My dad always told this story about the all-black German shepherd that they had when he was a kid. The whole family went out to a matinee for a few hours, and when they got home the dog was in the front yard, standing on a man’s chest and growling with his muzzle just inches from the man’s face. Apparently dude admitted that he had broken into the house just a few minutes after the family left, and had spent that whole time getting stared down by the dog as it growled at him.

meh I'd be more worried about an Anatolian Shepherd, more bite force, heavier, extra skin that is also thicker along with a thicker coat for more protection, more muscle mass than a German Shepherd could achieve for sure plus fewer health issues due to inbreeding by the Germans. German Shepherds are formidable when compared to a lab, but the Malinois in the last one is a LOT scarier leaner muscle, faster, relatively the same bite force, while also having the benefit of modern breeding for the military/police dog benefits so inbreeding is not as much of an issue since there is a large network of breeders working with the U.S. Government alone.

I've told this elsewhere, but seeing as how it's GSD Love Day... I grew up with German Shepherds. The whole extended family. The one we had was so large, I could almost ride her like a pony. She was the sweetest dog. She also had a way of comforting new people. She'd put her head in your lap and lean on you. But she was fiercely protective. She never slept at night. Ever. She would patrol the house, keeping an eye for trouble. One night I woke from a pretty bad nightmare. I opened my eyes to see an enormous furry face staring down at me, waiting to wash my face. She had heard me crying and come to check. She opened my bedroom door (totally closed, by the way) and stood near until I woke up. Then she hopped on the bed and curled up against me. I wrapped my arms around her and buried my face into her fur. She stayed until I calmed down and started to drift off again. But just before I passed out, I felt her gently stand up and hop off my bed. She returned to her night time patrol mission.

The only time I saw him get really scary was when my neighbor came over to offer us some of the turkey he had been butchering (farm life lol). When I was 4 years old, we had a kiddie pool in the backyard. Some neighborhood kids would show up during the summer to play with us. My German Shepherd was always vigilant and when an older kid threw me into the pool, the dog would have attacked the kid if she wasn't on a leash. Until one night a robber went into the old couple's house. Long story short, Buddy bit the robber on the shoulder near the neck, in exchange he was stabbed many times but the sad part that made us cry was no matter how many stabs he got, he never let go of the robber and still gripped him with his mouth. The robber was lying on his own blood when the police arrived but Buddy's already dead. The couple was so heartbroken. Buddy did his job and did it with love. Run free wherever you are, Buddy.

It's because of their wrinkled foreheads. I used to own one. I used to take her for walks on the sidewalk around the local lake. I let her investigate an area by the water, that had thick leaf & debris on top of the grass, & extended far out on top of the water. It all happened so quickly. She could not determine where the land stopped, & the water began, apparently, so she just trotted (Basenji's trot like horses), out into the water. I guess it all looked like land to her. She looked so distressed, & worried, & surprised, with those forehead wrinkles & her eyes, and was flailing to get back on land. I helped her of course. But she looked so funny, I couldn't help but laugh. I apologized to her of course. I'm not a complete jerk... She wasn't afraid of dogs twice her size, & was very friendly to most people. I only saw her hackles rise, & her growl at one person. A man who approached at the lake. I was surprised, because she was always so friendly, but grateful for her alert, because who knows what she might have sensed about him. It immediately told me I should be alert as well. Nothing happened. He made conversation about my dog, & asked to pet her, & when it became obvious she didn't trust him, he went on his way. I loved that girl. ❤️🔥

We had the biggest baby of a black lab growing up, 110 lb and he let the smaller dogs and the cats boss him around while sulking that he never got to be in charge. We always joked he would react like the lab in this video. Then one day, we found him at the window, fur raised so he looked twice his size, hackles up, teeth bared, just spitting, not even barking, just waiting to attack the burglar outside. It genuinely took us all aback, until he realized the burglar was just my brother looking for the house key and happily went back to normal and asked for a treat

My last lab was a big baby lovebug. We always joked she would carry the burglars flashlight…Until one night I got home real late & my husband was in bed. When she heard me going up the stairs in the dark (she didn’t know it was me), she did the scariest snarl/growl until she saw the top of my head clear the steps, then she went into happy mode. It was then we knew she would defend us if need be and wasn’t just a big mush ball with anyone coming into our home.

My family had a German Shepherd when I was very young. Super friendly with family but could be extremely territorial with people he didn't know. One year, we had a spat of robberies in the neighborhood and the police stopped by to warn us cause they thought we were a likely target. As the police were being let inside the house to discuss the matter further, our GS lets out a few barks. The police's response upon seeing/hearing him? "Oh, nevermind, you'll be fine."

My GS/lab mix loves everyone, except for three people: a drunken guy on a bike that wouldn’t stop following me one night on a walk, a salesman that came around selling home security systems two weeks before a rash of robberies, and one of my neighbours across the street. Maybe my neighbour is okay, but I’m going to trust my dog’s opinion and keep my distance from that neighbour! She got more protective both times I had a baby. No one goes near her boys until she’s investigated them and she will sit beside my sons the entire time they are held by someone other than mum and dad. If she thinks something is wrong, she comes to nudge me and groan/snort at me before going back to her boy.

