eventually come to replace one or both of em, the A7iv will be a perfect choice. I won't need high frame rate options or anything crazy fancy, but having 4:2:2 10 bit, same menu system, and on occasion S-Cinetone (although I'm 90% S-Log3), is perfect. And it'll be a great stills camera for the rare times I'm taking stills. So for my future use case, I'm very pleased with what this camera is offering.

NEED HELP!!!!!! I have 4 Sony A7IV issues/questions to solve before a big paid gig coming up!!!!! Keep up the great work Jason, just started watching you recently when I was thinking of replacing my X-T4. Note: I just received this camera two days ago from B&H along with the Sony 20mm 1.8 and the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8. I am an event and portrait hybrid shooter partially switching over from Fuji mainly because of the better autofocus, the unlimited recording time, the better lens selection and the higher megapixels. I have two X-T4 bodies with several of their best lenses and accessories I'm going to sell one X-T4 now, if the upcoming X-T5 can compete with the A7IV, especially autofocus, then I might stay with Fuji, if not, then I'm selling ALL my Fuji gear and buying another A7IV or one of their higher flagship models. Fuji are you reading this??????????????? 1. When I connect my OSEE 4k external monitor via HDMI to my brand new Sony A7IV, the monitor works great but now I can't get my LCD screen to work at the same time so I can have touch focus and touch tracking during video shooting. The LCD screen just totally goes black every time the monitor is connected. I'm looking all over the internet and KZbin for a fix, can anybody suggest the right settings that can help me out please? 2. I can't get my Crane S2 to connect with my A7IV via the USB cable, all I really want is for the record button function on the gimble to work, everything else would just be a nice bonus. I read somewhere that it might not be possible to have both an external HDMI output and USB connectivity with the Crane S2 simultaneously. Any experts out there know the real deal???? 3. I experienced a really weird bug already on just the 2nd day of practice shooting. My record button for video just wouldn't do anything, the camera was apparently just staying in standby mode, it was just displaying the green "STBY" message in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, everything looked completely normal on the LCD but I just could not record any video. I switched over to photos and that was fine. Turning the camera on and off did not work either. The only fix was dropping the battery out of the camera for a few and then when I put it back in everything was fine regarding video recording, this was weird and does not really give me a lot of confidence so far with the A7IV? Anybody else experience this weird bug? Sony are you reading this????????????? This issue got me to thinking about number 4 below. 4. Is there a newer firmware out there yet for the A7IV? My camera's currently at 1.00, if there is, what is the link? Thanks for reading this book too, I really appreciate any and all feedback from my NEW Sony Homies! 😆 "Z"

Wait a minute there! Just noticed that on the AutoFocus test 7:44 , there is a difference where the initial focus is ( on the A7III the focus is on the furthest background and on the A7IV it is somewhere halfway through on a branch of tree) which can result in the autofocus speed to look faster in the A7IV case. @Whatashek3 жыл бұрын
@@noahjoseph5714 the biggest upgrade for the A74 in my opinion are of course the megapixels, but it is the flip out screen which is a huge. Other than that, the a7iii is more than adequate to get the job done for weddings, engagement shoots and social events. The lens is more important than the body, especially for resell value which stays consistent as time passes by. I mean if you can afford the A74, by all means, go for the best. But for the majority of us, it's not a necessity, a good lens and a constant willingness to go out and practice shooting and understanding the variables of photo editing are key to becoming a proper photographer. Don't use the hype of a new camera body to justify you being a good photographer. A good driver isn't a good driver solely because the car is expensive but because you develop the necessary skills to become better as you practice and learn from your mistakes.

Great review Jason! The 4k 60 crop is a deal breaker. My wish list included an adjustable MP for post workflow and some sort of improved app integration which unfortunately did not make it. With the A7SIII out for more than a year now, the used market has it for $2900-3200 versus a new A7IV for 2499 + tax ($2719 for NY), it might be more beneficial to add a bit more to get the premium benefits of the A7SIII, especially for the video shooter.

I feel like all these KZbinrs are scared to talk bad about this camera because then they won’t get to review the next ones. 4k/60 crop is UNACCEPTABLE in 2021. Sony and Canon both suffer from restricting their cameras to validate their cinema lineup. Sadly it takes Nikon as a way smaller company way to long to come out with decent competition for a camera like this. Z9 is awesome, but we need a smaller camera like the a7iv from Nikon. That camera will not be restricted because Nikon doesn't have a cinema lineup.

THE Perfect allrounder ... and so many lenses available for e mount. But of course also the a7III is still a really good option for a good price if you get with some discount or cashback etc.

If you're a video shooter you can buy the A7siii for 3100 on BH with a student discount. I would go that route at this price

yes if you are more than 65% video get the S line. this is a basic all around camera but nit video centric. use the right tool for the right job. S for video/low light. R for hi-res pro fashion and landscapes. a9/a1 for pro sports / wildlife. A7iii or a7iv for everything else thats basic (street, portraits, walk around, travel, every day, wedding, etc etc)

I'll likely sell my A7III to upgrade to this camera. It has most of the features I want and a long time coming. I'm more of a photocentric guy, that occasionally shoot home videos, so 4k60 crop video is fine for me, but I can see why other users are upset. I felt like they withheld 4K60 full to create clear distinction between their lineups and maybe to prevent overheating and a shorter shooting limit. I wonder if the better approach would have been to provide 4k60 crop with no time limit and 4k60 full but with a recording time limit as a compromise. Maybe, just maybe with a firmware update. I think OG A7III are gonna split on their upgrade path. I feel like more photocentric people are gonna lean towards the A7RIV or even wait for the A7RV, and video centric people are gonna go towards the A7SIII. With some like me going for the direct A7IV.

I have no money so I'm keeping my a7iii , there are a lot of nice upgrades but I still don't have too many issues with my camera. I think most of the upgrades are cosmetic and with customization . The photo video quality is about the same

hi Jason. big fan Of u from Bangladesh. may I ask u a question? Is there any possibility that sony add 4k 60 no crop in the future with a firmware update?

Great review! I haven't seen anyone compare the A7IV vs the A7 RIV, they're all either 7III or A1. Any chance of a comparison for people who are more photo inclined vs. hybrid?

would be nice

@Edmond Xhaferi I went from A7III to A7IV after considering the R IV and don’t regret it. There’s a bunch of nice quality of life changes that the RIV doesn’t have (that the A7RV will probably get whenever that comes out)

Oh you have a Mazda, my kind of guy! In other words, just bought an A7C and I'm sticking to it (just getting into photography as a hobby). Otherwise for professional work this camera looks like the best price/value wise.

Been binging on your videos and have been going down the rabbit hole from buying the sigma 18-50mm and then contemplating of upgrading my body (have a6000). Beeb loving the videos! What I am really curious about is what are those small clips/dongles/clips that are connected on your strap holds? Been super curious about them

I complained hell of a lot about the video file names and its done now. Wish they would upgrade the firmware of my Sony A5100 to the new filename system.

yeah so so so good. unexpected "delighter" upgrade there for sure. Sony was using the "KANO Model" when they did that one for sure.
