Crazy that everybody hates the EVF. I never had issues with the EVF of the a6000 and I feel like the EVF of my friends a6300 is like a revolution. The a6700s EVF must look awesome for me!
@banditalley9592 Жыл бұрын
That's exactly the problem - everyone just compares "stats". Photographers just get on with it, but fanboys/haters just want to compare megapixels/sensor size/screen resolution. The point is, like you have said, just use these things and experience them for what they are - tools. Tools to do a job and allow your creativity to come to life. If you compare your A6000 to an A6400 you will see a huge gain, but if you compare your sensor to the professional Canon 1Ds MkII I was shooting weddings on in 2006 then your A6000 would look awesome. The 1Ds MkII was a $3500 camera body at the time with 16MP and a screen on the back like a postage stamp. It never stopped me doing 75x50cm canvases and putting together sharp and detailed wedding albums. Enjoy the camera for what it can do for you rather than seeing if the grass is greener somewhere else. Incidentally, you would be hard pushed to tell the difference between the A6700 and A6000 image quality on a correctly exposed image with a good lens.

Haven't got one to try the viewfinder. I do do fine with the Nex6 and later A6400 finders. For a while , younger then, I wasn't always wearing glasses and then couldn't deal with only a rear panel finder. Now, I'm using varifocals and viewfinders are still problematic in some ways. My A7Riv is a clearly better finder. It's a bigger and was a $3000 or so camera, too. While some just don't like them I'd expect there are no small number that have a great deal of trouble with these finders and more so with the A7C.

As a filmmaker, from what I've seen, I think the a6700 would make a great b-cam to my FX30. The a6700 has the same dual base ISO sensor as the FX30. It may have only one SD card slow, but, that's not really a deal breaker for me. I use high quality SD cards from SanDisk, ProGrade and Sony Tough cards, all v90. And at $1,400, it's really a no brainer.

Both a6700, R7, and XS20 are great cameras. Although im not really into these type of content creation focused cameras. I am more on the photography side. I guess the most interesting thing about these releases are there are more grumnblings against the a6700, when we can consider how it has better rolling shutter and video dynamic range than the r7. It also has the best video autofocus and lens breathing compensation, compared to the low performance of fujis when it comes to autofocus. And lastly the lens options; you cant beat sony when it comes to 3rd party lenses. I believe all of these 3 cameras are great and theres no need to grumble too much against the a6700 which is in my opinion the better choice if your mainly a content creator and not just focused on photography. Sony could have done better but the a6700 can go against the r7 and xs20.

or or… hear me out. Save for both you get two cameras still under the price of a fx3 and you get two cameras that are each geared differently for what they specialize in. Having a mechanical shutter was enough of a reason for me to get the a6700 for photos, but I didn’t see a need to sell my fx30… for interviews or longer projects, you still have a camera you can be stress free about. AND now you have two cameras so now you can get a second angle for some videos since they have the same sensor and log format it makes color grading easy if you decide to do videos. FX30 just feels more premium and w features like dual card slots it can be used for “professional” gigs also worry free knowing you have a backup file. Great video! figured I’d share my experience as it’s still cheaper than some full frames and their lenses.

I work with cinema cameras at my corporate job and I'm starting to branch out on my own, I think I'm getting the 6700 mainly because if I get a gig with an interview, I'll shoot 30 in air conditioning, if not then I'll rent. When you consider that a built in fan is also a weak point in harsher weather, humidity and sand at the beach, weather sealing makes sense for run and gun work. I think the upgrade path for me is gonna be a6700 to compliment my A7iv, rent rent rent then Boom! Ronin 4D 8k, then rent rent rent and BAM Sony Venice 2. I don't anticipate making it to the Venice but for a dual camera set up, having full frame and Apsc is a nice way to double your focal lengths on glass you already own and by the time I build out an fx6 for myself or something, there'll be a new $10k cinema camera on the block. Don't underestimate the power of an APSC lens selection. It's so lightweight compared to some of the camera's I've worked with. At the end of the day, does the client like their video?

All right, maybe you can help me specifically because I'm still torn here. Use case: I'm a youtuber who rarely takes photos. I'm currently using an A6400 on a tripod in a teleprompter enclosure. We manually focus (I found the AF "breathing" distracting and could never get it to stop doing that...I'm also a noob. :p). The camera generally works great, unless we have batch shooting days where it will overheat in the teleprompter enclosure unless we shoot a 30-40 minute video, stop, let it cool for 15-20 minutes, then shoot the next. We're also in the process of launching a longer video podcast (eps of an hour or more) so I worry about the overheating issues. I was all set to go with the FX30 (even though it's complete overkill for the talking head videos I do) but I like the 6700's flexibility. But again, I basically never shoot photos. Any opinion on which is the better choice for this use case scenario? Thanks for the great video!

Overheating is a total dealbreaker. If camera states that is has unlimited video recording function, then this function MUST just work, and not only at 22C, but across entire operating temperature range specified in specs. Imagine if a photographer's camera during wedding ceremony or sport event or any other shoot would suddenly overheat and he'd be like "wait, all don't move, hold on for a minute". It will display on both the atomos and a6700 LCD screen. Make sure HDMI Info Display is turned Off.

