This is by far the best tour guide i have seen representing South Africa. Not these foreigners they hire in Cape Town who have no idea about our history and lie to tourists. The Department of Tourism is being disingenious if they don't hire her. I'm still perplexed at the lady who was the tour guide for Mansa Mayne.

I can certify that this is a true story of our history. Mam Snowy needs much recognition. I did not even know about her before your channel. Mam Snowy is well informed, well researched and very educated. The way she narrates the past and the present and merging them is beautiful. She also explains the dynamics at play very well for the international audience by translating South African terms into American English which is more popular.

Great conversation...My Dad coloured from Cpt and my mom Zulu from KZN..Ive never understood the division between coloured and black in SA. I find it pointless for is to be caught it arguments about who black and who's not when we all been oppressed together. I hope we overcome this mindset and open our eyes to the bigger picture and move towards one common goal as brothers and sisters.

I get what our sister is saying. The socio-economic system of apartheid was establish to keep all other groups apart and on a subservient level to Whites/Europeans....Asians and Coloureds were placed on a higher level academically, socially and economically than those classified as majority Black or Bantu. This would ensure that Whites were always at the top, and most Blacks stayed at the bottom of this socio- economical system of setting up Black Africans for self destruction and affording those that were Asian or Colored better chance at survival and progress if they stayed with and did not challenge the system. The whole system was build on slowly depopulating the Black Majority. Probably they were hoping that the Black population of South Africa would have significant subsided by 2050 or 2095 and Asians and Coloured would have become a majority over the Blacks leaving Whites feeling less fearful of karma

This is one of the dark chapter of our history, racial division, dividing communities. Colored communities must come out of this shell and not live in the past, this thing of calling yourself a 'colored' you are basically reinforcing the racial division. My wife father is white, and she loathes to be called a 'colored' and she is really light skinned. The unfortunate thing is that some of the so called 'coloreds' are still dwelling on this principle that the lighter skinned you are, you will be favored in every position of power, and hence they will not marry Africans, and they will rather remain in abject poverty than to have an intimate relationship with an a Black African. Its a pandemic. They still in this racial hierarchy theory, a belief that they are racially superior to Black Africans, its deeply embedded within their minds, its a psychological remnants of apartheid. They are still not free.

Coloured is a culture. Popular believe is that we do not have any, but we do. Some prefer to be referred to as brown, mix and even African Creole. Growing up as a child we lived and mixed with almost all the different races except whites. Not all of us see our skin colour as being superior.
@mikescythian5729
@mikescythian5729 2 жыл бұрын
The person who wrote this message is himself confused. He has no idea of what being coloured is. We don't and have never shared the same culture or languages of black South Africans and like everywhere on planet Earth, people prefer to live and stay amongst their own people with whom they can identify with. The coloured identify has been in existence in the Cape long before SA came into existence in 1910 with the Union of SA. And we were the first and most oppressed group of people in SA due to slavery that was in existence for over 100 years. Many black Africans in SA need to educate themselves about the true history of this country and its people before sending misleading information about a culture they know nothing of.
@lindywinthrop8260
@lindywinthrop8260 2 жыл бұрын
So how did Coloreds come into existence? They are Black and other? Then how did you not share language or culture if you came from Black South Africans?You are a part of them or did I get it wrong?.
