I just happened up on this video and I enjoyed it very much!!!!!! Thank you for posting it. I have lived in Jasper, Alabama all my life except for the time I went off to college in the 70s. I thought after I finished college that I wanted to settle in Nashville, Tennessee (which is where I went to college) but I'm glad I came back home and stayed.

I have lived in Jasper for 25 years. When I heard you say that we are living in a pre civil war mindset, I thought what are you talking about? I am originally from Sanford Florida (you know where Trayvon Martin was killed) and would much rather live in Jasper Alabama. When I go home to visit, I see people wearing Gator or Seminole shirts. I really don't understand what you where trying to imply. I own a business where I deal with all three ethnics that you spoke of. We treat everyone the same here, with kindness and respect. My granddaughter's best friend is of another race. I have a best friend of another race. Their are interracial families that are respected and well liked. BTW, I have recently had three Californians visit my business that have moved to Walker County, The last one said that North Alabama was a well kept secret. He said that everyone thinks we are missing teeth and talking about tornados but that they are wrong. I said, Well don't tell anybody! Let them think that way! So, y'all just keep thinking that way sweetie and the next time you feel like driving through Jasper, just stay on I-22. Gotta go, I have two customers coming in and they are black. I need to help them!

I believe your personal experience in just that YOURS! He is allowed to share HIS. I like yourself have lived in Florida (born and raised). There is absolutely racism here, however, you in my opinion don't get to tell someone what they experience. Now, the real question you may be asking is why I am making comments, and this is pertaining to Jasper, Al. Because I'm looking at property in Walker. Who knows maybe you'll run across me in your "business" but just remember your experiences don't reflect others! Florida isn't for everyone, we are not the "southern charm place', we have big mouths and keep it real.

I lived in a lot of places in my child support battle Jasper Sigh. She crazy
@naomismith6132
@naomismith6132 3 ай бұрын
It was segregated at the beach? You see what you want to see. Truth is, you're allowed to sit anywhere you want at the beach (like you can move to and live in any town you want). What you're witnessing is a phenomenon called HUMAN NATURE, which is to gravitate to what's familiar. It happens on a subconscious level a lot of time. By using the word segregated, you are insinuating that either (1) black people were asked to move away from white people, or (2) white people moved away from black people.... and all of this was based on the color of their skin. Hopefully by reading this, you now hear how ridiculous that is. People's assertions of racism have become a MUCH bigger problem than actual racism in this day and age.

I was in the Navy 1987 when my ship pulled into New York Harbor for fleet week & some liberty on the town. I was walking down the sidewalk when a group of young people stopped me, and one of them got in my face & said "ooh! White boys, I don't like white boys." I'm not on here spewing crap about New York because of that one experience. I live in Cordova & shop in jasper almost daily. I see mixed couples daily in jasper & nobody bats an eye at a woman with a mixed baby on her hip because it's so common it's nothing to see anymore. Racism is a problem in jasper Alabama because everyone here loves their own race because we're all the "human race."

Huntsville is 30% black. In Alabama, like all states, blacks live where there is the best govrnment housing. Such as Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, and Mobile.The reason there are more Hispanics in Northern, Al is because of the poultry farming. I am 47 years old. I have seen the population change in my life. A lot of farming in North Alabama that Hispanic people are very comfortable with and knowledgable. It's hard to find reliable white workers in those areas. The young white and black population seems to act too entitled to do hard work.

Jasper / Cullman are the worst in the state for racial issues. The big cities not so much. I went to integrated schools in a small east Alabama town. Never any issues. Never heard of any townwise either, although i did see once during my HS years, a kkk parade of about 50. That was a first. I feel like my town had good race relations. Blacks kids excelled at basketball and football. They weren't left out. Haven't seen a kkk parade since then. The time i saw it it was odd, weekday after school on a main drag highway section, not like old downtown. I was driving and passed them. I thought fukkin fruitloops.

I live in Alabama and I don't know what you are talking about with race. I'm from the north and lived in Florida and people here are kind. I would just say in the big cities, I've experienced people of all colors being rude. It's awful to say Alabama can't get over its past. That's not true. People up north are 100% more racist. Our biggest problem is lack of quality education and it keeps people stuck. Racist people talk about race and people who aren't racist, race doesn't bother them. So maybe you see, who you are. If it's important to you, you will find racism. Across Alabama you will find people for Auburn and Alabama, it's just a personal choice...stop reading so much into it!

I have lived in Cullman for 5 years and I belong to a Cullman Facebook group that has talked about the infamous Sundown sign that some who have lived there for 40, 50 years or more claimed was there but nobody has even as much as a picture to prove it. Even if those things are true, I think it would be hard to prove that it is that way today. If it were so much like that then there wouldnt be 11 families and counting and are mostly minority, including my own wife have never complained about said racism. Not saying it dont exist, but saying which places are mostly that way tends to be subjective with little or no proof to back up those claims. You know not a damn thing about me and you call me hypocrite? Oh, ok. Im done talking with such a toxic person such as you that spreads lies and looks at everything from the lens of race. I guess you wouldn't like if someone bashed your town or birthplace in the manner you do; do unto others as you would have done unto yourself.
