The greatest strength of Bumrah, other than his pinpoint accuracy and variations, is that he can look at any pitch in any part of the world under any conditions and he quickly deduces the length that will give batsmen problems. And more often than not, he’s bang on the money from the first ball itself. No looseners or warm up deliveries. He’s in the strike bowler mindset from ball one.

Bumrah with his strenuous action need to check how far he goes. But, currently Bumrah is right there with Marshal. Marshal adopted top to subcontinent and was equally good in India Pak as he was in Aus England or WI. Regardless of these comparisons - Bumrah is in a good company with names of Marshal Garner Ambrose McGrath Truman BARNES on the screen…! 🙂 🙂 Bumrah is a genius and I would have loved him same even if he was from any other country like Akram or Donald or Ambrose or McGrath or Steyn.. but yes he being Indian, just like Kapil Dev - make me prouder! As a few others have mentioned, Bumrah is pretty much unique since he does all this across 3 formats. Even a guy like Steyn didn't have the same aura in white ball cricket, neither does Rabada or Cummins (who are closest to Bumrah in tests.) No spinner dominates either. He's the bowling version of Sachin in the 90s (who dominated tests and ODIs equally) or Kohli in his prime between 2016-18. Personally, the best he's ever bowled is in the West Indies in 2019 where he took a hat trick and was doing whatever he wanted.

Bumrah is a legend, i am even surprised he lasted this long!!! I was concerned about his action was too complicated and injury prone...may be i need some bio-mechanics classes!! Without undermining his acheivments, i think the strongest era in cricket was 1995 - 2007 .In that era teams defended their home turf very well..WI,SL, PAK were strong teams. Australia toured well and so did SA .This is just my feeling, but i felt there was healthy balance between bat and ball the first innings of both teams generally were in the solid 350+ scores with pitches deteriorating as the match wore on. Now with WTC and points it appears that only bowling tracks are being prepared (everywhere with may be England being the exception). No doubt in any era he would have been a top guy, but i think his averages are may be inflated by the era, i would also look at Khagiso Rabada, Ishanth Sharma and James Anderson the latter 2 had better averages post 2018 than their career averages. Also Australia and England have been much better places to bat than India/South Africa over that last 6-7 years...