For a long time my mum was a childminder, the kids would literally hang off our dogs and the dogs would absolutely baby them and cuddle up to them, they did the same with our cats. I couldn’t even imagine being scared of them until an argument broke out with a neighbour that ended with him swinging a metal bar at me. The fucking sound that my dog made was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever heard, one aggressive move aimed at me and suddenly those loveable teddy bears became these batshit mental creatures that I wouldn’t trust to keep a tiger safe. Hilarious as usual. Our great dane is a huge baby until someone she doesn't know comes into or up to the house. She's such a huge doofus and such a good dog with people. She knows if we bring someone in to meet her that it's fine, even though she has to see them for a little while just to be 100% sure. But if someone just walks in she is not happy at all. My mom had a GS/Doberman mix. House got broke into one night while I was visiting. That dog backed me and my daughter into my mom's room and SNARLED like no tomorrow... pure doberman snarl. And then she launched herself at the guy and had him on his back with her teeth snapping at his throat before we even had time to register that she had moved. My mom casually wandered out there and called the cops while the dog was sitting on this guy's chest giving him the "Oh, no. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with ME." glare-snarl. I popped my head out there, calmly informed him that if he moved so much as to cough, those teeth would be IN his throat. And then I went to meet the cops outside. I told them where the jerk was, and then warned them... we have a dog. Dog is half Doberman and half German Shepherd. Guy's got wet pants already, but don't get near him until my mom's called her off. LOL. Those two cops got one look at her, waited until my mom had her off the guy and in hand and then told us that was one nasty combination for someone to run into in her territory. My mom just smiled and said... yep. I know. That's why I have her. I normally live alone. Cops laughed, cuffed the guy and told her 'good choice' on their way out the door. LOL. Kira was the most loving, gentle pupper with her family, but the minute you threatened or tried to hurt her family, she let that snarl out and she had the teeth to back it up. 😂

The two who know dogs acknowledged her, when she was a puppy, the moment she stopped jumping on them, so she learned that with them, being calm got her the attention she wanted, the other sister: ignored her entirely, the dog would give up and go away to do her own thing, then she'd say "they should only approach when invited, that's what I'm teaching her," yeah....the moment she acknowledged the dog, she was jumping all over the place again, because my sister thought you could skip step one (acknowledge the dog the moment they calm down to teach them that calm = attention) and step two (leave slightly longer intervals between the dog sitting and the attention to teach them that they get attention at OUR discretion, but only while calm.) your dog is trying desperately to get your friend's attention, the moment he actually gets it, he'll probably calm right down.

I have a half German shepherd half golden retriever. Fantastic with people, is very patient with anyone. Babies? Persistent puppies or males? Fantastic. It took a week of a dog we were pet sitting humping her(or trying to, he was a really tiny dog and ours is, safe to say, not his size) for her to turn around and snap at him. She’s never bit, barked, or snarled at anyone unless you were rough housing with her or playing with her toys. Very good dog. Terrified of thunder and water bottles. Dunno why. We adopted her as a new puppy. Anyway, a very big sweetheart, but she’s attempted numerous times to attack bucks out back(she never made it close enough as they always ran). Chased a couple of bobcats into a pine tree once. She got up on her back legs and barked up the tree, and the more she did, the higher they want. Had to coax her away with a treat that time, so even if robbers might be an issue(she has barked at us if she thinks we’re hurting each other-tickling, jumpscares, ect), might not, at least I know if there’s an animal making a grab for dinner, it’ll turn into “call an ambulance, call an ambulance! But not for me”

I had a shepherd, she didn't look like one, didn't get the black colouring off her mum,was all tan. Vet reckoned she had a retriever grandparent. I was on a walk with her, in a local wooded area, she was off lead having a wander in the bushes. A man approached me with a lead, lost his dog. Zara appeared out of nowhere and placed herself between me and him. My other shepherd was 100% shepherd, great on a walk, everyone kept their distance. Amazing the amount of grown men that are scared of shepherds.

I don't think he lost his dog at all, and Zara knew it.

"Why do I hear boss music?" OMG so perfect for a GSD. I grew up with a white GSD named Champagne. She was such a wonderful dog and I miss her to this day.

As someone who has a border collie and a German shepherd, I cracked up at the accuracy of this. Love it! ❤️

RIP any robber who is unfortunate enough to stumble across your home. They'll either be herded into a jail cell or nuked. 😆

Just curious why people have to let the whole world know their personal business? Especially when it’s depressing. People start to comment the same or agree. This world is crazy enough to deal with but just keep going. Sorry that you don’t laugh or not happy. I truly mean that. I hope you find happiness again. The world is crazy but I’m definitely not going to let it stop me for being happy. That’s winning to enjoying life. I have issues too but I’m not going to share it for the world, and so does a lot of people do too. Just enjoy the video, let him know it made you giggle. I laughed out loud! 🤣, He’s so funny! 😉💖

My friend had a GS trained as a guard dog...and he was all too keen to be one. They were avid hunters and had a trophy room for all their kills. Their GS even had a ten point, eight point, and four point buck on the wall. If you were coming over, you had to announce it so that they could recall the GS back into the garage if he was outside. I was over so much that he finally got socialized, and was the nicest guy...built on 95 pounds of solid muscle teeth and claws.
