Hey Jay, I am a 57 year old guitarist out of Fort Worth, but absolutely love all things drums yet the closest I will ever come to making noise regarding drums is through my cherished EZ Drummer. I have been a Toontrack fanboy for years and own tons of their stuff. I am also a loyal Tesseract fan since day one. I just finished the entire video and was entertained from start to end. Your relaxed down to earth attitude is fantastic. Watching your presentation is like hanging out with a good friend who also shares a joyful passion for music and his instrument. Yeeaaaahhhhheeee! That's it man! That's what happened to me at Xmas 2019. Behind the cheap Millenium MPS 850 and EZDrummer2 and I was completely flashed. Dude, I spent hours of my life behind a stinky kit. I mean... tom and cymbal wise it was ok. But snare sounded bad and kick I didn't hear. Haha. And as Jay said...the room mics are the magic kind of thing. Man. So awesome. But you can boost that experience with a buttkicker. I grabbed a cheap tactile transducer, screwed it under my wooden drum chair plate and hooked it up to an old subwoofer amp. Woooow, like on huge stage with LARGE monitors. Dude, no hobby musician or semi pro will ever get that sound out of his kit with a medium engineer, medium mics ....you know what I'm saying. I use those Audiofront eDRUMin10 modules. Awesome devices. 👌 If you don't need module sounds... perfect.

Thank you so much for doing this video Jay! I have had Superior Drummer 3 for a while and I just added a TD-50KV2 to the arsenal and I look forward to utilizing these together. I also have just acquired a Mac Mini M2 Pro with the M2 Chip and hoping I can get these to work since I am using a Roland Octa-Capture Audio Interface and Roland is saying that the interface isn't compatible with a Mac Mini M2. I have heard that the TD-50 X module can be used a its own interface which would be really cool if that works.

Just pointing out what a great rundown of the individual presets and elements this is - or a general tutorial for that matter. Should get people started in no time, SD3 is way up there as far as amazing vsts are concerned. Doesn't hurt that you just keep banging out sweet grooves, that's for sure.

Greetings..for users that have the TD-50X and the VAD Roland Drum series, will they sacrifice any functionality when using Superior Drummer 3? I've seen other posts where the digital Hi-Hat (14Ds-Digital Trigger) does not have its full functionality and also the bow of crash cymbals when tapping with a stick only offering a crash edge sound. Might you elaborate as SD3 does not have a trial version prior to purchase. Thanks much for the uploads and videos.

This video is AWESOME. I have a TD-50X and I have SD 3.0 - this makes me want to get back into playing it!! I admittedly skipped around to little bits of the video; did you go over what your PC/laptop specs are to comfortably run SD 3.0 in the manner you presented? Namely the CPU and RAM. Cheers!

Awesome stream Jay. I am really into using plugins and libraries so really enjoyed this stream. I mainly use EZ Drummer, GGD and Mix Wave. Next leap is SD3 after seeing this. Wanted to know how you have got you the lights into your toms. Looks awesome. Would love to do the same on my Roland Kit.

They're the Elagto LEDs strips. They're pretty good as they don''t flicker BUT... they currently also don't do any kind of transitions. It's just block colours.

Is there any reason why you would use midi cables instead of the USB? I have the TD-27, and just got Superior (prior to that I had Steven Slate drums for a number of years). to me it just allows you to record beyond what even Superior Drummer allows because you could technically record the audio from the Roland in individual channels, and record SD3 also in individual channels at the same time and mix and blend to taste.

Thank you for the in-depth video on SD3! I tried the hi hat calibration protocol on my Roland TD-6 but was not successful; the trigger works, and I'm getting a sound from SD3 when I hit the trigger, but the fields in the "Hi Hat Calibration" do not register when I open and close the hats. May I ask for your advice in troubleshooting this issue... maybe the TD-6 isn't that advanced as the TD-50... I'm not sure. Thx :)

Hmm. Have you got the correct model of hi-hat selected in the Roland module? Check the ‘openness transitions’ in the MIDI in/E-drum settings in SD3 perhaps? I’ve not encountered this issue myself so I’m unfortunately guessing here… it’d be a case of troubleshooting.

I only wish the mic didn't bleed into the drums sound :( I hear a mix between the Toontrack Sound and the plastic of the Edrum Kit. Would have been perfect to actually hear toontrack sounds only. Great video nontheless.

Hi I’m new to SD3. I have Roland TD50 KV2 kit with a TD-50X module, running SD3 of a M1 MacBook Pro via the TD-50X USB port. No matter what I do I can’t seem to get that lag down to what I consider acceptable. It sounds great but the lag just totally kills the joy of playing. I fear I dropped $400 on something I’ll never enjoy using. Any advice. Thanks in advance!

HELLO FROM ITALY. I HAVE A PROBLEM. I HAVE A ROLAND TD27 AND I SET IT WITH SD 3. I HAVE 3 TOMS AND A FLOOR TOM. WHEN I CHOOSE A KIT...EXAMPLE DUALITY 1 I SET IT AND EVERYTHING OK, THEN I CHOOSE ANOTHER KIT, EXAMPLE BIG STAGE, BUT THE TOM...ESPECIALLY THE THIRD 12" IS NO LONGER WITH THE SAME MIDI NUMBER AND IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT ALSO HITTING LEARN. HOW DO I GO TO SET THIS? IS THERE ALSO A WAY TO SAVE SET PRESETS? WHERE? THANKS.