Contemplating swapping my AX700 camcorder for the A6700. Any opinions ?
@careylymanjones Жыл бұрын
Should be a nice upgrade. One thing to remember is to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS check your sensor, after swapping lenses. And always bring sensor-cleaning gear. Shooting all day and coming home to find you had a dust bunny on your sensor is a bummer.
@Kristianh14 Жыл бұрын
@@careylymanjones Great advice ! Appreciate it thank you ! I've got a normal DSLR too but hear the new mirrorless cameras are dust magnets
@careylymanjones Жыл бұрын
@@Kristianh14 Dust magnets, no. But it is an issue, particularly for video shooters. Dust isn't THAT big a problem for stills shooters, as dust removal in post is simple, a mater of a couple of clicks. But dust can ruin a video.

How difficult is it to come up with the camera that has all the features of both cameras, one that has an EVF with mechanical shutter, and doesn't overheat?

a7S III, a7 IV, a1 - just comes with a higher price tag 😅
@PuReXtremeGaming Жыл бұрын
@@JasonVongwhy is the a7s III so highly priced over the newer cameras such as the a7iv? Also I heard IV has rolling shutter and 60 crop which a6700 doesn't which makes it better probably? I need something good for gym lit space inside the gym

i’m kind of new to cameras - the 6700 wouldn’t do no overheating taking pictures or am i wrong ?

You don't need to worry about any overheating for photography

I have the a6600, is there a huge difference in the two camera, I shoot photography only,would you upgrade
@careylymanjones Жыл бұрын
How happy are you with the A6600's AF? If you're ok with the A6600's AF, there's probably no rush. There are a couple of nice-to-have features, though. Focus bracketing is handy for macro work. You can stack the bracketed images in post. Focus mapping is kind of cool, to show you how much is in focus, when you're shooting MF. The A6700's backlit sensor is probably better, if you shoot a lot, in low-light. If you shoot a lot in low-light or you're unhappy with the A6600's AF, upgrade. Otherwise, there's no rush.
@HSNG10 Жыл бұрын
I would not upgrade from a6600 to a6700 if you are only doing photography. The only significant upgrade would be AI AF and a better BSI sensor for higher 26MP photo and iso performance. I am thinking of upgrading as there are significant upgrades for video.

Photo only, I might not. I have an a6400 which has the smaller battery and no IBIS. The bigger battery is a plus for consistency with my ff but no IBIS hasn't been a problem. I'm considering it for the enhanced focus system and video capabilities. Things like the new menu system or external controls, I'm used to what I have.
@rsmith02 Жыл бұрын
For photography only? Not unless I want a second body. The lossless compressed raw may help with low-light photos and artifacts. The menus are improved. The front dial would be useful. I just handled one and it's quite similar to the a6600.

I have Xperia too, can you advise is the zv-e10 i have going to be better in indoor low light then my Xperia 1 IV with a f1.8 on 24mm which HDR looks very bright but when I screenshot it it looks dark as.. what lens should I get for the zv-e10 for the sharpest video in low light inside the gym

@graphguy Жыл бұрын
FX30 wins in one area hands down - overheating. I'm a hybrid shooter, BUT..........need my camera to shoot nonstop 4k/60 in the sun for 2+ hours. The 6700 can't even come close to doing that.

Hi Jason, I love your reviews. I currently have the a6600 and have been thinking hard about upgrading. I film mostly deer hunting so i deal with alot of low light outdoor conditions inside the woods. I really am wanting that 4k120fps for slow motion. However, my biggest issues are my a6600 does seem to struggle very bad in low light conditions and it’s tough to see what I’m recording without the flip out screen on a camera arm. That being said, the 1.5x crop on aps-c kind of helps to reach in further distances without a ginormous lens. The low light capability is an issue. I’m not against going to a full frame however I’m already invested in a few apps-c lenses. I’m 80-20 video and really want the best cinematic yet low light features i could get. Anywhere from the 6700, ZV-E1, Canon R5, lumix S5ii, A7Siii, etc. Would the 6700 even be a low light upgrade? Or is the only route full frame with that bigger sensor from the a6600 One thing i have in mind with the Sony vs canon cameras, if i went full frame then canon could make up that 1x5 crop range with the 10x clear image zoom vs Sonys 1x5…. I’m still learning so please correct me with your thoughts or any input you may have.

Two disagreements 1 form factor is actually bigger defeating the lightweight apsc purpose plus crop better for weddings reach Cheers anyways 😊❤

But Jason, don't you think it shouldn't matter if a camera is used professional or just for personal use. Did you ever had a card failure after a trip you took and all your photos and videos you capture were gone. Its so sad to see that especially Sony, but also so many people agrueing that 2 card slots are only for professionals. But everybody of us invest some time in taking those shots or videos and when they are gone, they are most likely gone forever. And some or even most trips you can't reproduce so easily. Also we all put effort or time into making content creation or waiting for bird to capture, and then spending this time was all for nothing, cause you got only 1 card slot and little bit of bad luck that the card failed.
@rsmith02 Жыл бұрын
No, never had that. Only failures I had were 10 years ago where my Canon DSLR didn't work reliably with video and 64GB cards. Several hundred thousand photos and no losses related to failed CF or SD cards.
@JasonVong Жыл бұрын
I have considered that argument but I often hear from most casuals are already accustomed to 1 card slot or even no card slots at all (i.e. smartphones) so even thinking about having 2 card slots wouldn't even cross their minds. Some like us would see the benefits of having 2 card slots but most wouldn't rank it high on their list.

I am using the ZV-E10 but am annoyed by the screen-only construction. Taking photos is a pain. However the small form factor is nice. How much of a difference is the ZV-E10 compared to the a6700? Sometimes I am even annoyed to take my ZV with me when I dont mainly want to shoot video or photo.
