Frank Mir changed my life. 2 hours with him at a seminar in 2019, he gave me motivation no one else had. On a positive path in life and he's an excellent role model. Long live WAR MIR!

@crazypato3752 I was very aimless at the time. 18 years old, depressed, overweight, and no idea what i wanted to do with my life. Weak mentally as much physically and Frank could see it in me. Read me like a book better than any therapist I saw. I asked him various things about fighting but also life accomplishments and battles. He drilled it into my head to start training martial arts, whether it be jiu jitsu or anything else to develop my discipline but also accept failures. He also stressed that i finish my college degree and that him not going to college was a big regret of his. That conversation created an epic chain reaction over the following 3 years. I got into BJJ and it required me to improve everything in my life to accel at it. My discipline, personality, my physical fitness, etc. I lost 60 lbs and completely rebuilt my character from ground zero. It made me much more proud of the person I was becoming. I ended up completing a bachelor's. Moved on and got a master's. Now, I'm doing well in my life at 23. Got a good lady in my corner and am trying to put together concepts of my own business. My physical fitness is awesome as I lift and do cardio daily, and my mental health is the greatest it ever has been. I need to get back to BJJ soon. From 2019 when I met Frank until 2022, trained it like an absolute animal every day 2 hours plus. Was nearly a purple belt but stress injuries caught up to me that forced me to take a break then I never really went back. Gotta get back on the mat soon 💪

One of the most articulate fighters out there. I have to admit, before I had ever seen him speak I thought he would be a meathead, being a heavyweight fighter with the tattoos and the haircut, but then I started watching interviews of him and found out he’s incredibly well spoken and intelligent. Always enjoy his interviews.

He was excellent on commentary as well but he said something on a radio show once that was less than palatable and he kind of has been blackballed from commentating ever since. This was more than 10 years ago.

Frank Mir is a true strategist. You can just tell by the way he mentioned how his daughter was going to pursue wrestling instead of jumping right into fighting because the _window of competition_ was smaller there and something you have to do now or never (could return to fighting after). But the *BIGGEST* thing he highlighted was that it was not a step _backwards_ but actually a step forward because the big take away is that she will have a strong *WRESTLING* foundation. He emphasized it even more by saying if she did something like surfing that there wasn’t much that translates over to MMA. I like this take because I do this with a LOT of things. If I’m going to pursue something I intentionally *LOOK* for carry over skills. And I think that is something that comes to MIXED martial arts fighters (I am not one). Because you’re constantly mixing up your skill sets.

i just looked up rampage record damn the time has gone by so fast. rampage fought in 2001 to 2019 for 18 years, thats incredible for someone to fight at the highest level for almost 20 years straight, name another mma fighter who fought at the top for over 20 years? i remember being in my living room in high school watching rampage on a old square black box type tv, we didnt even have flat screens tv's yet or flat screen computer monitors or smart phones. I think i still had dial up internet back in like 2007. i think it was spike tv channel the man channel.

8:22 that is so true. That is how I felt about grappling until I grappled with someone who had been learning it. Now I have an appreciation for it and it helped to appreciate MMA for what it is; it truly covers all aspects of hand to hand combat and is truly a fight. The grappling aspect is just as important as the striking aspect.

I also remember there was a 19 year old kind of blonde hair kid who was the youngest to fight mma back then in ufc and i cant for the life of me remember who he was or what happened to him if he became great or disappeared. i wish the time would slow down sigh

20:38 That story is slightly incorrect. What happened for UFC 151 was that Jon Jones was supposed to fight Dan Henderson. There were rumblings that Hendo was going to pull out. Eventually Hendo did pull out a few days before the fight and Chael offered to step up and replace him. Chael Sonnen and Dan Henderson were training partners and trained together at the same gym. Greg Jackson told Jon Jones that it's a possibility that Chael Sonnen has been preparing to face Jon Jones all along, knowing Henderson was going to pull out but that Jon didn't have the adequate time to prepare specifically for Chael, therefore UFC 151 ended up being cancelled. Dana White called Greg Jackson a sports killer, etc... it was a big deal at the time.
@ashisforreal6 сағат бұрын
Yeah Jon was an idiot for listening that clown Greg. Chael was literally the easiest match up for him. He would beat him with no training camp IMO.
